STALKERSOUP...NS...DMX - where to start?

Hi there, stalkers!

I would like to try out some mods for ShoC, and I get the impression NS (Narodnaya Solyanka) is one of the best and largest mods. However, I see there are various versions and updates/patches, STALKERSOUP looking like the biggest/most complete (with DMX). It's a bit confusing quite frankly..lol.
Could anyone point me in the direction of the most stable and complete version of STALKERSOUP (english translation)?

Sorry if I'm asking an obvious question, but there's literally hundreds of pages with posts on the subject here... Btw., I use Steam (v1.0005).

Thanks!

EDIT: I guess I should mention I've already played ShoC with Complete w/realistic gun mod, PRZ2, Absolute Nature. Now I would like to try out something that adds new stories and quests to the standard game.

I don't consider any from what you wrote as best mods for SOC.
"Best" is a very subjective matter.

Here is a similar thread about which mods best to try:

The two most recent versions are

NS DMX 1.3.5 ENGMOD v1.0 Beta by boutch71

and

NS Joint Pak PLO K MA (English)

Both appear to be pretty stable but both will require a small fix or two (at some point in the game) which can be found on the relelvant threads.

That's the best way to know about a mod, just spend 10/15 minutes going through it's thread to see how players get on with it.

EDIT
Personally, I've made three attempts with Stalkersoup's version over the last 18 or so months and it has proven unstable and it has a terrible translation with which you end up guessing what a lot of it means. On each of my playthroughs I've ended up unable to continue the playthtrough at some point and they've all been on completely different builds that I downloaded months apart.

Boutch71's has a pretty good translation and apparently so has Achilles Dave's although I haven't tried that version yet.

Stalkersoup has its own webpage right here:

http://www.tecnobacon.com/index.html

where you can find the latest version, patches, etc.

Stalkersoup has the upside of having shorter loading-times and is more 'accessible' (at the very least in terms of modifying the game to your liking, through a specific script file), it is in my opinion the 'easiest' of the various NS iterations, but well suitable for newcomers

Thanks for the help. It's a lot of info to dig into with the different versions of NS/DMX/STALKERSOUP out there, and to find out which version is the best and most stable mod. Thanks again for the info and links, I'll look into it further!
