Dumb question ...

Is there a way to reload a file from the console within the game?

Never heard of such - otherwise I'd be pretty interested in that as well !

I think you'd probably have to invent it.

If you step out of the game, via alt tab or even task manager, alter something in a file, then go back to the game, you'll find that the alteration has no effect. That only kicks in when you close down the game and restart it.

There must be a way, though. I'm sure the ZRP has means of altering some things whilst still in-game. Might pay to enquire with NatVac. If anyone knows, he does.

Closest thing I heard to that is the LUA consol that Barin made. Check the downloads section I think it is there, but it doesn't do exactly what you want.

A script can be reloaded if you alt tab, copy the script, then load a save, but most xml, ltx type files wont.

Ask Alundaio over in the CoP section. IIRC he found a way to dynamically reload ltx files.

Might be worth asking Tecnobacon on the GSC Stalkersoup forum or email him at STALKERSOUP@TecnoBacon.com. He's done so much recoding of SoC that he would likely know.

Not the system ini or game ini since those are loaded when the game is launched, but you can reload pretty much anything else. Not from console, though, you would have to create it yourself or port xrs_debug_tools from Call of Pripyat to SoC. It has a debug console you can execute lua code from.

If you want to give a NPC new logic and ini in-game in real-time you just do this via a script:

---QUOTATION---
-- Store new ini
db.storage[npc:id()].ini_filename = ini_filename
db.storage[npc:id()].ini = ini_file(ini_filename)

-- Set new section logic
db.storage[npc:id()].section_logic = logic

-- Select new active section
local new_section = section or xr_logic.determine_section_to_activate(npc, st.ini, st.section_logic)

-- Switch to new section
xr_logic.switch_to_section(npc, st.ini, new_section)
db.storage[npc:id()].overrides = xr_logic.cfg_get_overrides(st.ini, new_section, npc)
---END QUOTATION---

I test new logic with my debugging scripts like this in-game, without having to reload or restart game.
