How many times did you send in your story?

We sent in our stories one time.

Wow... Maybe you should send it again instead of complaining so much? Maybe they didn't receive it? Send it once more.

Thanks for the Reply Claws. After sending the stories in I e-mailed
GSC 2 weeks later asking if they recieved the stories but never recieved an reply.
Do you know who I should e-mail?
I e-mailed the stories to stalker@gsc-game.kiev.ua, that was the e-mail
that was listed in the contest Conditions on the STALKER website.

Thank you again.

Then again, I got too carried away with my previous comment. I gotta tell you, last three I sent three version of my ammended stories to GSC, and they got all of them. Most likely now, they are collecting all the stories until January, then publish them out all at once. But it doen't hurt to sent it again. Anyway, atem@gsc-game.kiev.ua is the email for the website moderator, so you should ask him if he received the stories. And as him nicely, just like what I did He is a helpful fellow.

Why is everyone sooooo surprised? My sister and I sent our stories in a long long
time ago and have not even received a reply letting us know they have received
them. They have not showed up on the website either so we do not even know
if they have even received them. We spent a lot of time writing the stories and
Think that GSC is doing us wrong by ignoring us.

Jeeeez, johnadaniels, I'll tell you straight to the face, and I will tell you honest. If I am a folk from GSC, those who are pestering me would be the last to be serve by me. Can't you be a little patient here? EVERYONE HERE WAITED AS LONG AS YOU DID DURING THE JULY-OCTOBER RIFT!
---END QUOTATION---

Well, i wrote a story some time ago, and i sent it to GSC almost 3 times, asking in the 2nd and 3rd time to be advised if something was wrong with the story.

I didn't get a reply.Story was never uploaded.

So i posted my story in the forum, and some nice people suggested to do some reparagraphing, and to cut out all the expletives.I made the reparagraphing, but didn't
censored my story, and sent it again.3 months passed and still no answers and no updates. Finally, with the new entry of Atem, i recieved a answer.Atem told me to cut out
all the bad words and expletives.....actually i can't really understand why, but i agreed
finally. Now i sent my story back, and this time i hope it will be uploaded....also cause
contest timeup is already arrived.

So check up your story, be critic in order to find anything that could make a problem,
and then try to send it one more time. Then wait, cause the more they go further, the more they havn't time to spent on this things.

That explained why we haven't see you for such a long time (hello there). But cnesorship is something VERY new to us here, I think.

Yes, such censorship is pretty new, and a little concerning IMO. I sent in Part3 of 'The Difference' the other day and it does contain some expletives ( Russian and English ) but they are only used sparingly and in context - some of the scenes simply wouldn't work without them.

Of course excessive profanity should be avoided, but by the same token having a gang of Stalkers being torn apart and expect them to say 'oh...blast!' or 'freaking hell!' is a bit naive. Kinda reminds me of what it said in the South Park movie "Horrific, deplorable violence is okay.....as long as you don't say any naughty words!'.

hi all

well, that was really a censorship, and i was thinking to not join the contest in order to censor for such a stupid reason. But actually i saw that those expletives were too much also for a panicking rude soldier, that is not giving bad words away to someone but is desperate about his deep situation and feelings...so i agreed that in this case a word like ''damnation'' is better then ''fuck''.

Anyway, to me this cheap censorship is just another proof to how this contest is not a serious one, but anyway still entertaining 'cause the subject is interesting and the people are producing lot of stories...

Does the explicit language add to the story? You could always write narrative about him cursing... describing the repugnance and urgency of the language he's using... heh.

not what I expected

When my son told me about this contest a few weeks ago, I decided to write a couple of stories and give it a try. I had not read the forum yet and was unaware of the controversy. I had not written ths kind of story before and thought that it would at least be a way of gaining some constuctive crticism even ifI did not win. While it seems that some writers are doing that, there is far more going on. What could have been fun and a learning process for the writers has been subverted by dishonest and overly competeive conributers who just want to win at any cost. But I still hope to gain some valuable criticism, and will give the same to any who are interested.

Oh No! GSC is not changing anything about the contest!

Unfortunately we will not change the voting system, but we are reading all
stories and we will know what story is the best.

Subject: any change?

hi
I know this mail probably will not get replied (since when does a website moderator reply anything other then problems regarding the website), but then, just wish to ask about the voting system, since GSC did know about the flaw, and will there be any change.
And oh, Merry Christmas, though I don't know if Ukrainians celebrate Christmas or if this is too early for the people of GSC.
Thank you!

I don't know what to say when I had this mail in my account. Aghast, shocked, bemused. Use any terms you want. *sigh* I am disappointed, sice I was anticipating a major change in the voting system. But At least we still know that the Devs are reading the story are chosing them from the best. Ang hopefully, they have change their mind during Christmas.

P.S - Pls, nothing to personal when you comment on this.

Well, there are two ways-
1) post your story in this forum. Most of us would only be too happy to give you an unbias opinion (if ourself are not biased)
2) sent your story to GSC. The ghost voters who dump '1' seldom give comments, but true voters does. See for yourself.

Blech. I didn't even realize they were censoring the stories. While generally I do not use language that might be considered "coarse," censoring is just the first step in a long line of steps that could easily ruin any story. In some cases, as Ian_C specified in his post, vulgarities are necessary. While in some cases, substitution can be used, in others, it cannot. I know I've written stories where if the vulgarities were replaced with "freaking" or "crap," it would completely destroy the flavor of the story.

I'll say it again: Blech.
