Are you ready to vote yet?
Have you guys vote yet?
I'm the first guy, so I'll take the first one. No, even I, as someone who had read almost all the contest entrees (okay, that new "Things that go bump in the night" hinders me from putting a complete "all" in front. Bloody bugger ) . I'll probably vote at the last possible moment.
To be completely honest, that 3 votes represents incredible power, the power to chose whether you can walk down the streets beaming that you are a top ten winner, or you just sigh and say "well, 155 entrees. Just tough luck". Damn, never thought I could have so much power over who actually wins the contest.
So I'll just wait and see. Who knows, maybe another guy who does it better come out and beat Goodspeed down my 3-man list (oops.) But I sure stand little chance to win, since frankly little people had finished my stories...

My email on atem on the contest
---QUOTATION---
Frankly, I am very, very impressed by the new contest system. Probably it is koan who came out with the idea, but whoever he/she is, tell him/she that the system make some of the literary contest's worst critic a happy chappy for the day. Thanks, thanks a lot.
>No problem
Now, The overall system is the best I have seen- fair since only the authors, those people who knows what it takes to write, are the ones who vote; good because it allows almost no erroe; and foolproof because no one knows who is top-ten until it is over. Yet, there is a few finer aspect I need to tackle.
1) throw away the top-ten board- I had been saying it over and over, I know, but I am convince that GSC is determined to make the contest equal. When you have that top ten board still on, those at the top ten, even though the old voting system is long gone, are those which are the prominent ones or the ones that are easily seen by all. This means that only those at the top ten board get more attention then everyone else. Which means that all the stories I do have no attention. Remove it!
We can't do that because people who in the top ten should have more chances to win. I think its fair.
2) Series stories- There is a couple of stories in series- My story "Prey of One, Predator of Another", "He who dares wins", "The difference betweem you and me", and a few more that is in series. These stories need to be in one, under one title. This also makes your job more easier.
3) Three votes per author? You gotta be kidding. I know it can be hard for you guys, but I am advising as someone who has read ALL the story the contest has to offer (okay, except for "Things that go bump in the night" by Brandon Purdie, it is no my work after all ). Three votes is not enough even for me, for 3 votes is only about 2% of the contest! I recommend at least 5 votes, the maximum 10. But because 10 is tooooo much to keep track of, I think 8 votes per author is good. 5% of the contest entree is about 8 stories. I can survive maybe with 5 votes. Please, this is very important! 3 votes are just not enough!
>Whats done is done
4) Send an email to EVERY participant. This may be outrageous, but it may also be the only way to draw attention from the authors. If you can't handle it, give me the addresses so I can send them the address. I can handle the typing, don't worry. You can handle the Russian section, I can handle the English ones.
>Its nearly impossible
5) Give them time- We need time to rethink the choices. Give the authors a month to read through the contest board, because that is about the time needed for an average person to do so. This can also give you some time to set out the framework (and save you some time. See, it is a win-win situation). Don't tell me GSC have to send out a prototype disc to THQ by August!
>We'll give them about two months
6) Don't accept any more entrees- I know it is noble intention of you, but you cannot take anymore contest entree! Even I will be confuse on who is to chose when you keep posting new stories.
>We are not accepting any stories
7) Finish posting the stories, once and for all, so we can make the final choice. Nothing can be as 'daff' as having making a choice. only to discover that there is a better story of your choice. And I happen to know a few stories that is good and sent to GSC, yet haven't posted yet. I shall list a couple after I finish this email.
>all the stories that we have we've posted
That's it. I'll be all too happy if you can heed my advice.
The stories that had not been posted, yet I am convinced there had been sent:
1) The inhumane condition - full, epilogue. This is in the contest already, yet the one in the contest is the first one. Post the full version.
2) The difference between you and me - 3rd chapter.
3) Prey of one, Predator of another part 5 & 6 - it is in your database! How can part 1 and 4 be posted. but part 5 and 6 aren't?
4) There is no bluebird in the Zone. - the author said he had already sent it to you at December 2003.
>Send me that stories in HTML ---END QUOTATION---
Pay attention guys:
1) no new stories ANYMORE
2) Those who have sent in their entree, you have either today or ther rest of the week to sent me your stories, provided that you have proof that you had sent it in during December. *i.e- work started before December*
3) This works except for the above guys, I am already working on the html version. Please make sure the email address that you put in aren't for "spam" mail, because that's the email you're going to work.

---QUOTATION--- Interesting stuff, thanks for the update.
As regards proof of sending in earlier parts, I asked Atem for an extension the day before the contest was due to end and he said he would do what he could, I then sent in Part 3 on the 12th January ( explaining that although I had intended to finish Part 4 as well I couldn't manage it ). Looks like even if I could manage to finish Part4 before the end of the week there obviously be no proof that I finished it in Dec, of course I'll still be completing it for the Literary forum though.
---END QUOTATION---
I can make adjustment to that, Ian_C. You posted around March.
ChanSD5- I will take yours directly from the forum if you don't mind. Otherwise, post the ammended version and I will work on that.
