It took about eight long hours for us to cover the distance to the Army Base north west of Limansk. And I was surprised to find that it was still there and that it matched the description that I had been given. From the outside the place didn't look like much. The was the ubiquitous wire mesh fence that surrounded the place and a single concrete block house in the center. A minor, slightly overgrown road led off to the south. Some large bushes were scattered around and inside the compound and a small gatehouse sat by the fence, and a rusted jeep sat next to the gatehouse.

We decided that we should wait until the next day and set-up a small camp, lit a fire and took watches during the dark hours just make sure that we weren't attacked or stalked by mutants, or other Stalkers.

I spent half the night wondering why I was here. Why I had come back. I'd been thinking about it all day and was no closer to coming up with an answer. I guess that I had been feeling unhappy back in the Big Land, and being so close to the Zone had been too tempting. Yet, I still had this feeling that I had been called. The Zone, or something in the Zone had called me. But what? There were many things in the Zone that could alter your thoughts, and a Controller could make you do anything it wanted you to. Yet they all had a limited distance, even the Brain Scorchers couldn't call out beyond their limited range. There were rumours of the Monolith calling whole factions into the center of the Zone to do the bidding of whatever it was that created the Zone. Who or what that was a mystery to me.

The morning was cold and damp. Mist covered the ground and thick clouds boiled overhead. It didn't look like a nice day, but then there were very few nice days in the Zone.

'I thought you said that this place was covered in anomalies?' Dmitriy asked.

'Yeah I don't see anything.' Alex added.

'In which case we have to be very, very careful.' I told them both. 'No more point work for you two. I'm gonna lead and you two are going to follow me and step where I step. No deviations. Understood?' They both nodded in agreement. 'I mean it. You two have been lucky so far but that luck wont hold out for ever. I've been doing this longer and I know what I'm doing. Do what I'm telling you or you will die.'

On hold for Now

I'm not sure when I will be returning to this story - I an heavily involved in my new novel that I actually think is a good candidate for publication - if anyone wants to help with it drop me a pm - I just need someone or two to read it and tell me if I'm on the wrong track.

More will follow eventually - it just may be some months away

I forgot to point out that the new novel is not a stalker novel its a purely sci-fi novel, sort of.

Overall it's a cool story, except some points,... if you're still interested. But I guess it's not final and full version. At least it looks like unfinished.
