This game shouldn't have a blood and gore limiter. Just go with full gore. i mean your gonna see a blood sucker eating someone might as well see the blood being sucked.

I think the subtext was really gore from bullets and such... but yeah, it
WOULD be a nice and creepy touch of the critters eating people was not
a neat and pretty affair.

It'd be an even bigger deterrant to getting zapped .. seing your corpse get
turned into kibbles & bits.

To put this into perspective, 'kibbles and bits' or gibs like that is kind of gory but it's not realistic. I don't personally find it very disturbing... now, if the mutant in that video was being torn in half, say, by the meat grinder, and you see it stretching until it's spine pops, then its soft tissue began to stretch until it eventually tore, and then its guts unspooled as it came in half and hung down to the floor, I think that that would be a little on the gamy side. Random gibs coming out of some particle blood effect never really disturbed me. Actually, I think it's kind of silly.

Also, there isn't exactly much in firefights that would push the gore envelope except headshots from high powered rifles. And personally, I don't think there is ever a problem with limitting gore via controls. If nothing else, it can help you reduce lag.

Fux: I'm certainly not talking about John Woo or slasher flick gore spattering
walls, floor ceiling, and the obligatory shocked looking innocent bystander.

Sometimes a little gore IS appropriate and adds to the excitement.

Aside: I've been playing bf2 quite a bit of late, it does juuust fine despite
there being no real gore at all.

I my opinion blood and gore adds more emotion to taking down an enemy. you shoot a dozen troopers in most games and you really don't notice it. medal of honor or call of duty are good examples. While this is good for "Hollywood" style games. however if you've played SOF 2 or similar you really notice it when you put 7.62 in'em. It adds more feeling to fighting. The SOF level of gore isn't nessary to capture this effect and probably isn't right for stalker, but there should be blood along the levels of half-life series. Enough that doesn't look like that stalker wanted to take a nap while you were shooting at him. All thats really nessary is wound textures and some blood splater on walls/floor. nothing real messy...

PS it would be freaky to have fairly messy monster victims laying about

I agree.. I usually winced at what the corpses looked like in SOF2. They did the deathmasks quite well.

I think the limit should be, at most, a limb being shot off by a close shotgun/high powered rifle round ala FEAR, or RPG hit. Blood should splatter on the wall behind the victim unless from a lower powered bullet.

Dudes exploding or actual guts splattering about is just unneccesary. However, looking at old trailers, in several instances you see mangled corpses of either humans or humanoid mutants with no lower halves. Could be victims of anomalies, could be mutant lunch leftovers. GSC has to have some kind of gruesome streak in 'em , though it's possible they've softened up in the past few years of development.

Try watching the particle gore effect in "The toughest enemy" trailer. There's some bits and pieces there, but are particle animations with sprite effects.
