Making mutants respawn with LE

Using the SoC SDK's level editor, can anyone recommend a relatively easy way to make the mutant population of a map respawn eventually, like most mutants in the rest of the Zone? I recently added a new map to my mod, but it contained no AI life of any kind. I've started adding a few test mutants, and I'm hoping to make it so that the player can wipe them all out, leave for a long time, come back, and encounter the mutants all over again.

Ideally, it should be as simple as possible. I don't need the mutants doing anything specific, other than respawning eventually (and hopefully wandering around on their own some, like blind dogs with no smart terrain do in my tests). I know I need to use smart terrains or respawner entities or something, but I have no idea how to set those up in the Level Editor, and I've never found any good tutorials for doing that. Any help would be much appreciated.

You can pick up many info from here:

In level editor, it's just adding a Shape (appears as green sphere or box), adding a ai\respawn or ai\smart terrain spawn element (appears as white flag) and last with "attach object" attach together the shape and the spawn element. Edit custom data, and see in game how it works.

Thanks for the advice, and the great link. I've learned a lot from that thread. I successfully set up a smart terrain and respawner in the new map, along with simple jobs in the gulag files, and used a debug tool to confirm that the smart terrain is fully functional. I also confirmed that the respawner works. However, I can only get it to spawn one bloodsucker, when it should be spawning three or four. I've tried a number of different things, but nothing gets more than one bloodsucker to show up (until I kill it and wait a few days, and then another lone bloodsucker will show up). Has anyone encountered this issue before?

EDIT: I have no idea why, but increasing the smart terrain capacity to 10 and the respawner max_spawn to 8 makes 6 bloodsuckers spawn. And with the smart terrain capacity and max_spawn both at 7, 4 spawn. So I guess my new question is, what's with the inconsistency? Do I just try different numbers until I get the desired number in-game, or is there a system to it?
