He's back

Chapter 9

“Alright Alexi we are coming up to the Garbage now, so keep your ears sharp and your eyes sharper” Package called. Alexi was starting to tire and fall behind Package, who showed no signs of slowing down all he could manage was a quick “righto”. The rain was starting to ease but nightfall was slowly taking its place and this worried Alexi. He feared that he would lose sight of Package in the darkness and wander into a Bandit camp or worse still, a nest full of mutants like the one he had killed in the Dark Valley barely two days ago which now seemed like an eternity. Try as he may though Alexi could not summon the strength to match the pace of Package, just as he was about to throw in the towel he saw the man in front of him stop and turn towards him. Alexi knew that behind that gas mask were eyes with sympathy in them staring back at him. “Alexi...” Package stammered, although after taking a breath he continued. “It’s wrong to push you like this, not only are you in a foreign place full of unknown and frightening things, but you are not exactly in the physical condition typical of someone that has lived in the zone for awhile and I have been pushing you as if you are. On top of this the weather has been harsh, for months I haven’t seen a storm like this and...and” He took a sideways glance before facing Alexi again “and I guess what I am trying to say is I’m sorry and have decided to rest for the night and We will push on to Yantar tomorrow. However I need you to be able to walk roughly one more K, do you think you can do that?” Alexi regarded the man in front of him and suddenly it dawned on him, as hard as it was for Package to stop for the night it was harder still for him to apologise. Alexi looked up with a slight smile and managed a weary nod.

The duo arrived at a small shelter that Alexi instantly recognised as a Bus Stop. Package unrolled a sleeping bag onto the ground and produced two small unmarked tins and proceeded to hand one to Alexi who eyed it warily “Come now lad it’s food do you really think I’d be eating it as well if it was anything but?” he said jestingly. At this Alexi sat down and took it then began to eat it slowly, while doing so Package noticed he was shaking from sitting around. “We’re going to have to find you some better equipment if you’re going to make it to Yantar it seems” Package said out loud, “I have an old stash not too far from here that should contain an old Mossberg 500 shotgun and a couple of shells. I’ll then pop over to the old hangar where Seriy and his mob are trying to establish a type of stalker base and see if they have among other things an old Leather jacket lying around; you can pay me back later.” Alexi tried to find a hint of sarcasm either Package hid it very well or there was none. “Until then I’d suggest you warm yourself however you can and keep your eyes and ears open, if I come back here and you’re asleep I won’t be extending this kind of hospitality again, understand?” Alexi looked him in the eye and nodded, with that Package took off into the night.

Alexi watched Package go then backed into the corner of the bus stop. The wind was starting to pick up and this caused Alexi’s shakes to become more violent. He was soaked to the bone and had nothing to shield himself from the wind, he contemplated using Package’s sleeping bag as a wind break but saw that it was much too thin to offer any real protection so rather then get it wet he left it alone. He stared off into the pitch black night and listened intently for anything that might be moving around out there but all he could hear was the chirping of the crickets coupled with his raspy breath. He dared not close his eyes for more than a second because he knew in doing so that he would more than likely drift off to sleep. To take his mind off sleep he picked up his Makarov and inspected it closely, there was rust on the grip and the slide. The grip itself looked as though it had been used as a hammer at some stage as it had quite a few dents and chips in it. He scoffed to himself “hell even I know that is bad for a pistol, these Bandits sure do lack brains if they are doing that.” Just as he was starting to get lost in his thoughts he heard the sloshing of wet grass mixed with mud outside, his heart started to race and even though he was freezing, sweat began to pour down his back. He heard two maybe three sets of footsteps he couldn’t be sure due to the millions of thoughts flying through his head. Are they friendly? Are they even human? What if it’s another of those Pseudo things? Just then Alexi was gripped with fear he couldn’t do anything his mind raced back to his first night which had almost been his last as he remembered the jaws that could have ripped his throat out, he let out a yell.

