No problem. I agree that ANY article of such a short length is rarely
ever more than a puff piece. Journalists barely scratch the surface of
whatever they are talking about unless it's an in depth review taking up
several pages and written more in detail than what we see here. I only
shared it simply because it is rare for Stalker Mods to get any attention
like this from the major internet news sites. Play it and share yours.

I'm in the process of doing that small thing and recording my exploits via a blog on the LA wiki.
Sadly, my first impressions are that I will be returning to this version much more rarely than I did with v1.4002, and FAR less frequently than I played the various flavours of LA proper.
It's not what it started out to emulate:

It's gone off-plan and tries to be all things to all stalkers, with the probable result that it will end up by satisfying few and appealing to even fewer.
That would be a tragedy.
But there's no HOOK to engage the player - the personal economy has been intentionally destroyed for the express purpose of keeping the player poor.
I don't mind a challenge, I don't mind a game being hard, I don't mind particularly a game full of "clutter items" - I'll ignore those that are irrelevant, I don't mind running round in low-tier armour (currently a Mail Jacket) and I don't mind doing the majority of my combat with the knife.
I don't want 'maxed-out' gear either. I don't need to buy a car either - those provided are quite sufficient.
But the "poor stalker" gig gets real old real fast...
As you can see, I might not be as enamoured of v1.4005 as the article writer seems to be.
Exploiting 1.4007 DC as best as I can. I will NEVER, EVER use a "cheat pack" - a game lives or dies on its gameboard. Best of luck, stalker...
