STALKER Complete 2009 BugTrap Error on Launch

Hi,

I've encountered the BugTrap error at every launch of STALKER, but its only started happening since I've installed the 2009 Complete mod. Like a lot of other people who've run into this problem, I get it after seeing the two business logos. I'm running the game on windows 8, on a new computer that I've just built. I have tried to fix this problem in a number of ways including: reinstalling the game after wiping any evidence of it or the patches, putting -nointro and that sound related one (I can't recall the name), running it in compatability modes to emulate windows 7/XP and none of those have worked.

I've managed to decipher the bugTrap error, which is the "XR_3DA.exe caused BREAKPOINT" error. So I've gone to the log and found what the error is, but I don't really understand how I can use the information, and was hoping someone wiser could tell me what the error means and/or how to fix it. The error log is as follows:

[error]Expression : fatal error
[error]Function : CScriptEngine::lua_error
[error]File : D:\xray-svn\xr_3da\xrGame\script_engine.cpp
[error]Line : 70
[error]Description : <no expression>
[error]Arguments : LUA error: ...ow of chernobyl\gamedata\scripts\ui_main_menu.script:54: attempt to call method 'GetGSVer' (a nil value)

I kinda understand what the problem is, it seems that the GetGSVer method isn't returning what it's supposed to, or isn't being given any parameters to act upon. That being said, I can't really figure it out, and was wondering if anyone else knows what this means and possibly even how to fix it. If anyone can find the meaning behind this I'd be super grateful!

No wait, I tell a lie...the error is on the D drive, so it's a disc error? That's really odd.

Did you patch your game to the required version (e.g. 1.0005)?

See:

Ah I'm starting to understand the problem in the link. So the game isn't actually patched to 1.0005, and because of a glitch involving virtualstore and permissions, the computer thinks it's patched. Unfortunately that thread is only talking about Windows 7/Vista, so I don't know if VirtualStore is in the same place in 8. If so, what kinds of files should I be looking for?

The game needs to be patched in order to have Complete mod working - not sure, most probably to 1.0005. First patch it and try again. Also read the mod's requirements prior to patching to make sure you pick the right version.

Hmmm, ok now it's telling me the application is not compatable with my OS, and that I should "Upgrade to Windows 98SE or better." It also tells me the same thing when I try to run it as an administrator and even when I run it in compatability mode.

Ok I've figured it out, essentially the only reason I've been having problems is because I didn't run EVERYTHING as an administrator. Thanks for leading me in the right direction though, you've been super helpful!
