Gras Draw Distance - any help ;D ?

Heeey guys,

I wanted to pimp my experince with a higher gras draw distance, since this (the default draw distance) is almost the only thing that is somehow "not perfect" regarding this game *;D

I have a blasting experience at the moment with the L.E.G.E.N.D.A.R.Y mod, so beautiful graphics, with high grass option and loners PRZ 2 textures.

The only thing missing is a higher draw distance. since I'm to dumb to setup it myself I wanted to ask if someone could provide me a copy of his own manipulated file.

what was the vanilla value ? 25 ? maybe someone has a file with a draw distance 150 - 250 ?! or something in this area.

WOuld bereally cool if someonw could send me his already pimped file

so if anybodywould be willing to share, just drop a line in here, so I can give you my email adress.

Hope somebody can help *

Use this:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8664592/xrpatch.v.0.8.rar
You'll need to install activeperl to use this.
It'll require some command prompt fun
xrPatch.pl -file xrRender_R2.dll -game soc -patch 5 -line 97
-line 97 is the number you want to extend the draw distance to (it has a theoretical max of something like 200)

Hello, Can you explain what you mean by "It'll require some command prompt fun" please.

What needs doing where?

I put your download and the shoc dll's in a folder and launch it but get a blackbox message about

can't open file xrRender_R3.dll!

Cheers.

1. Because you need ActivePerl: http://www.activestate.com/activeperl/downloads
2. Because you need another code for the R3 render, which isn't in SHoC at all

IIRC the latest version does't work the best, but it will suffice

Sorry I didn't explain, had a busy day yesterday..
IF it helps, you need to open a command prompt, cd to the directory you extracted the xrPatch to, and run the command I indicated. Of course, this is after installing ActivePerl.

does this work with Legendary Mod ? Or in general when it comes to mods. will this work with every mod, or might there be restrictions ?

wait, does somebody know which hexes are determining grass distance for 1.0006?
or simple hex edit is not enough in this case?

It should work with anything that does not touch the same bin folder files presumably, I still don't understand what Lyoko is trying to explain but by following the instructions in the vid that Jketinyu linked I now have done the files for r1, r2, r3 and r4 in COP and checked there all working okay. I haven't done SHOC yet but I don't see issues. It's actually really simple when it is explained properly so have a look at the videos written instructions.

EDIT: I put my number to 301 as Jk told me in the past as it is a decent distance without to much of a performance impact. I tried 801 without thinking about it but only got approx 30 fps on DX9 then I remembered to try 301 and it's good. I suppose your gpu matters a lot so if you have a top end model you'll do better obviously but with a 2gb 7850 which is mid level 301 runs nicely in all dx's on COP.

Here's an example of what I had to edit, It is the only line that comes up so you do not need to hunt for it. Just right click on the launch xr_patch batchfilefolder that is in the stuff you download and choose edit then it gives you this line (below) with notepad which you adjust for each dll version and game version

xrPatch.pl -file xrRender_R2.dll -game cop -patch 02 -line 301

Glad the vid helped

What Lyoko774 is trying to explain is how to do it via the command prompt rather than using the .bat file that comes with this version. There's really no reason to use the command prompt when you have a .bat file you can edit and double-click instead. I'm assuming the grass draw distance mod doesn't normally come with a .bat file, it was just included with the Youtube description.

I have Gefore GTX Titan, so maybe a higher value still gives decent frame rates. At the moment I play teh legendary mod + prz 2 mod downsampled (2880*1620) and mostly have over 100 fps. so when I download the package he posted, there is this .bat file included ?

This is an excellent mod, huge difference esp. with absolute nature! It works great in CoP and CS, but in ShoC I get occasional flickering and sometimes vegetation and grass have this jerking movement. Is there a way to fix this? The flickering is really a shame, and it's hard to go back to the default grass draw distance. I've tried with 3 different shaders, Complete, PRZ2, and Shaders MAX. I did install the PRZ2 mod (which looks great), and that produced the same kind of flickering both with and without the grass draw distance mod. I'm really at a loss here..
I use an iMac in bootcamp with Nvidia 680MX. Stalker v1.0005 via Steam, grass draw distance 125m.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I made a separate thread for this issue.

As far as I know its not a simple hex edit, I think it actually modifies an entire asm instruction