“What the hell was that?” Alexi heard a voice call out, immediately followed by a torch beam piercing the night. “You two stay here while I check it out and pass me that shotgun.” Alexi held his breath, he prayed it wasn’t bandits, he knew there was only one thing to do, so he gripped his pistol and aimed out of the shelter. Ever so slowly the light caked more of the shelter. Alexi could hear his heart thumping and felt like who ever this was did as well. In the next second he was blinded and due to sheer fear he squeezed the trigger. His shot went very far wide of the mark, because in the next instant the full weight of a man was bearing down on him. He tried to wriggle out but his attempts were in vain, this man had him pinned, he started to panic which brought on a headache he hadn’t had in a while the pain was multiplied due to fact the torch was still shining directly in his face, he closed his eyes but it did nothing to ease the pain. He tried to let out a yell in the mere hope that Package was nearby and would hear him but he could barely manage a squeak. The man on top of him was squeezing the air out of his lungs. Suddenly two men burst into the shelter “what have we got here boss?” one of them asked. The man pinning Alexi down replied a little a short of breath “A fighter for one, he doesn’t know he’s been beat. Apart from that I have no idea; I’ve never seen him before. He’s probably one of Wolf’s Rookies who got too big for his shoes.” Alexi felt the whole world disconnect from him for a few seconds, then felt it come rushing right back as he was slammed against the shelters wall. “Alright you little shit you’re going to tell me why you shot at me.” Alexi assumed this was the leader and was about to answer when he was cut off. “If you don’t give me a satisfactory answer, my associates and I...well” he let out a slight laugh that chilled Alexi to the bone more so than the cold “you’ll see.”

Alexi pleaded with them that it was all a big mistake that he was shocked by the light blinding him and didn’t even realise he squeezed the trigger. The man pinning him against the wall, who Alexi was positive was the leader looked through him rather than at him then gave a quick nod to one of the men and right at that moment a fist connected with his face. “You expect me to believe that?” the leader spat, Alexi gave a weak nod the pain was stinging his face not that he could feel it anymore. The leader scoffed and gave another nod and this time a kick connected with the back of his knee. “This is the zone, mistakes don’t happen here, they get you killed, so I guess you’re learning that lesson right here.” This time a knee connected with his gut and he slumped to the ground, but a hand gripped his throat and slammed his head against the wall. “You don’t lie down until I say you can.” The amount of venom in the words made Alexi Whimper unintentionally the man just smiled evilly and slammed his fist into Alexi’s nose. Alexi at that moment knew he was going to die and the group saw this in his posture so they started laying the blows on him, he didn’t even offer any resistance. Then suddenly a loud bang resounded and the feeling of blood started to ooze all over him, he was positive they had shot him and he would finally be released from this torment. The next sound startled him one of his assailants was screaming in pain and clutching his stomach with a red substance running down his hands and Alexi knew that it was this man’s blood that had been oozing all over him.

“Just like you Fox, beating up not only a man in the early stages of hypothermia but who is also alone and having two of your thugs help you.” Alexi immediately recognised Package’s voice. Then the man who packaged had referred to as Fox spoke up. “Big mistake old man, you’ve signed your own death warrant by shooting one of my men.” Fox pointed at the man who was writhing in agony on the ground but as the seconds dragged on he was beginning to move less and less.
“Have I Fox? I take it you’re the one who issued it and wishes to collect?” with this Package pumped the shotgun. “Well come on then!” Package called defiantly.

“You’ll see old man mess with the best you die like the rest.”
“Don’t you dare put yourself in the same league as Strelok and his group they were the best to traverse the zone, you and your thugs just taint it, you’re barely better than bandits.
Fox flinched at this and turned aside from Package and walked off shouting to the man that was trying to help his fallen comrade “Leave him and let’s go” he dropped him straight away and followed at the heels of his leader.

Package rushed over to Alexi and knelt down beside “Alexi are you alright?” he asked with worry in his voice
Alexi looked up at package and croaked “is that the same fox that....” but before he could finish he slipped into unconsciousness.

Chapter 10

Three days passed before Alexi regained consciousness and during those three days Package had barely left his side. He awoke with a groan and was assaulted by blinding daylight so he quickly raised his hand to shield his eyes which took more effort than it should have. His arm was a dead weight... nearly, while he could still use it, it seemed to be more trouble than it was worth so he dropped it back by his side and had a quick glance for Package but it seemed the man was nowhere to be found “Probably abandoned me” Alexi grumbled. No emotions filled him at this prospect all he could feel was the extreme physical pain from his injuries, it hurt him even to breathe. Soon the pain was too much and he blacked out again.

