Darius6, w_ak74_shot1 is used by a number of silenced weapons. Could you please fix any files using this for their silencer sound (and include a silenced rifle sound) so that silencers actually *do* something now?

Yes, i know, but at the time when i was making this mod, i didn't realize that most guns use this sound, i only edited the ltx's that had their primary firing sound replaced.
I'm actually planning for next release to make all weapons have their own silencer sound. Plus, the silencer shot sound volume must be set around 0.6-0.4 for it to actually be quieter than normal shooting sound. Only problem is that the sound itself will become quieter.
It would be great, if i'd figure out a way of using a good silencer sound and have the sound percievement lower than normal without the actual volume drop...

Man, sometimes i wonder why i didn't stick to my original plan: Do every other sound EXCEPT weapons. I might actually revert back to that. There are already enough weapon sound mods...

I'm seriously thinking of cutting the weapon sounds as a feature from the mod.

good download but again and same as the others the AK74 and the AK74u and the BM16 and the knife all the sounds come up with errors invalid ogg-comment version or missing the ogg file any idea wats up apart from that the others are fine

I might say with a 99% certainty, that this is caused by another mod. I specifically make sure every sound is properly OGG-commented.

Please don't - yours is one of the few sound mods that has fixed OGG comments for the sound files, and your weapons sound great. It's just that the silencers are broken.

Thanks. Well, I guess I'll be keeping them then.By the way, they are not all my sounds, most of them are from Redux. So credits go to Gohda on them.
It's just that I'm more of a sound designer and the weapon sounds require alot more than just a neat sound to it, like editing diffrent volumes in the ltx's and stuff. Which is kinda frustrating and eats away the inspiration from other areas, thus making every update take more time to complete.
And you all saw what happened last time (1.05>1.06).I totally missed a few crucial things, which caused a release that caused CTD's. And I try to take pride in releasing the best quality I can, so this was a real pain to deal with. The point being that I know HOW to do the things needed, but it doesn't mean that i LIKE doing it. Same with the hud mod I'm making: I want a certain kind of hud and know it requires alot of xml-editing, which i hate doing.
But I do it anyway.

Ok, rant over.

I'll see what I can get together during the holidays. Next release, 1.07, will contain fixes for the silencer issues and a few new spooky ambient sounds specially for night-time. The weapon-specific silencer sounds will
probably be in a later release, since it's really a pain trying to find suiting sounds freely on the net.

I just had an interesting idea, but no clue would it even be possible to do.
This came up relating my new 1154 hud, but it involves sounds, so i think this is the place for it.

What if, and this is a big what if, one could remove the stamina bar from the hud (as I've already done) AND replace it with some kind of mechanic (script etc.) that would replace the visual presentation of stamina with an audible one? Like when you start sprinting, you'd hear "light" heavy breathing which would get progressively heavier as the stamina drains lower? So you could determine by the sound how much longer you have "breath" in you to run. Now if this would be possible to do, I think it would be an awesome feature. Plus quite a bit more immersive than a simple bar in the hud.

As an working example for the idea I could use Operation flashpoint:
There when you started to sprint, the breathing would start getting heavier and eventually you'd start hearing your pulse heartbeat. That really gave the impression, that you were running yourself to the limit of exhaustion.

Well, the ogg-commenting basically fixes some detection/position issues with the ingame sound engine. For example, if a grenade sound is not commented, there might be a issue where the new explosion is loud when facing the explosion, but if the player has his back turned to it, it might make a sound at all. Plus, some un-commented weapon sounds may cause detection issues, where all the hostile npc's register a shot fired all over the map.
And last but not least, you get rid of those pesky error messages in the console.

How to do the commenting?
Here is a pretty detailed tutorial:

EDIT: The ogg commenting is basically using a hex editor to copy/paste the comment part from a vanilla sound to the new one.
