Matrok - Unfair comment on my story

I read your comment and don't see how you could make the leap of logic that there was cheating going on with my rating. Could you or someone elaborate as to why? Truthfully, I voted once for myself as I'm sure everyone else did too. The other votes, I have no control over.

It's an easy accusation to make unfortunatly, given the current state of affairs, and the few who are innocent of manipulating the system will inevitably get caught in the line of fire which is actually aimed at those who are cheating. I'm not excusing Matrok's comment, it must have been quite hurtful, but I can understand the frustration that led to him making it - sometimes a blind stab in the dark can feel better than doing nothing at all.

The fact remains, if you wanted to, you could have more control than you realise, but with anonymous voters and, most likely, authors taking advantage of such control is why such accusations have surfaced at all - people no longer trust the top 10, and they will look very, very critically at the stories within it, perhaps moreso than if such loopholes were closed.

Of course I can't speak for Matrok, nor would I want to, but for me those are the reasons why over the next few months we will see more and more of these accusations levied. I can't support it, but I can understand it.

Thanks for the reply Ian. Too bad the contest designers didn't think of that aspect before they started the contest. I don't really care if I'm in the top ten or not, but I would appreciate more feedback on my story than what Matrok said. Oh well, I'm not holding it against him/her(?). Hopefully, they close the loophole somehow and end the cheating if it's that bad.

Acutally, the designer had other things in mind when they started the contest. I will give an in-depth analysis here.

STALKER L.C is designed to be a lure- a key to attract people to go to the website to aflame the attraction to the game. This is quite successful as we know it- people from around the world (include me, a Malaysian from south-east Asia) to surf it and visit it regularly for updates. So far, as we know, the Literature contest did that just find- thousands of people have read the contest entries. And, tp be -honest-god, I am one of the victim- I surf the STALKER website almost everyday to see my ratings and comments and updates and interesting articales that might help me improving the tension technics in my oncoming stories... and sometimes also play around by abusing the voting system ( I have repent a long time now, sports. ).

Now this will be my speculation and analyisis-
IF the STALKER style of voting is change, i.e log-ni voting, vote-must-post system, the attraction factor will not be there anymore. People that are afraid to show theirselves (yet still there to put viracious comments and votes. Of course, don't 'perasan', Matrok.) will no longer dare to post their votes. Sooner or later, they will be attracted to other games sites i.e. Doom III and Half-life 2, although STALKER still rules . GSC will not let that happen- the gaming business is highly competitve, and as a Ukrainian company, they need the hard bucks i.e US dollar and Euros for high profit. I am not so sure about the fact, but 1 US dollars was about 10 roubles ( feel free to correct me.) now, they rather have the contest in their present condition then compromise and lost that one American customer who could earn them aout 200 roubles per disc! (speculation, folks).

But hey, I sent 2 suggestions to GSC so that they do not need to worry about the contest if they used it. So far, there had been no reply.

Now, to the main topic:

I did see you comment. It was funny. THis will be also my analysis and speculation. Normally people who give you ten likes your story sooooo much that they will post up comments to show their appreciation. I have a number of case- there was a kid, 14 year-old, called Stealhfish who gave me a ten because he likes it and he actually post in my comment section. Subsequent proof will be in damn good storied like 'He who dares, wins'. Forget about 'The loss of innocence' though- it was a comment site logged with trash . I also had similar experience in my first work- Amos, although to be honest, now I think it is a purile crap.

Now, according to MAtrok, there was 3 ratings of 10 without any comments at all. This is highly suspicious for me too, but I will read it anyway. You might not like what he had done, Midnight Rambler, but if you see it from the other perspecitve, he is just a guy who perserve his intergrity- he refuse to read cheated and gimmicked work. You can't blame him, and guys like this don't exist anymore in this World. Sorry, this might have been putting salt to your sore wound, but then, differenr people have different opinion.
You have to respect him, for me, guy like this is better then guys who give you a '1' to shot you in the back without you knowing who dunnit.

Now, you might have some responds, but then, you must also understand I have been shot in the back several times. My first commet for my second work, you want to know what's the first comment? 'Your fucking story sucks dick." (hey, even I don't know anyone who can put in three expletives in a sentece ) Now, to compare- whose comment is more harsh? I think Matroks comment is actually nothing compared to mine ( hell, I could only get over it when I saw the second comment by our dear Neohunter.) ANd I am only 17 . Be a little bit mature. Get over it.

The bottom line- don;t blame him. You should see things from two perspective objectively to be fair.

Also don't blame me, though.

I wasn't really blaming him, I just wondered why he automatically assumed there was cheating going on. Now I know why. No big deal. Here's the link if anyone wants read it:

Thanks for the feedback Ian. You're right about the novice stalker. He was basically just a throw away character. I suppose I could have built up more empathy for him before I killed him off, but I wanted to illustrate that death is cheap in the zone. Still, I have to agree with you about that. Anyway, watch out for the second part. There's alot more spelling errors, but this time they are intentional. You'll see what I mean...