Alexi awoke to a pitch black night sky. Not even the moon penetrated the darkness, everywhere he looked all he could see were miles of blackness until he spotted a faint orange glow. Without any regard for anything he set off in that direction as fast as he could. As he neared the glow he halted instantly, sitting around the fire were a bunch of rat dogs and Pseudo-dogs which were being watched over by his assailants from the night before. He tried to turn and run but he was to slow, the rat dogs gave chase and pinned him down. They were followed by his assailants who started shouting at him “Why did you shoot at me?” repeatedly , all he could reply was “it was a mistake” then just like that the shouting stopped and the leader, Fox gave a flick of his wrist and the Pseudo-dogs descended on him ravenously.

He awoke with a gasp and started to thrash around on the ground which sent jolting spasms of pain throughout his body all the while he was shouting “get them off.” He felt the hands of someone fighting to hold him still, at this he started kicking out with his legs he didn’t care how much pain he was going through, all he knew was this time he wasn’t going down easily. He could sense he was going to pass out again from the pain and right before he did he heard a faint call of “lad, lad! Calm down.”

A few hours later Alexi awoke to a small fire burning, it’s orange glow illuminating the tin walls of the bus shelter. He noticed he was draped in a sleeping bag but couldn’t piece together who had done it. When he passed out before, he swore that it hadn’t been there or had it? He thought to himself. His mind was a mess he couldn’t recall anything from the last couple of days, have I moved at all? Is this still the same bus shelter? When had that fire been lit? So many questions filled his head but he could barely focus on one before another took its place all of a sudden a voice snapped him out of his trance.

“So you’re awake and this time you aren’t kicking out at me, this is a good sign” the man said calmly.

“Who are you and what do you want with me.” Alexi demanded, with that a fresh feeling of pain resounded through his body.

“Want with you?” the man sounded stunned “I don’t want anything, well I guess I want my sleeping bag back but you...”

Alexi cut him off “Who the hell are you?”

“That quick to forget are we lad? It’s me Package, the one who’s been keeping you from turning into a mutant snack for the last three days.”

A wave of relief washed over Alexi “I thought you’d moved on to Yantar? Why did you stay?”

“Simple really, I’m a man of my word and I said I’d take you to Yantar, which doesn’t seem like we’ll be doing anytime soon.” Package let out a sigh but continued “You’ve been beaten pretty badly, three of your teeth are missing, your lip was busted open and is going to need to be looked at, your left eye is swollen and your left cheek bone is broken. I’d take you to the hangar to see if they could do anything for you but..”

“But it’s too risky because of what I did to Fowl?” Alexi croaked.

“What, that? No that has passed lad don’t ask me why I’m not privy to the details. The reason I haven’t moved you is because I don’t want to cause further damage to you. I’ve done the best I can now all we can do is let time run its course. Thankfully your legs aren’t in to bad a shape so it shouldn’t be too long before we can get you moving and...”

Alexi had stopped listening he was regarding the man who was in essence a complete stranger but was putting his neck on the line for him. He payed no heed to what package was saying and butted in “Package why are you in the Zone?”

Package got his tongue in a muddle for a few seconds then looked Alexi in the eye “Lad that is a long story, a very long story and I personally don’t think it would entertain you all that much.”

Alexi attempted to sit up but feared the pain that was becoming more intense would cause him to pass out, so he settled for lying down “try me” he breathed, exhaling pain as well as air.

“So you really want to know?” Alexi gave a slight nod, “Alright then let me start from the beginning and know this story won’t be able to be finished in one night.” He took a deep breath and began.

“Lad I’ve been involved with the zone since the days it was first discovered, back in those days it was a desolate place of despair...”

“So you were one of the first stalkers here?” Alexi chimed in with a sort of childish tone in his voice. A quick glance from Package made him realise that he probably shouldn’t have done that.

“Remember Alexi this is my story now where was I?” he stared into the fire for a few seconds the orange glow reflecting off the whites of his eyes, giving him a certain aura “That’s right. The zone that you see before you is ‘tame’ if you could really use that word, compared to the first days. It was Ten times more dangerous, twenty times more abandoned. There were mountains of artefacts in places which are now considered rookie areas like the Cordon. The zone used to be for the best of the best, ex Special Forces, experienced fortune hunters and the like but even then that wasn’t good enough to survive here back in those days. The zone was like nothing we had experienced before, nothing could prepare you. Now days it seems any Tom, Dick and Harry believe that if people have survived here they can probably just waltz right in here. But it still ends the same as it did in those days, a lot of them die. However that’s a story for another time.” He took a swig from his metal canteen then continued “It was my job to keep these daredevils out.”

