Everyone should play nice and let it go imo, focus is preferential.

I've been mostly photo-shopping distant landscape textures onto skyboxes from StalkerSkies 1.1, tell me what you think:

In this image I feel like there should be a lot more color, the sky basically demands it. I don't have a problem with a fairly lackluster sunset in theory, but the sky texture here necessitates a colorful world imo. But the p-chop otherwise looks good although my attention is being attracted to the height of the distant landscape, it might do to drop it a few pixels. I don't know, I'd have to see it in game to be sure but it looks too high up from here.

Regarding the mod in general, I assume you're keeping the sleeping bag from one of the AMK/OL mods, right?

Biggest question, though, is night/day cycles for the ALife. One of the best changes in CoP, imo, is going to be the nastiness of the night life. I always felt like the game would benefit greatly from making night time a real hair raiser for anyone outside a camp or not in a good hiding place. I think this clearly fits in with the feeling the game tries to capture, is quite realistic, and sort of fits in with what material was published on the game back in the day.

From what I've heard the CoP system will have humans staying indoors/camps when the sun sets, sleeping and keeping watch, and will have mutants on the prowl. Vice-versa during the day. It's a great addition to the game, so I want to know if you plan on implementing anything like that in your overhaul.

Otherwise, the features look nice and I can't wait for its release.

Whoa-ho-ho now I certainly didn't mean to hit the funny bone there, but I was honestly light-hearted in my previous posts, I know the internet doesn't portray inflection in a manner that sets a tone for a conversation, but I certainly didn't want you to erupt into an angry post.

I mean if I'm intruding on your obviously very busy schedule, then by all means I don't intend to keep you. I didn't want to shift the tone, but I honestly thought you were joking when you were asking whether it was Full Dynamic Lighting or Static Lighting, however I was clearly wrong and I'm sorry if I offended. Of course the second assumption that lingered in my mind was that you were insulting me by claiming the difference between DX8 and DX9 was indistinguishable, which having spent many hours tweaking and refining weather, modifying shaders, porting Clear Sky textures, and many other things, you can see why I would be offended by people claiming the difference to be indistinguishable.

However it really felt like a deliberate attack seeing as how even if some things are subtle, the bump-maps on the detail textures, the HDR effect on the sky, the shadows casted from the Flesh. the dynamic light, and yes, I realize there are static light-maps, but I don't exactly believe you can't tell the difference because the shadows rendered in light-maps have tremendous pixel densities over 1024x1024 maps rendered across the whole map, I can't see how the shadows wouldn't spark the distinction, let alone the many, many other indicators that would obviously point to it being Full Dynamic and Static Lighting.

Look, I don't want to seem offensive, but honestly I have a hard-time believing that someone who has 907 posts on the GSC boards, and is partially responsible for the development of many popular mods, wouldn't see these differences that even someone completely new to the game could instantly recognize. I have to believe you were deliberately insulting it because honestly, the difference is night and day no matter how many mods you stack on top of DX9.

I can see now that you couldn't see the difference, and what I thought was a mere joke was a serious question, and I can see that I've offended you by my response, and I'm sorry for that, I realize that I'll soon gain disrespect from other modders if I treat them similarly, which I promise was unintentional, however your response was rather.... Pretentious and rude quite frankly, you're not exactly presenting yourself well to the community either, and quite frankly I don't know how to feel about someone with a name like yours in the modding community has gone so far without being able to distinguish such obvious characteristics in the game, and it makes me frightened that this kind of perception is being put in charge of any form of visual aspect of the game, however Audio is obviously your forte', and your work thus far in that regard is unparalleled.
---END QUOTATION---

S'all good - TBH, though, if I had meant the question to be an attack on your work, I simply would've said that it looks too much like SL . . . which, as I mentioned prior, there were aspects of those screenshots that I couldn't quite tell apart - it's not that I can't tell DX8 and DX9 apart (trust me, if I couldn't, I never would've accepted the offer to help out with the developmental process of SWO3 - a mod that I've held in high regard for a long time for it's visual quality), some things seemed like they could be SL render, but there were other things that (as I had pointed out earlier) are obviously not. Simply because you feel that the differences are "night and day" and that there are differences that new users should be able to instantly recognize doesn't meant those differences are really that obvious - again, I stress it was some of the subtle differences that threw off my interpretation.

Again, there are some mods out there that have gone to great lengths to appear great with DX8 . . . perhaps on my part my queation might have more to do with being exposed to DW/SWO3 for so long that other artistic interpretations just seem odd to me. I'll reiterate that there was just something about the screens that seemed odd, but I wasn't quite sure what it was . . . it could be the more earthly overall tone, or the DOF threw me off (even though DOF is DX9, I'm not used to seeing it as I don't use DOF at all - it distorts the visuals at too close of a distance for my tastes . . . it feels like the actor really needs to et a good pair of glasses), I'm not sure . . . I'm not saying the screens don't look good, far from it - I was just wanting to have any doubt eliminated that the screens were SL. TBH, though, keep in mind that thinking any less of some modders who can't ever tell the difference between FDL and SL isn't exactly a good viewpoint to have - there have been many great mods released where the authors ran DX8 as they don't have the hardware to run DX9.

I wasn't trying to attack your work, or the amount of effort that has gone into just that visual appearance . . . everyone is more than entitled to their own artistic interpretation that they wish to incorporate into their mod . . . and, like painters and other artists must endure, there will always be critics.

Anyhow - I have no hard feelings against you or your work, I'm still quite looking forward to the final release of this mod (as I'm not one to pass judgment until I can play a mod myself) . . . just for future reference, please keep in mind that odd questions will arise from even the most respected modders occasionally . . . we all must be humble enough to not judge other modders based on what would seem to us to be a pointless joke of a question - we all have the occasional lapse or odd moment . . . That ongoing humble attitude (which is quite the norm around here) has made the STALKER modding community one of the best communities to be involved in, IMHO.
