I would have to agree. The rating system is a good idea in theory, but there are just to many ways to manipulate it. Add me to the list of concerned people.

No dude, besides the fact that your'r right saying that lot of these stories are not well grounded, the fact that they have at highest a 6.5 score is because friends give them 10 and the others that want to enter contest top 10, or just to have fun with someone that they don't like, gave them a 1, every day. Also, some people menage to vote the stories from different pc's to raise their stats and lower the others. This contest is nonsense to me, and developers dont seem to care about it...

---END QUOTATION---

Spot on. What started out as a great idea has rapidly decayed into a farce, but the difficulty here is how to get across to GSC that many have become disillusioned with the competition - after all, I'm sure they don't want ten stories on their C.D that are only there because those people were the most inventive in screwing over the rating system.

I appreciate they are busy with the game and everything, and that they only started this contest as something to reward the fans and keep their interest in the months leading up to Stalker's release, but if they don't overhaul this system or, at least, tighten it up considerably then the only thing me 'winning' this contest would hinge on is whether I wanted to lower myself to cheating.

Also, please give moderating powers for someone to monitor the feedback in every story's 'comments' thread, as Arthur pointed out the ammount of irrelevant and insulting garbage posted in them ( and allowed to remain ) is astounding. You've even got members just called 'Ilovespamming' who drop meaningless waffle into every comments thread because they know they can, as you can imagine this is frustrating and insulting to the writers - criticism is fine, we need it to build and improve, but mindless and destructive sniping from some anonymous user should not be tolerated.

If you can't spare the resources for this kind of moderation, I'm sure you'd find more than enough volunteers to pick and choose from.

I don't know if CLAWS has any contact with the Devs, but if he does than I urge him to please pass along our concerns to them. We are not a small group of people who just enjoy moaning, but rather genuine fans of this game who don't want to see cynical manipulation of the competition rewarded, it is best to do something now while it's still controllable before Stalker advances in development and all hell breaks loose in the 'top' 10.

And i want to add this as an example, a part of a story's comments:
As in backwards order, this following one is the latest one in timeline.
look at the answers after the problem of the fakeness of this contest was raised by the post nicknamed warsaw.

Yeah, I can't agree more with ya, mate. Last time, I had a man(a.k.a jerk!) who had read my story, found he didn't like it, and gave me a 1. And if that is not enough, he babbled around my review and gave A LOT of negative comments. Of course I appreciate comment, but doing so is like having shits thrown to your face. Humiliating, that's the word.

I also can't agree more with the idea that people will be spoofing around with the point system when the contest almost reach its end. People will try their best to get their story inside the CD, since by doing so, they will become a legend (possible to their grandchildren ) I can't never denied that that is my dream too, but then, being an honest man is not so easy nowadays. But the story writing competition is not a very bad idea. GSC had created it to attract attention to their website!
---END QUOTATION---

Yeah... Go read the comments too: people just wrote stuff like: ''You are a stupid ass, why this garbage is on top 10'' or '' how it's possible that your story is on top 10 you stupid dumb fu*k'' and bad things like this..

Also about the scores: some stories have 2000 votes, some just 50, how is this menaged?

Will ever a Moderator answer to our questions?

I agree totally of course.Still no updates of new stuff, and old stuff keep flamed and bumped until it become totally useless to continue it.

The only thing i will care of for my story will be the opinions written seriously by the readers.

I never liked contest of literature or arts, it's useless.I just care the constructive comments, not the scores

A worrying thought....

Hi all,

Now, I love the idea of this writing contest. I used to write fan fiction for games such as Fallout as I just enjoyed the 'universe' they were set in so much, I didn't really write them 'for' anyone I just wrote because I wanted things to continue even after the game had finished.

Thing is, when you set up a competition with the prize of your work not only being included on the game C.D but actually in the game's storyline as well you can bet that's one tempting prospect for any aspiring author. I suppose what I'm leading around to here is the current rating system, the more I've been reading other peoples work and watching the suspiciously erratic pattern of stories appearing and dissapearing from the top 10 the more I fear that the current system is fundamentally flawed.

Asking others to rate your story sounds great in practise. But you can be pretty much guaranteed that if anyone can abuse such a system then they will, and this one is proving quite easy to abuse it appears. Almost every story that enters the top 10 is bombarded with 'envy' ratings, hence why even the top rated stories here don't score more than a 6.5, plus using a variety of different I.P addresses it is far too easy for people to artifically bolster their own rating with no consequence for them apart from a few accusations from other posters, no 'official' punishment.

What will happen when the game draws closer to release? People will be bumping their own stories with all their might, collective and constructive criticism will no longer apply, all we will be left with is lots of people frantically trying to be one of the few with a chair when the music stops. This contest, and the people taking part in it, deserve better than that.

It's not too late to have the stories independently rated by a panel of judges and/or game Devs, people who have no self-interest in which of the stories win and which lose, people who are merely rating on the quality that they can see. It was a nice idea to have us rate each others stories, but there's just far too many immature people out there who will abuse this system, there's absolutly no shame in admitting it isn't working and making alterations that would support the folk who have put a hell of a lot of time into this work rather than putting them on a stand with bullseyes painted on their foreheads.

What does everyone else think?