“So you were...”

“Don’t cut me off again” he chided “and Yes lad I was in the army. A Sergeant in fact and the way they dealt with stalkers back then was a little kinder, though not by much. For example if a stalker was coming towards the outpost, we’d take them into custody rather than fill them full of holes, we’d treat any injured stalkers we found out on patrol and take them into custody, pretty much it was less violent we’d still shoot at them but they were more warning shots than shots to kill. Being a soldier I didn’t understand why people weren’t allowed to enter the zone and instantly became criminals if they did. All I knew was to follow orders. But every day I would contemplate just going AWOL and seeing what all these men were willing to risk their lives over. I’d glimpsed the artefacts back then and wondered what all the fuss was about that was until I found out how much they sold for” at this he let out a slight laugh but immediately regained his composure and continued “When a new Major came to the base was when things started going downhill. Rather than treat wounded stalkers we saw, we were not to waste our medical supplies on them, anyone caught doing so would be charged. Any stalkers approaching the outpost were subject to beatings now as a lesson and to top it off stalkers that ran were to be shot and killed. For some reason men I had known for a long time relished this new authority. I guess that saying about soldiers without a war to fight is true. But anyway, the last straw for me was when the major came out on patrol with my squad. We surrounded a few stalkers and got them to surrender. Rather than slap the cuffs on them like usual, the major walks up to them and forces them all to their knees, then turns and tosses me he his pistol with the order to put a bullet in all their heads. I can’t say I’m proud of what I did that day.”

Alexi suddenly shot up it seemed all his pain was gone “Package you didn’t...” Alexi feared the answer.

“Yes... I did”

Alexi looked sick and just laid back down without saying a word.

“I disobeyed an order for the first time in my life and swore for the first time in my life. I told the Major to get fucked and sit on the gun then pull the trigger. This enraged him, he ordered two of my men to restrain me and sit me down directly in front of the stalkers so I could witness firsthand what happens to people who break the law, military or civilian. It was sickening he looked like he was almost enjoying himself as he lodged a bullet in every one of their brains. He then turned to me and fired a round into my torso, took all my equipment bar my clothes and left me there to die.”

A long silence passed “So what happened then? You obviously survived.” Alexi asked.

“That’s another story for another time lad, right now I’d rather not dwell on the past anymore and just get some rest and so should you. I will tell you this though. Of all the evil things I’ve seen since I’ve been here, that is the most evil. Now get some rest” with that they both tried to get as comfortable as they could and get some sleep.

hmmm not to sure i'm 100% happy with this chapter.

Chapter 11

It took a week before Alexi was able to move around without experiencing severe pain. It couldn’t be helped though. His lip was starting to get really inflamed and his cheekbone was getting worse before it got better. He knew that he would need medical attention for them to start healing properly. So as Package was preparing the evening meal he told him
“Package, I think I’m good to go for the trip to Yantar, I can move around with little pain in my legs and i can kind of tune out to the pain in my face. So it’s probably best if we move out tomorrow.”

Package didn’t miss a beat he immediately told Alexi his plan for getting to Yantar. “Good, we’ll wake up at about five thirty tomorrow morning. You do some exercises to limber up for the walk which should help combat the pain you do feel, while you’re doing that I’ll cook some oats for breakfast. After we’ve eaten, it should be about six. So we’ll head over to the hangar where hopefully the trader will be open so we can get some supplies for one more night and we can get you a leather jacket and pack. From there we’ll head through the Agroprom Research institute then set up camp in the swampy area for the night so you can recuperate.”

“The Agroprom Research Institute? I thought you said we’d be going through the bar?” Alexi asked puzzled.

“We were. but during the week while over at the hangar I heard some disturbing rumours about the wild territories. Blood suckers, those creatures that attacked you and Void in the cordon, have moved into the area in sheer numbers. Nobody knows why all they know is it’s bad news. The Duty sentries are fighting night and day to stop them over running the bar. They even sent patrols in to the find the source of the suckers but they didn’t come back, the last radio message they received was three days ago, since then nothing. So it looks like Bes and his boys are going to have to wait, because after I’ve taken you to Yantar that’s where I’m heading.”

“Firstly who are these duty? And secondly what makes you think you can stop them?” Alexi asked.

