TBH, it's not a Creative problem, as ASUS', Auzentech's, HT Omega's and countless other expansion cards suffer from the same "bugs."

---END QUOTATION---

Indeed, that's why I've never bothered wasting the money on trying a different card. The problem seems to be with how the OS interfaces with the external card, not the card itself. And even then, only when I try to run memory intensive mods on SHOC. No other game, including the other Stalkers, seem to have this problem. Integrated sound by-passes the problem, but usually doesn't sound very good.

I guess next time I make a build under Windows 7 I'll have to look into finding a motherboard with good onboard sound. If they even exist...

Oh well, hopefully the compressed sky cubes will lower the memory footprint enough that I can run 3.1 with my card still enabled.

dxt1/cube map reduces the size from 8 mb to 3 mb.

Should be around 300 mb less

... and what about replacing openal32, wrap_oal, eax etc. dlls? I have an x-fi soundcard, and long time ago I had BSOD problems with SMP and SWO, then I found this thread. It helped to solve the problem, BSOD gone forever:

Just remember to backup the uncompressed texture for later editing

OK, guys - heres the fast link to recompressed cubes:
http://www.mediafire.com/?l0dl3y41bpzillt

Im making them part of an official update - but you can download them and use right away.
Author of recompression - ShadowState - states that it has fixed all memory realted crashes for him. And yes - he is also using X-Fi Fatality...

@bamah

Thanks for the find of typo - already fixed

---QUOTATION---
Have you looked at Utak3 2.1 shaders?
---END QUOTATION---

I'm sorry - whats that?

@{imperialreign}

Thanks for the info on shader issues - I will add v1.81 as optional then. I will also add SF Water Shaders - as I was informed that they work no problem and add to the quality.

What are the issues with AAO that you've mentioned? I have not received any mail from you yet (you've got one form me however )

EDIT:

And heres the link to the update:
http://tinyurl.com/3x52esd

Its mostly consisted of the above textures - but there are also some little fixes and option to enable lens flare effect for sun.

First thread in the mod download forum, seems to be a new shader pack just released:

It'll be hard to find an onboard solution that offers anywhere near as good of quality as an expansion card . . .

You can try as robberbaron pointed out and update the game's audio files - as well, making sure your audio drivers and also OpenAL are up to date. If using a Creative-based card, installing ALchemy can help, too. As well, making sure that your output config in WIN audio control panel matches your driver software, too - occasionally WIn forgets what audio setup you're using and defaults back to 2-channel.

They're not sure-fire fixes to issues . . . but they can help. I guess I've been one of the luckier one's using an expansion card, as I've rarley run into problems. Even one's hardware configuration can have an impact on how the audio system is working, also.

trojan - yeah, I got your email, just been overly busy with work recently. I haven't forgotten about ya.

Regarding the issue I was going to mention - I recently ran across a very odd CTD that resembles an "out of memory" error and flagging some env_ambient values (even though they're all fine). I was able to pin it down to only being present with SWO3 + AAO + addons; it didn't occur with AAO by itself, nor SWO3 by itself, nor AAO + DW. As well, it only happened in Stancia1/2 and Sarcophagus maps - no where else in the game.

I did some more research, and others have run into this error as well with other mods - common denominator: these mods are also running SWO3 + AAO or some combination (i.e. LURK, Complete, etc.) - plus all their other stuff. Some users of these mods have complained of it happening on other maps (Cordon, Red Forest, Yantar), but it's not a repetitive CTD. It doesn't appear to be a common CTD, though, as not everyone seems to run into this problem . . . meaning, it's so random between installation and user hardware configuration, there's no way to pin it down to any specific trigger.

I've been trying to find a way to get around the issue - from what I've noticed, it seems to be more of a problem around large groups of NPCs (although the bar area isn't affected in my game ).

Just wanted to throw it out so you know about it being a known issue - as I mentioned, it's so uncommon of an error it's almost not worth bothering with it . . . but, I'm working on it.

Trojan thanks for an awesome mod. The updated cubes don't make a difference on my rig though, that I can see...
With this mod I get 87 fps were I previously got 125-135 with my own weather mod. With or without the update it's about the same...just mentioning it.
BTW the 87 fps is when you are in the street in the rookie camp and look over at Wolf, look away it rises dramatically. I use this spot to bench my mods to see the resource load on any mod I work on.

I think the BSODs were just the Creative card, drivers and OS combination

edit -see my post in the x-fi sound thread.
The .dll files from Banglalore's package did the trick. Maybe you should incorporate them...they seem to have eliminated the BSODs.

Okay, I can confirm that the new sky cubes allow my saves to load without prefetch disabled, and without any .dll fixes. I'm now testing for long term stability of the saves.

However, something I've noticed is that changing maps seems to cause the rain to go silent. Saving, exiting out of the game, and then reloading brings the rain sound back, but it then goes quiet again if I change maps again. Is it just me?

Edit: Tried adding the .dll fixes just to see if it would affect this, but no luck.

I can tell you one thing - this bug is as old as SoC itself - a very well known vanilla issue.
It was fixed in AMK if I remember but I dont know how and never tried to implement it for SWO.

Does anyone happen to know the stand-alone solution for this? I remember I asked a few times throuout all those years but never got the answer...

I guess we're reaching some sort of boundaries of what SoC engine can handle - are in which sheer oddity lies...

I dont think we should be worried to much a bout this - especially since propably there wont be much that we we will able to do about it.

So man - dont worry and - if you can - please just prepare the Env Addon for newest SWO and upload it somewhere.
I dont know however what to do with Particle Enhancement - I want it in package and I want it optional - so maybe you could create two 'Env addons' - one with only all your sound mods only (SoundEFX, AAO etc.) and another one with PE + all your sound mods.
Optionally you could only make a single ENV addon with sounds only and another with PE only. This would however require making all env_ambient sections lead to same *.anm effect filenames - so that it would only be a matter of replacing the anm assets themselves (vanilla effects or PE effects) without having to replace the config (env_ambient.ltx).

Hope that its understandable and of course that you have some time to help me out with it..
