I recently got to try out the new STEAM patch beta for Half Life. After seeing the pictures of the new TFC map i was amped, plus the reintroduced engies Teleporter. Ive been into TFC almost 3 years now and been playing the engie class for 2 years.
The map Ravelin was very pretty and the telporter fun when just goofing off. Once the server filled the lag was horrid and the map layout was not for team play and the telporter would be useless in matches.
When looking in the TF2 forum on Planet Fortress i saw a thread for STALKER and was hooked. My concern is too much input from Death Mulch players and not enough from aaddicted CTF players will leave your multiplayer mod less than spectactular. I love the screenies way to much to see this happen. Hopefully things like eating and sleeping wont even play a role in a 30 minute match lol. Fluid play is what makes TFC so awesome. Im hoping the same for STALKER.
I went into a forum for this new Half Life mod Operation:Red Falcon. I was blown away by the screenies for that game also. But the mods creator said he hated being lectured and did i know who he was? Im like huh , no i dont know you and none of his maps are being used in any TFC leagues. But thats not even the point i was giving feedback , not insulting in any manner. I had even hoped to have the first ORF ladder up for my new league. But they believed the Half Life death Mulch was more fun (HLDM about 60 servers- TFC about 1,300). God what a waste of awesome potential for the next DoD or NS which are growing but still behind TFC.
So im here to help, offer my input , please dont think im lecturing or putting you guys down. Im taking the time to write this cause i cant wait to try the game.
well... im pretty sure this game will have vanilla DM, TDM, and CTF at LEAST...
the DM TDM CTF maps will all probably be smaller maps (average size we're used to playing)
cooperative online play has also been mentioned (playing through the whole game online with friends)
i bet theyll also implement a counter-strike-ish gametype with an objective to complete (or kill off all foes)
now... the big questions are... what are their new gametypes? do they have plans to open up the entire zone in a massively multiplayer-like experience? where the battle is constantly raging at all times, where the needs for food and sleep come into play... where you can save a character and your equipment... join clans... own territory
from what it sounds like... they want the online component of this game to shine as well as the singleplayer. the game is REALLY ambitious though... and doing all of this stuff takes a LOT of work... i wont be surprised if they have to drop a feature or planned gametype here and there to make their deadline and to get the game finished
the singleplayer part of the game is key... but the vanilla multiplayer will make it live on (dm/ctf).... but in order to compete with other(more popular) games.... theyre going to have to offer something new in order to stand out... a great new gametype thats VERY polished and very addicting... with dm/ctf/tdm being fast-paced and typically more FPS-oriented... id REALLY love to see a more RPG-based massively multiplayer option... diablo meets doom
Ohh i was so thinking the multi player would be TFC/CS oriented. I forgot about the other kind like Everquest. Hrmm. Well this is selfish on my part but i hope they go the Half Life route lol. If they do I'd glady buy the CD for both the Single Player mission, I mean Half Life got me so amped. Im hoping that they go with TFC style of online so its what TF2 coulda became if it was ever released.
I mean maybe they will have all three versions of online:
(SM) Stalker Missions - Online multiplayer like Counter-strike
or (STO) Stalker:TheObjektiv
(SW) Stalker Wars - Online Multiplayer like TFC
(SOL) Stalker: Oblivion Lost - Single Player
(SJ2C) Stalker:Journey 2 Chernobyl- Online multiplayer like Everquest
or (StW) Stalker:The Wastelands
---QUOTATION--- now... the big questions are... what are their new gametypes? do they have plans to open up the entire zone in a massively multiplayer-like experience? where the battle is constantly raging at all times, where the needs for food and sleep come into play... where you can save a character and your equipment... join clans... own territory ---END QUOTATION---
I think MP is still pretty much in the making and we get some info later on. As you said it
OK thanks for the feedback guys. If you get closer to releasing some online multiplayer version, i know all (or know of them) the top TFC Map Makers and could steer you guys to them. Also one of the things that made Half Life number one ( at least i think it still is in multiplayer) is opening worldcraft to map developers and mod makers.
From what i gather the MP is still aways off, but if you go the route of TFC and want a version like that as an add on to future sales of SOL like Sierra added on TFC to HL. Then let me know, id help in anway possible as this game looks incredible.
Hrmm maybe a underground HL Stalker mod could be started using Stalker skins and textures and skybrushes on the Half Life engie : )
