Choppy and impulsive narrative thread leaves me wanting to adjust the tracking knob. I would prescribe the Chicago Manual of Style and some quaaludes. Also, having a typo in the title is typically not a prelude to success. Perhaps you will have these shortcomings ironed out by the 23rd installment

Look, guys, if I'm incompetent or whatsoever, I am readily accepting that fact. But what troubled me the most is that I spent lots of time at research and writing this thing- I am almost sure that I sent in the thing in the best form it could (The mispelled title was not my fault). Worst is, the lack of comments really trouble me as if what this guy saying is true. While a momentary comment from guys like Neohunter is cool, I really need an in-depth analysis of the story. I really need to know whether that comment is coming from a guy who really knows what he is saying OR an imbecile who loves to throw nasty comments.

Uh, Amoki you really shouldn't be troubled by any of the comments that get posted on a web page.
I know that might not make you feel any better, but if you really want to get an opinion that you should value then take your story to someone that you know and who's opinion you respect (a teacher, for example). While any comment posted on an open forum on the web may well come from just such a person, it could just as easily come from a 10 year old with nothing better to do.
Also it's important to remember that there are over 6 billion people in the world and they all like different things. I'm willing to bet that plenty of folk would apply that comment to one of ( insert name of favorite author here 's) books.
Don't be woried by the lack of comments. People are lazzy and you'll note that most of the stories with a high number of votes are little more than 2 pages long.
I recently got a comment saying that I should write for my readers. I'm not going to argue with that (much), but I'd really rather write for myself. If other people like it, then that's a bonus. |

I feel bad about not having read your story in full yet, and providing useful analysis, so I really will start in earnest now.
I'm reminded of the first time I posted something up for comment on a writing fiction webpage, I assumed that everyone on the board had the same enthusiasm for writing as myself and, despite my very amateurish work, would be able to provide criticism while seeing the same potential that I did. I only had one reply, and it was a real doozy, it tore into my work with something nearing ecstacy, not a paragraph got past some 'turn of phrase' or 'grammatic error' which was brought up for comment. I'll admit I was vulnerable then, but there was nothing constructive in that criticism; it was penned by a bitter old hack who hid behind a veneer of 'friendly nitpicking', and above all it was ended by the immortal 'welcome to the forums, hope to see more of your work soon' when I remain convinced they knew I would never be coming back.
It's easy to broadside someone's work online, it's safe and it makes you feel superior, temporarily powerful, you can forget about all the problems with your own work ( or not, as I remain convinced that 95% of these critics have never written in their lives, if they had they'd know how hard it is ) as you direct your frustration and anger onto someone else who's laid themselves bare, it's peverse.
As Kristophan said, people don't want to read a long work without definite guarantees of satisfaction. I know this is outrageous, so does any other writer, but when you post something up on the Net people really do feel they're doing you a favour by looking at it and that you owe them something for that. To an extent, this is true, I am truly grateful to anyone who takes the time to read my work, but if they turn on me like a rabid dog and try to hurt me when it doesn't live up to their expectations then they're not a critic, just a frustrated bully who swaggers about looking for wannabe authors to pick on.
Now, Amoki, I have always valued your input on my work and the enthusiasm you've shown for it has given me a great deal, but there may be other reasons that you're recieving such vindictive criticism, not the main reason but perhaps a contributing factor. For example, take a look at the feedback you left for that 'No title' story on the main-page, sure a story with no title and not even a listed author is a little odd - but plainly dismissing it as 'stupid' will only work against you, harsh can be good but plainly dismissive towards another person's work ( unless it's an obviously half-assed effort ) is another thing entirely, you surely know enough by now about how hard this whole thing is to not blast someone who would make the effort.
Don't become like that embittered 'critic' who tried to shoot me down when I was first starting out ( and who no doubt did the same to other newbies on a daily basis ), you're better than that, show people respect and 99.9% of the time they will do the same for you.

The world is a very unforgiving place, when writing, dont expect everybody to boast and rave about it. Professional writers who write for a living probably has to deal with this for every work they publish. If your work is good, then perhaps the majority will like it.. but there will always be people who is indifferent to it. Dont take negative comments so seriously.
Just relax, and keep creating your works. Who cares what people say, writing for me is self satisifaction in that I have completed a goal each time I finish a chapter. Write what you think is good and not what other people say.
Love to the cool and the genuine people, the last real diplomats on earth.
