Why can't I get the songs loud enough for the megafone?

How does quality affect the sound files? I noticed that when there were a lot of other sounds going on that the custom music I put in would break out at times to make room for other sounds that were going on nearby. I put the quality of the music files at .50 to keep down filesize, could this be causing my problem, or is it just because I have an old soundcard?

One other question, how can I make it so that the NPC's in the bar don't talk as much, I figured out a way to do this by editing the sound files, but it doesn't work as well as it could otherwise.

I don't know about quality, I always use 1. It could be the number of channels on your sound card I suppose.

Are you sure your not using the same soundfile twice in the same map? In testing I added music to barkeeps radio and the megafone, now both cut in and out, like you were quickly turning the volume down and back up. I finally figured it was the engine trying to access the same sound file in two different places on the map.

As for the bar patrons, check out config/misc/script_sound.ltx and look at the entries starting with "bar". Find and play that sound from the archive, and if you don't want it simply remove the line from the ltx file.

If you don't want complete silence, try changing the lines instead. I think it was Fatrap who changed them to coughing, whistling and laughing noises.

Thanks, I appreciate your replies. Yeah, I have 2 different folders for the radio and the megafone. Whatever is playing from the songs just kind of cuts out if an incread of other sounds are playing nearby like lots of footsteps. I could try it with increasing the quality, but I'm turning it into a mod that others can d/l while keeping the filesize low.

No worries, feel free to e-mail it me if you want me to try it out. I have an Audigy soundcard. That way it may show whether it is the quality of the soundfile or lack of channels on your card.

Need help with editing sound files

I read your posts in two forums and you seemed to know what to do. Im sorry to contact you this way, if it bothers you. You helped someone with the main menu music in some other forum, and you had a link to here. Im trying to change the main menu music as well, but i have a different problem.
I got the sound files to work with the SDK. I can play them properly within the SDK (so they should be converted from .wav to .ogg), but after i close the SDK and go to the SDK gamedata, there is only some "zone_mosquito_bald", but not my files.
Yes i did change the quality while in the SDK, and yes it did load it for a second. I also have both _l and _r files, similar to each other, and Audacity opens them with two lines (if you understand what i mean). They should also both br mono, 44100 Hz, 16 bit.
So my problem is the SDK doesnt save them, i guess. Any help would be appreciated, and i thank you in advance.

P.S. Im new to posting these, and i made this profile to this forum just to message for help. I have no idea if these actually appear in the receiver's email, or if my name appears anywhere. Pardon my grammar, english is not my native language.

You just want to change the music while in the main menu?

Also, FYI: It appears the last post in this thread was four years old. Next time, feel free to just start a new thread

Make sure they are monaural, WSAP33. Split them if necessary.

I would like to make a suggestion: Use SAVandT instead of all this LE stuff if you just want to adapt Ogg Vorbis sound files to work in SoC.

First use Audacity to export your 44100Hz 16-bit .wav file to .ogg, then use SAVandT to add the commenting needed by SoC. Adjust those parameters. (Main menu music is pretty much a don't-care: you can use default settings other than maybe boosting the base sound volume.) Click "Apply" and the sound is ready for use in SoC.
