Reality MOD

First I want to say that I have no idea how real will the STALKER be on a hard difficulty. I am a long time Project Reality player so videos I have seen from stalker recently left me very unsatisfied - according to them is STALKER very arcadish with weapons which are more resembling BB gun then their real world counterparts (full auto from pointblank range with Ak74 needed a LOT of bullets to kill an enemy with ordinary armor... ), medikits and bandages heal you instantly and PC can withstand a lot of harm etc.

Is there some interest in community to make a mod which would try to turn STALKER into a more REAL experience?

- real weapon names, ballistic and characteristics
- real wounds (headshot with any weapon without headgear = instant death)
- no magic medikits (medikits will cause HP regenerate slowly so they are of a little use in firefights)
- PC has the same abilities and the same characteristics as NPCs (he is no superhuman like it is usual in other games)

I will said it again. I have no idea how does STALKER look and play on a HIGH difficulty so this post can be a useless rant, but I am interested what do you think about reality in STALKER.

If I wanted STALKER to have real-live combat realism I could might as well take a trip to Chernobyl with a paintball team and go totally apeshit. Video games should be fun to play, not impossible. If that real-live realism would be applied then I think running around with a few rounds of highly radiated plutonium in your wallet would spoil your health drastically and kill you before you knew it..

I don't reject your desire for realism totally, because there are a lot of games where I wish it was there. But getting killed by a single gunshot directly to the head or heart, or being blown to smothers by a frag-grenade and have to keep trying and trying (since I haven't done any military service) REALLY takes the fun away in the end.. XD

Anyway, I'll see what this game has to give when it finally drops in my mailbox! My expectations are high thanks to the many previews and stories.

Excellent idea. I’ve been pondering the same thing, but first we must get the game and see how it runs. I agree completely on the arcadish game mechanics and I know the developers sacrificed certain elements to make the game playable but some of the things I saw in the gamepaly videos were downright weird. Bam your shot five times with an assault rifle and you magically heal thyself in 3 seconds by eating salami and using a med pack. At least make it so that you don’t heal in combat but you use some sort of stimulants or something that will keep you going. I think certain aspects can be improved or even new ones introduced just by modding the game. The question is how moddable is the game?

I believe that X-ray engine is highly moddable. Hopefully we will get some editors and documentation with the game
Like it is usual in Elder Scrolls games (3 )

X-ray will be highly moddable. We will get the SDK though its been announced many times that it will come after the game. Oblivion didn't even have the TES editor with the game originally, you had to download it from the site.

X-ray = Moddable x lots
Reality mod = S.T.A.L.K.E.R. better

That's really all I have to say.
And since has paintball been realistic?

That's easy to say. Gets more problematic when ultra realistic stalker has to be actually playable.

Ugh... Yes balancing is the most difficult and critical part of making a realastic game / simulation fun to play.
But it's not impossible to have the best of both worlds. Look at Red Orchestra, Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault, and to a lesser extent America's Army. They are all realistic games or simulations yet they're all good fun.
