Rain sound stops at loading screens

Hi everyone,

I vaguely remember seeing something about this somewhere before, so I thought I'd post it here in case anyone already knows a fix.

Not too long ago, I replaced most of the scripts in my personal huge mod compilation. After ironing out all the issues, everything's been working great, with one exception. If it's raining, it seems that whenever I hit a loading screen (into another map, for example), the rain continues but the sound of the rain is gone. All that's left is the sounds of thunder and wind. Saving and loading doesn't help, nor does returning to the map I came from.

Does anyone know how I could fix this? Any advice would be a great help.

This has bothered me for a long time, and as far as know, no one has ever managed to fix this issue because the root cause is hard coded in the X-Ray engine itself. Something about the game not checking to see if it's raining and loading the appropriate sound file when loading a map in a game that's already in progress. It even carries over to Call of Pripyat.

Completely closing out the game and restarting it will bring the sound back, but only as long as you stay on that map.

I seem to remember a thread here somewhere where someone was trying to make a work-around, but it didn't sound like they had much success.

Yes, it has been addressed. NatVac made a script that can reset the weather state which makes the rain sound return:

Thanks for the link! I used the solution posted by KreoShoc on page 2, and it works perfectly. The game automatically resumes the rain sound after changing maps now. I highly recommend this solution to anyone who's still having this problem.

Nice! I have to admit though, my coding skills are fairly novice.

If I insert the first part from KreoShoc's post at the end of the WeatherManager:update function in the level_weathers.script from the Dynamic Weather mod, then add the second part to game_tutorials.xml, that should work?

It worked for me. My coding skills are also fairly novice, so it took me a couple of tries before it didn't crash when attempting to load. For level_weathers.script, the code posted there includes an "end" at the end that's already present, so don't include both. As for game_tutorials.xml, I just pasted it in right above the three commented lines about a third of the way down from the top that say "Test" and it worked perfectly.

Yup, it works! I even got it right the first time, thanks to your advice.

This has been bugging me for years, and it's really great to finally have a fix.
