Hmm, i'll have to look into that. I'm currently playing with a hud without the "noise 'o meter", so i had no idea.

I just tested it out without your mod, and it still does the same thing, so I was making a hasty conclusion earlier: it's not your mod's fault that the footsteps are so loud to the game, it is like that even in vanilla stalker. Still, I think it would do for a nice bug fix if you could lower the volume somehow.

Well, i still haven't found which file controls the footsteps, like which material uses which sound etc. And, i might be wrong, but i remeber reading somewhere, that the sound level in the noise meter for footsteps is
"hard coded", so even with silence as a sound, the meter will go up. I'll have to test this to be sure though...

EDIT: Nope, i was wrong. Tried it with nothing but silence as a stepsound. The meter goes to zero. Hmm, so it's something else then. Have to check with vanilla sounds, maybe the meter works just by registering that a sound is played, but has a predefined level for it...

EDIT2: Yep, i tested with vanilla sounds, the sprinting level is exactly the same, so are the other step volumes in the meter. Now i'll have to check has this any relation to the volume of the actual soundfile.

EDIT3: HA! Just as i suspected. The DO have a predefined volume level. I tested with boosting the step sound to almost a clipping level, but the meter shows again exactly the same volume level as with vanilla sound. Now, to figure out where in the files this level might be located...

UPDATE 2!

Well, i decided to upload sort of v 1.02 of this mod. It has both versions included and i reworked the volumes for the footsteps, they should be a bit louder now.
If you prefer the npc's breathing instead of the clatter, then you'll have to use the Characters_voice-folder from the earlier version.

Version 1.02:

Hey Darius, I appreciate the effort in attempting to make the footsteps louder, but I still can't hear them unless I turn up the volume... Anyhow, I don't want to complain too much, because I've absolutely fallen in love with the new nightvision sound.

My guess is that the volume of the steps (as perceived) is controlled by the "npc" setting below. This is from m_stalker.ltx.

[stalker_sound_perceive]
	weapon					= 1.666; 0.75; 10 êîýôôèöèåíò óñèëåíèÿ ïðèîðèòåòàñèëû çâóêà
item = 0.5; êîýôôèöèåíò óñèëåíèÿ ïðèîðèòåòàñèëû çâóêà
npc = 1;1;2 êîýôôèöèåíò óñèëåíèÿ ïðèîðèòåòàñèëû çâóêà
anomaly = 0.1; êîýôôèöèåíò óñèëåíèÿ ïðèîðèòåòàñèëû çâóêà
world = 0.2; êîýôôèöèåíò óñèëåíèÿ ïðèîðèòåòàñèëû çâóêà

On another subject, did you manage to get authorization from the Redux guys to use their weapon sounds?

EDIT: As you see, there are 3 numbers. If my guessing is correct, one must be for walking slow (with shift pressed - also, could the same number define the volume of crouch and low-crouch walking?), another for regular walking and another for sprinting. Now it's just a matter of changing each at a time to see the correspondence.

EDIT 2: Considering that, as shown by Decane, the sprinting sounds are perceived just a bit louder than the weapon ones (1.666), the number that defines sprinting volume must be the third (2).

Hey, what happened to the clatter? Now, it's the heavy breathing sounds again.

Yeah, your 1.02 package doesn't have the right files. I listened to some of the .ogg audio inside the characters_voice subfolders, and didn't hear anything other than the ordinary breathing sound. No equipment clatter at all.

Hi..

Semi-colon ( ; ) in Lua is for comments.. So if there is 3 values, only the first one is the 'real' one. Others are 'tests' by devs (keeping tracks of tweaks)..

Edit : display correction..
Edit 2 : useful link : http://www.lua.org/

A huge OOOPS!!!!

So sorry, i left in a hurry, so i didn't properly check the last version, accidentally merged the characters_voice-folder from the OLD version.
So sorry about that, my mistake. Uploading the correct version now!

EDIT:

OK, proper version now uploaded. Terribly sorry about this. I mixed up the folders...
Now included the louder footsteps and the "clatter".

EDIT2:

Damn,i really rushed the latest version. It accidentally had the OLD breathing sounds AND the old, quiet footsteps. Ok, now a proper version is up (i hope it's all right now...) Fridays,
you know....
