---QUOTATION--- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha Developer’s Cut released
Byte Me:
Lol
Must have been a squeeze through that southern mine gate..
Actually that southern mine gate was put up because of me...
I was a Tester for Lost Alpha for almost 2 years prior to it's release.
I didn't volunteer but Dez himself recruited me having known me for
my reputation of my stories and screenshots of Playing SoC and doing
things very differently and having really long lasting Games. So to make
a long story short, I shocked all the Dez0wave Devs by driving the car into
the Mines from the southern entrance as shown in the screenshot. This
caused the main Game designer ( I won't mention any names ) to
freak out and create the southern mine gate to prevent anyone
else from having similar fun. There are many, many more
changes made like this to LA that are all my fault. The
stories that I could tell about LA and my Testing are
endless. A lot of the botchy, inane, poorly done
executions were changes made due to me.
TS ---END QUOTATION---
As I recall, the initial release (v1.30013) had the GMF heli-chase used to start as soon as you enter the level from Yantar.
That was a bit "wild". If you had a car parked near the crossroads to MW it could easily get trashed losing your loot.
If I remember correctly, you had the great pleasure of running that level from the Forgotten gate (presumably dropping in from the southern Yantar GMF gate)
I think the man himself altered the spawn trigger point as a result of your 'troubles', after all, there's ZERO cover from that direction.
I kind of miss that run/hide challenge, and rather hoped that it would be reintroduced for the DC.
The other heli hunt is much too easy in DV/DS now. Smart move is to purloin an RPG off a dead mil and hoof it to DS, hide in the first building and shaft the heli. Later on you go back for the (sadly much improved) Hospital Service just to ram the DS gate...
Cutting the Oso illuminati scene seems just plain dumb. If that's what GSC originally had in mind with the "Enlightered" Stranger faction then bowing to critical pressure and removing it looks weak, and very much undermines the plot.
There's much more wildlife in the game - especially in the 'Wild Territory' but a lot of areas have broken missions with Countryside being arguably the brokenest of them all.
It is in no way a criticism of your inputs to the game though.
Exploiting 1.4007 DC as best as I can. I will NEVER, EVER use a "cheat pack" - a game lives or dies on its gameboard. Best of luck, stalker...

---QUOTATION--- Back into NS hibernation I suppose.
Those 90+ artifacts found in Pripyat didn't do me any good. In the process of shipping them out I had a CTD and tried reloading. No go on that, just CTD again. So I tried the autosave and that did the same. I worked back through a few, but they all failed. Seems something corrupted the whole thing.
I don't get as much time for the game as I used to, so a run or two through NS should last me a good 18 months or so. I'll come back and see if there's been any changes then.
After reading some of the threads in this section I think I missed a huge amount of stuff. A bit more guidance would be handy. I'm struggling to pick out a storyline - does still it have one?
. ---END QUOTATION---
It still has the storyline that was documented for the Lost Alpha which had a number of forks that were internally consistent.
There is also this embryonic "documents thread" that starts with the Night Raid in Cordon. Unfortunately, this terminates if you miss just one doc...
There's also much more action provided by Seriy (but don't do the Crow's Meat mission) who needs a twit rescuing on Forest.
There IS now provision to access the Rostok area BEFORE going to Agroprom if you wipe some infestations for the Warrant Officer. TBAH it isn't too hard, but does waste bandages and medkits early on. On the plus side - you can likely grab an Obokan off a dead Dutyer, a scope off the Barkeep, a Hunter Suit if you brave the Wilds - all on Day Two.
If you're a b***er for punishment, this sets you up nicely for the Ag, OR a hop skip and a jump for the goodies in Yantar by Day 2.5 which pretty much sets you for the whole early game if you bother to get Fox to supercharge your gear.
Kudos to the devs for making the Wild Territory more of a challenge.
Kudos too for importing gun and armour u/g paths that nearly work faultlessly.
Kudos for the reintroduction of the daft Skills Module that lets you pay for this junk.
But big big NEGS for the total lack of an updated manual and the absence of adequate play testing, which has resulted in the release of a more faulted product than the original LA v1.30013.
(One of the biggest - and probably insoluble - problems that I have is the gradual slowing down of the game as more 'stuff' gets stashed - usually in a car boot. CTDs when headshotting something I am wise to - "make a save before firing"
The end result of this 'rantlet' is that contrary to the assurances, protestations, expectations and "hopes" of various team members that the v1.4005 release will fix this and other trivial issues - and is expected to be released 'this week' - does INCREDIBLE damage to the public perception of the game.
At this stage a bit of honesty might go a long way with what remains of the game's fanbase.
