No, I`m latvian, we (Baltic states: Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) were strange entity in USSR - our history (german occupation etc) makes us more west-thinking and we didnt fit in too well
About the other thing - man, there *has* to be an english version. I know because one (defected, hehe) latvian academic had created something like Borges fan club in States. I`m not sure how much of it is available on Net though. But Borges is classic. He is one of those who has heavily influenced any serious mystery (also sci-fi and fantasy) writer.

Back to the story (although I do like the psuedo-politics )...even if it's like a month later.

I like this story (and Blowout 1 - since they're sort of connected). The descriptions are fairly nice. I'm just wondering what exactly happened...since one second he's going into the cabin, and the next he's lieing on the ground. Of course, if it's part of a bigger story I could probably understand what's going on, and it's supposed to be a short story...so I guess it's okay.

The 'SitRep' at the end sortof fixes it, but I still have no idea what actually happened. Descriptions were nice though. (I assumed the gravity anomaly screwed with his brain or a controller got to him, or he suffered from some weird radiation dementia or something)

Then again, Kakermix has probably abandoned this story. I don't think anyone's really hanging out in the literary contest forum anymore...

I thought this was a great short story!
I also think that it would be really easy to extend it (when you suddenly jump into a characters mind you really can go anywhere, especially if the reader is never really sure if they actually are in the characters mind or in the 'real world').

I would only suggest finding some other 'official' explanation for the whole incident. Radiation might have been 'a catch all' in the fifties, but these day it doesn't really cut it. Even something like an 'unknown virus' sounds a bit better.

For reference, the impression I got was that the whole thing was caused by a single mutant (something like one of the controllers).

To me, that's what makes this a good story.