“I thought I’d told you that already? Guess not. Duty are a paramilitary organisation that believe it is their duty, hence the name, to destroy the zone and everything in it or at least contain it. They aren’t the friendliest bunch but they are damn good at what they do and that’s killing mutants. For your second question, i’m not looking for the source of the suckers that would be suicide. What I’m looking for are the lost patrols, I have no idea why but I have a feeling that a few are still alive. Is that alright by you?”

Alexi was still trying to digest how looking for a patrol that is probably dead is any less suicidal than taking on an army of blood suckers he just replied with a quick “Uh huh.”

Package continued “After we’ve stayed the night at the swamp we’ll push on into Yantar and I know it’s going to be hard for you but we are going to have to make a brisk pace to the science lab it isn’t wise to spend to much time away from there when in Yantar. So any questions?”

“Just one, how long have you had this planned for?

“Since I first heard about the suckers, you didn’t seriously think i’d wait till you were all healed to make a plan did you? If there’s one thing you learn today, although I think you’re going to learn a lot more tomorrow, let it be that a prepared man in the zone is one that stays alive. Now get some rest a very tiring day is ahead of us.”

Alexi gave a quick nod then settled down for the night.

The sun was just starting to rise when Package roused Alexi from his sleep. “Get up and start stretching, you’ve got a lot of walking ahead of you today.”

“And a good morning to you to” Alexi replied with a bit of surprise.

“There’s nothing good about it. It’s going to be a scorcher today. So you’re going to have decide between Uncomfortable with a little protection from the zone, or comfortable with no protection. May I decide for you?” Before Alexi could respond Package tossed the leather jacket at him. “Put that on, it’s better to be hot and sweaty than bleeding and dead.”

Alexi knew there was truth to his remark and slipped the jacket on. “Hang on, I thought we were buying this stuff today?” he queried while adjusting the jacket so it sat comfortably.

“We were going to” Package replied in a non-chalant manner as if it didn’t matter.

“Then how come we have a jacket now, when last one night we didn’t?”
Package sighed “I don’t see why it matters how I came across the jacket or these tins of food” Package proceeded to hold up a couple of unlabeled cans.

“But...”

He sighed again “If it really matters to you. I woke up at about four thirty and decided to see if by some miraculous turn of events fortune seemed to be in our favour. Luckily it was, the trader was sorting through his wares trying to at least get some form of organisation for his customers. So I bought the stuff and came back, all very simple. Now you all stretched?”

“Uh, um, no” Alexi stammered taken aback by just how efficient Package was.

“Well hurry up, I want to be out of here soon.” Package stated annoyed. For the next five minutes Alexi stretched his limbs as best he could without pain reminding him he shouldn’t be doing it. When he was finished, Package was looking at him impatiently “Alright you done? Good lets go.” And set a pace that Alexi could keep without straining himself.

While they were walking past the hangar Alexi asked “What’s this all about Package? Why are you so tense?”

“It doesn’t really concern you lad and I’d rather keep it that way.”
Alexi looked at him with an expression that said that isn’t good enough and Package saw this immediately. “If you must know, then fine. I got word last night when you had dropped off that the lab had been attacked. I wasn’t told if there were any casualties, what did it? When did it happen? Nothing all I got was it was attacked by some stalker who was passing by and recognised me.

“How did he do that, you never take your mask off.” Alexi said jokingly but Package didn’t find the humour.

“Lad this is serious, people I have known for a very long time were at the lab, my best friends might have been mauled by beasts or overwhelmed by the zombies.”

“But if they are anything like you, that shouldn’t be a problem”

“If you believe that you really have no idea what Yantar is like then. Come on let’s keep moving.”

After that not a word was spoken, all that could be heard was the distant howls of dogs and growls of other ungodly creatures, which thankfully didn’t come seeking them out. That’s not to say it was all smooth sailing through the Garbage. On two occasions they had to bypass deadly anomalies, which Alexi was very close to dying in, if it hadn’t been for Package he would have been torn to shreds. Then there was the case of the bandits. Package spotted them early but unfortunately the bandits also spotted him. They immediately opened fire and bullets started whizzing over Alexi’s head. They were horrible shots, most of their fire was thudding into the hills behind Alexi and Package, although some were closer smacking into the trees nearby. Alexi took cover behind a rock, while Package moved to a better position. He unslung his VSS and took aim, within minutes the three bandits had gaping holes in their heads. Alexi looked in awe at Package at his skill but all he received was a gruff “come on let’s keep moving.”

