Map idea

Not sure if this is discussed before but anyway.

Because we will have a huge playing area in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. a good map is much needed. I was thinking about some kind of topocrafic stylish map as a default item when you start a new game. The map would cover up the whole section of the zone where you are venturing. When you go to another section, a new map would appear.

To keep track in which section of the zone you are, a small grid with all sections would appear in upper right corner of the screen when you look at the map. The section where you are in would be highlighted in this grid.

Also in my opinion it would be good if the player could not see his/her exact position when looking at map, this way player has to learn to read the map and use his compass, landmarks and other things which will help in finding the right way.

Experienced stalkers could buy somekind of GPS device which gives them a high tech map .

Umm interesting idea...

I got a way, which this could be good...

You start off with some GPS/PDA device which can track where you are but can't really show a map due to the radiation and etc...

You can find maps (very old to just before the blast and maybe even Stalkers hand made ones from veterans) and you can add the info to the GPS/PDA device so you can re visit old areas easily.

Another suggestion is doing this and maybe a fog of war style where if u got an old version, it will overwrite it when you enter a area (lets so for about 1mile around your character the GPS can see the main outlines of towns and etc) and when you leave it slowly goes black on that area (or the last map you used that has that area on it, that shows ups), This will make it more interesting ...

I like the MAP idea. Would add another stat to "level up." At the begining of the game, Mr. Newb has no orienteering skills. At the end, he can find a tag in a tree anywhere in the zone.
