Making a new weather pattern and other questions about .ltx-editing

Edit: Sorry, it seems I can't edit the Thread-title, just the message.

Hi everyone. I wanted to ask about weather patterns, among other things.

As far as I can see it is mostly "weather_default.ltx" and "weather_default_1.ltx", which I should be interested in. My question is about how to make a new weather pattern, which actually shows in the game. Making the file itself shouldn't be a problem, but does anyone know how to actually get it to work? Is writing a new file and placing it within "gamedata/config/weathers" enough?

I really don't want to sink too much time into testing out each and every of the values found in .ltx-files, so I kind of hope, that the people here can help me with some of them. Aside from the weather, this mostly concerns weapons and creatures.

1. time_to_aim: Often set at a value of 1.0, but the Abakan has 0.2 and the Mp5 is set at 1.6. I thought that it maybe described the time needed to switch from the hip to the ironsights/scope, but I'm not so sure anymore.

2. In gamedata/config/creatures there are files for the army and for bandits, but not for other STALKER-groups. Does anyone know where I can find the rest of the files.

3. Also, there seem to be no separate sections in the weapons.ltx-files for the unique variants. I know that they use some or maybe most of the stats of the vanilla guns, but a few of them aren't in there. Am I just overlooking something?

4. Changing Health in the Offline Alife section doesn't seem to do anything. Correct? I assume it is easiert to work with resistances.

5. Changing panic_threshold for Fleshes didn't seem to affect them. I'm aware that morale is just one aspect of the whole Alife concept. Hunger also ties into it and there is of course the leash range of the Smart Terrain. Is it possible to cause significant behaviour changes for mutants, just through editing? For example, does a change to

6. fsearchrange (under Other Stuff - selector_approach) do anything? I'm assuming that's the leash-range of the Smart Terrain.

7. In the m_bloodsucker.ltx-file (Attack parameters) there are quite a few values whose function is not always completely clear. Judging from the context it seems safe to assume, that Run_Attack_Dist indicates an increased attack range while running. Run_Attack_Delay probably means the delay that occurs when the Bloodsucker takes a swipe at the player and thus falls behind.
Melee_Rotation_Factor on the other hand has remained a mystery to me. The same is true for Invisibility_BlinkTime, Invisibility_BlinkMicroInterval and Invisibility_EngergySpeed, which can be found a few sections further below. The BlinkTime might be about the time it needs to cloak/decloak, when a trigger is activated.

I think that's about it. It would be great if you could help me with a few of the questions.

Edit: I'm testing everything on SoC Complete 1.4.4. Gameplay-wise there are a few things, that can be annoying. For example, the velocity-changes I have made to a few mutants helps make them more dangerous and lets them give chase a bit more doggedly. On the other hand they sometimes tend to stupidly run around in circles, when being shot at. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I thought that it might be a short leash range.

No. Follow the references. Use Notepad++'s find-in-files feature (or equivalent) for the sections, see how the files are loaded by other files. The top of the pyramid is system.ltx, which has a lot of #includes. The only weather-related include is weathers\environment.ltx, so start there.

Almost all this info has been reported on before. Read the modding sticky topic here and on other forum sites. Use this site's search feature or Google's site: parameter to locate the items you don't know about.

Some quick notes:

time_to_aim seems to be the number of seconds it takes a weapon to settle down enough after moving or firing so that the aim is back to the weapon's default dispersion.

They are mostly not used. Again, follow the references from system.ltx.

>> Also, there seem to be no separate sections in the weapons.ltx-files for the unique variants.

They are usually in config\misc\unique_items.ltx. Again, follow the references.

Yes, I don't think that is used. Health can be set to 2.0, but the game just uses 0 to 1.0 from what I can see.

>> Changing panic_threshold for Fleshes didn't seem to affect them

I don't know what that sets. I found different solutions to panic for zombies when I was trying to keep them from running faster than Flash when I threw a grenade. The panic_threshold had no effect in any of my scenarios -- which does not mean it is not used, simply that I didn't waste any more time trying to find out. Maybe you can find out and add to our body of knowledge.

Or perhaps a search will turn up something. Good hunting.
