Profiles Manager *Alpha* stage

The quick: I made a profiles manager that allows as many profiles as you want with their own seperate gamedata, screenshot, and saves.

Scroll to the bottom if you want to download without reading the long.

The long: My wife and I play this game pretty regularly since we got it. As such, we have about 90 save games to search through when we want to play. I decide after learning that she had modded the game that I would build a profile manager.

My wife and I have been using it for about 3 days now and it works great for us. That's not to say there wont be bugs, after all it is software!
Anyway, The first time you load it up it will seem as though it's not doing anything. Not true, it's just parsing the registry for the install path of STALKER. (I couldn't code it to always look in C rogram FilesTHQ........................... because some people don't install there.) After the first load it should load up fairly fast.

Directions for making a profile:

Start Stalker profile Manager (Start>All Programs>Stalker Profiles Manager> Stalker Profiles Manager)

Click the button "Edit Profiles"

Click in the "New Profiles" edit box and enter a name. (names have to be in the same style as folders. IE no funky characters like #$@%^# ยบ)

Click the "Create" button

Click the "STALKER" button to launch stalker once you have selected a profile.

To change your image, click the "Edit Profiles" button and click the up/down arrows. Once done, click the red X box to close the window.

To delete a profile, Click the "Edit Profiles" button, click the profile to delete in the top left box, and click delete.

That's about it, OH yeah! almost forgot. I programmed it so you could put as many pictures in the images directory of the profiles manager. Want you face there? get an image, resize it to 140x105 and name it in numerical order. (IE if the last image is 10, name it 11.jpg) Also, you need another copy of the image, but resize it to 214x144. Name it the same as the smaller one, except instead of .jpg, name it .big. I used the images from the fansite kit I came across, so if GSC has a problem with this, let me know and I'll replace them with screens I took.

Remember this is still way in Alpha as it is only 3 days old. If ya have problems, let me know.

[Edit] forgot to tell you how to add mods. In your STALKER directory (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl > bin) is now a folder named profiles, inside that is your profiles folder with gamedata inside of it. put your mods there and they will be copied over on start. [/Edit]

That's it,
Joe

V1.0.0.3

Someone over at "The Zone Survivial Guide" emailed me and asked if I could make the program give you the option to save the backup data as a profile instead of just backing it up. This way he(or she) wouldn't loose their current saves. So I did, and have uploaded a new version to my server.

I've offered to make a patch file if they installed the old version already, and the offer holds here as well. Just let me know.

Good stuff. Would be neat if we could find a way to change the characters name/picture as well to go with each profile.

I know you're not supposed to post in these, and post in the discussion instead, but.

I love you.

Thanks.

Runtime error Error 8003 - Could not find path at line 757

What does that mean? It happens when I try to run the profile manager now after making my first profile. If it matters at all my STALKER is located in a 2nd hard drive (labeled "G:" Not C: .

Sorry bout that R2K. Seems that the new installer I'm trying made double copies of all the files and then placed them incorrectly. What it's looking for is the Images directory in the profiles manager path.

I've switch back to Inno Setup and it now installs correctly. If you make a backup copy of your profiles directory (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobylbinprofiles) and uninstall the profiles manager, you can install this new version. Normally I code so you can install new version on top of old versions, but the Clickteam installer kind of messed that up.

To the mods:
Sorry, I hadn't realized that double topics were not made upon creation. I'll go make one now in discussions.

As much as I love this idea, and wanted several profiles, the downside just hit me. Disk space. Each profile is an additional 10 gigs taken up. My game was about 60 gigs big for a little bit. Ouch?

Each word should be at least 3 characters long.
