For lack of appropriate Russian...

Где - истории? Или, на Literary Contest страницу?
Тоже, я американский .

Woot, Russian 101. So...are you referring to the literary contest page, or the russian forum page (which I'm not sure if there is one for the contest), or something else and I'm just weird?

Oh...well, I tried.

My transiteration skills aren't all top notch, but I'm assuming that was kindof addressed to me (heh). I think it was, "You're hard to understand here, is that what you asked or are you simply speaking?" (cyrillic is so much easier...heh).

Here's my translation...of myself:

Где - истории? Или, на Literary Contest страницу?
Where are the stories? Or, [the ones] on the literary contest page?
Тоже, я американский
Also, I'm American [you know, instead of European - perhaps United States-ian works better?]

The Russian courses at this university suck, so I only got to take 101...which pretty much means I can conjugate about 6 verbs (to read, to write, to understand, to know, to live and to go [there was also 'to relax' but I've long since forgot it and its impossible spelling]).

If someone could point me to a cool Russian grammar site (that's not www.MasterRussian.com - which is nice, but not all that good) it'd be much obliged.

I think we need a "How to learn to speak Russian" post .

[after re-reading the first guys post, I realize that serp's remark could be directed at either of us, but...whatever]

[back to the topic]
Where are the storys [sic] he's referring to now?

he is just probably using a translation service, I think. He wouldn't happen to think that onyl Europeans are reading these stuff, is it? To say that the only guy who ever attempted to read this stuff is a Malaysian-cum-Kiwi, this is a disgrace to all the guys of South-east Asia and Ocenia

Your english not very good, but good (O what the hell am I saying). Good for a Russian who can speak English. Enjoy! We can't read Russian story as we don't understand them. If we switch language with internet program, they will appear very weird. Are they good? The English one is good Hooray English!

Hey Stalkergen, thanks for visiting us English speaking friends. I am very well looking foward to reading those russian stories, I will use a translator to help me. I am intrigued by Russian literature actually, especially from people like Sergey Ivanov (the writer of the stalker setting). I think the online translators can fully translate this right?

Russian -> English translations work much better than English -> Russian (although, you can kindof see problems with the Russian->English ones already). It probably helps if you know little bit of Russian to assist in the grammar.

Because Russian has a case system (nominative, accusative, dative, etc.) the sentance structure is quite lenient. English basically lacks cases, aside from nominative and genitive (The cat walks [cat = nominative], I walk the cat [I is nominative, cat is accusative/direct object], I walked the dog to the cat [cat is now dative/indirect object], I walk to the cat's litterbox [cat is now genitive/possesor]).

The only remnants of the case system in english are with pronouns, as in:
I - me - to me - my
he - him - to him - his
(dative doesn't really exist in english, it's just the accusative with a preposistion (to me)

I like the cool German, seeing as English is Germanic, it's easy to relate...
the man - der Mann
the man - den Mann
to the man - dem Mann
the man's - des Mannes
(actually 'of the man' - as a legitimate german sentance would be Die Frau des Mannes ist sch

Russian dialogue with english subtitles is always better (and much cooler ) than a English Dubbing unless the team has good English voice actors.

Hong Kong action flicks (i grew up with Hard boiled, A better tomorrow, chow yun fat movies) sound better with Cantonese (stalker will have an asian market right?) with english subtitles than a stupid english dub.

Man, I really an anticipicating this game more than Half Life 2, or the next Unreal powered game, I am gonna save up money over summer to get an upgrade so i can see the DirectX 9 effects.

True, or my personal preference would be all in Russian dialogue with NO subtitles.... would force a person to start learning pieces of Russian fast

nothing. . Its the cultural difference you see. Like here in NZ, heaps of people still thinks that every Chinese knows Kung Fu, and that Jackie Chan is a great Kung Fu master. Similarly, Americans thinks Chow Yun Fatt is great (and he is!), but he is just an actor. His, and most other actors', Kung Fu came from the action director (i.e those who coordinates actor movement to make them look like Kung Fu moves.) That's almost a fact well-known in Asia. There is only a few actors who truely knows Kung Fu- Bruce Lee for one, another is Hong Ching Bo (the fat guy).

yeh the kung fu movies that were dubbed don't look the best at all

Jackie Chan could be simple saying "which way to the men's room" and then half an hour later his lips are still MOVING **slight exaggeration**

anyway . . .
