Ugh... Yes balancing is the most difficult and critical part of making a realastic game / simulation fun to play.
But it's not impossible to have the best of both worlds. Look at Red Orchestra, Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault, and to a lesser extent America's Army. They are all realistic games or simulations yet they're all good fun.

All of these games were as realistic as games would get without destroying the overall playability. So with proper balancing of added new features, weapons, items and mmmm vehicles STALKER can only get better. All those who want a watered down version of this game should stick to easy difficulty.

By the way Siro your new sig is very nice

I think that we should wait and see what an unmodded STALKER is like first.

That goes without saying. When I get my copy I'm going to spend a good couple of months playing it to death!

I am eager to see those new video. My "frustration" which make me to create this thread was that French video with a very arcadish gameplay.
It is good that X-ray is moddable and that SDK is on the way - I believe that mods can make any game only better.
First thing I am interested to change are real life weapon names and later their ballistics and characteristics (M16=precise but not very sturdy, Abakan reliable, precise and deadly with 2round burst at 1800rpm but expensive/hard to find etc)

Well I played stalker for 4-5 hours yesterday, here is my "realism" report. Keep in mind I enjoy games like Red Orchestra, Infiltration, etc. so I'm into more realistic gameplay.

I'm playing on "Veteran" difficulty BTW.

Weapon accuracy: I feel they arent accurate enough, really noticible with the rifles I've used so far. Using an ak-74, crouching down, set to semi-auto fire, and aiming with the iron sights it seems I can barely hit a standing man at 50 yards and the first shot always seems to miss. Could just be I suck though.

Enemy damage: This is a big problem IMO, either the guns are very weak, or the enemies are very strong, but it does seem to take at least 6-8 chest hits from my ak on an unarmoured man to take him down. Head hits do kill in 1 hit though.

Player damage: The player is fairly vulnerable, head hits seem to kill in 1-2 hits. At the difficulty I'm playing at this seems to be ok. If the enemy health were modified so they went down in a few hits, the player health would need to be reduced quite a bit too.

Healing and medkits: Using a medkit heals a lot of health and instantly, eating food heals a tiny bit of health too. I would perfer using a medkit heals heath over a longer time span, instead of instantly.

Movement: The player and CPU movement are realistic for the most part. No super high jumping or anything like that.

A.I.: Well I'm not sure what exactly to say about this, it's just as good as any game out nowadays. Nothing revolutionary here, makes all the bad moves your typical AI will make.

Landscape of the zone: I like it, but I am dissapointed at the same time. You see I was under the impression that you would be able to "free roam" the zone. I didnt realize it was just interconnected levels.

Don't get me wrong it's fine as it is, just not what I was expecting.

The way it is it can get a little arcadeish, you still cant just run and gun and expect to survive though.
So if we can just tweak the wepon accuracy, enemy player heath, and how medkits heal, I think it would improve my experience a bunch.

I think buying the game would improve your experience a bunch too.

But since you are probably posting accurate information we may as well make the most of it. At first I was bothered about the quick heal buttons, though if we can just make it so it takes your hands away for 30seconds-1 min so you cant use a weapon it would be really balanced. I agree kits should also heal over time, bandages should still stop bleeding right away though.

Also there is Master difficulty that is higher than Veteran right?

There is nothing we can really do about it except complain, so I'm trying to make the best of it.

i agree with a lot of what was said here. besides the accuracy thing. some weapons should be less accurate. the better bigger gun are much better (i am judging by the mp beta since i dont have the retail yet).

i think that healing should take about 7 seconds to finish.
chest shots should kill within up to 5 hits with a target that is not armed with exo-skeleton. headshot should kill within 2 hits even a heavily armed man no matter what.
i actually think that aiming from the hip (un-zoomed) should be LESS accurate to encourage iron-sight or scop use.

there a lot of things that can be changed for the better but i think that only after the game becomes more popular and we see how mod-able it is we should open a new thread that will include all suggestions for a realism mod.