They arrived at the Agroprom at around midday the sun was blazing down and you could see the heat shimmering off the road. Alexi was sweating away and pain was starting to make itself known to him. He didn’t say anything though he felt that he had annoyed package by merely existing and that it was his fault that he wasn’t there to help the lab. Lost in his thoughts he didn’t notice that Package had stopped and walked right past him. Package put a rough hand on his shoulder and pulled him back. “Looking to get yourself killed hey lad?” package whispered.

“What are you going on about?” Alexi whispered back without even realising. Just then he heard it a grunt, he looked towards the noise and there about 100 meters in front of them were the bulkiest Boars he had ever seen. They were about the size of a small horse and 100 times fiercer looking, they had tusks as long as a man’s forearm, eyes as cold as stone and looked like they had the weight of a small car or two. Alexi counted them and saw five in total. “What are we going to do?” he asked.

“Kill them of course.” Package replied in a determined toned. I’ll take the shotgun and draw them away to the left and start firing at them, while they’re busy focusing on me you take your pistol and hit them from behind. Got that? Let’s go.” Before Alexi could reply Package was off and no sooner the boars were after him.

Alexi stood up and ran out behind them, he waited for the shotgun to go. After a few seconds he heard boom, boom, boom. His adrenaline started pumping and he took aim, everything around him started going hazy expect for the boars that he focused on. He saw there were only three left and started shooting at one of the ones that had fallen behind the rest. The boar didn’t take to kindly to this and seemed to shrug off the tiny 9x18mm rounds. It turned around and started to charge Alexi. Its tusk gleamed in the sunlight making them look all the more menacing. Alexi didn’t know what else to do, his bullets had no effect on the boar so he emptied his clip then ran as fast as his body would allow. Pain was flaring up all over him, he was breathing heavily not just from the fear but from the heat of the day mixed in with him sprinting. He had no idea where to go then he saw it, a rock jutting up about 50m to his right. His lungs felt like they were going to burst but he found some more speed from somewhere and closed the gap between the rock and himself quickly. He flung himself on to the rock and clambered to the top. Sweating, panting and in excruciating pain, Alexi smiled. He was alive and there was no greater feeling than knowing this, although it was short lived as he was startled by the attempts of the boar to scale the rock. As it was about to have another go, half its face exploded. Alexi looked up to see Package standing over it. “Come on lad, get down from there a couple more hours than you can rest.” The tone of his voice sounded irritated, but Alexi knew there was some relief mixed in there.

When they arrived at the swamp it was just starting to turn dusk. Package quickly set up a fire and unrolled his sleeping bag then started to cook some of the canned meat. Alexi stared off in the direction of Yantar and spoke in a weary tone “A couple of hours hey Package? More like six.”

“Well I can’t dictate what the mercs are doing now can I? It’s not my fault they were doing a mission. And so I thought it best if we make a wide berth around eight heavily armed men.” He said in a jesting tone. Their moods had become somewhat lighter since their encounter with the boars.

Alexi let out a quick laugh, then pointed towards Yantar. “So that’s where we’re going tomorrow, must say I don’t know whether to feel excited, nervous or relieved that we made it.”

“We haven’t made it yet.” Package said solemnly “We still have several miles of open swampland filled with some of the worst things the zone has to offer to cross before we have ‘made it’.”

Alexi’s shoulders sagged a little but he didn’t let Package see “Thanks for the pep talk” he said with a sneer.

“It’s what I’m here for, but hey the way I saw you handle that boar today, the swamps inhabitants better watch themselves. They’ll be calling you rock-climber” He replied sarcastically.

Alexi let out a laugh at this and knew there was no one else he’d rather have take him to Yantar “So how did you get your name Package? It seems very different to other names I’ve heard.”

“I see what you’re doing lad and it isn’t going to work. I’ll tell you more of my story when i’m good and ready. Tonight let’s laugh about things instead.

And that’s exactly what the two men did before setting up the watch times and eventually getting some much wanted rest.

Alexi's sentence

I made a reference to Grunt and you in my story. Though Alexi gets shot by a SVD in the abdomen which bursts through his spine.

Grunt, on the other hand..

I'm pretty sure that's how he would have wanted it to be
