I for one, would find out where the impostor lives and wait for him in a window opposite of his room with a .50 cal. sniper rifle.

This is a real problem in the literary contest, people impersonating other people, therefore turning them against each other. The rating system is extremely flawed, people can just change their name and re-register. If you want a good example, read the comment section of CrystallineSiblings in the Literary Contest.

I'd recommend just ignoring them, since they can't really do anything to you. As long as your writing style, tone and attitude remain the same with your other posts it's easy to tell when someone is impersonating you.

They could just not allow people from seperate IPs to post under the same name, or link a name with a forum registered name. Although I don't see how it's a big problem anyway - since the fallacies in voting are far more problematic than the abusive comments (that seem especially problematic in my story's comments...5 are actually helpful and then it's "russians suck" "no they don't" "they have the mob!" etc. Pffft, no one in my story is even Russian (suffice it to say 'cock' is mentioned numerous times thereafter).

Although I think that started because someone was comparing it to the top rated story on the Russian page - whose author is vyashleslev romanchenko or something. I'd rather they left actual criticisms or just favorite or worst parts or something. I'd take amoki's explanative 6 over someones "OMG Russian's suck!" randomly voted 9.

I also find it funny that no one bothers scrolling down to vote on the other stories (like the one with 11 votes) although they're about 1/20th the length of mine.

There's also the whole "My story is split into 5 billion parts - so it can get voted on numerous times"-thing, which is stupid. I could have posted mine in seperate parts - and if you read it, you'll know where they are...but it's just idiotic to have 6 parts of one story all voted on seperately...

But that's getting off track.

Anyway, personally, I'd grab their name and then see what I can do about voiding their SSN in the US. Otherwise they're too far away and it's too much work .

Pretty smart way of thinking, but I prefer the good ol' fashioned way. Tracking them down, putting their eyes on skewers after decapitating then, then putting meathooks into their spinal column and hanging his corpse from by balcony, then tossing his genitals onto the street and watch the stray dogs gobble them up.

Hehe, I assume that comment's directed at me. Let me explain a bit:

I posted my story up in the forum as seperate parts so I could get comments on each part. However, I expected GSC to post it up as a single story. Nope. There was actually some confusion in my comments section as to how the votes would be counted for a multi-part story. Really, I don't care about the votes, I just read the comments.

Yeah, I like to read the comments too. It is really hard to do that because you don't know who is really who. I am really interested as to what Amoki will do if he catches someone imperdsonating him and making another enemy. I hope it's bloody

Yeah, that is pretty logical. the whole point of this thread is to think of something bloody and violent!! Come on, I already know most of the stuff mentioned before, please try fantasizing about murdering the stupid prick! One less abuser of the system is one more chance for the game to become successful. Think like that!!

I was thinking of making a comment, but when I thought about it, it seemed that fantasizing about a way to murder (or otherwise maim and humiliate) someone would be a really good way to get banned, so I decided not to.

That's the difference between the good guys and the bad guys. You can say anything you like and do anything you like under the guise of someone else's name; but if you want to be the good guys, have a reputation and have the respect of others you remain tact to others

I don't impersonate people, I just wanna hear people's rants/ideas about how to fix the commenting system. At first, I wanted to hear what people would do do someone that impersonated them, like punish them in some way. Problem is, that is te surest path to getting banned.

You don't get banned for freedom of speech, or submitting your opinion on a problem that GSC already knows, but takes no action. You get banned when you 1) Explicit use of offensive language directed at other forum members and 2) has no reserve over your actions in your forum activity (i.e don't respect moderators and oter forum members)

What I used to find the most frustrating is that a google of my name (Timothy Croker) used to turn up a fradulent comment made in my name as the first entry. At least now at least the only way to google those messages is by viewing all google results for the site.

It's still bad that my name appears so high on google for such crap

Well, backing away from the 'I'll kill a man for 50 euros!' line of thought...

I think a more significant way of verifying which posts are really you, and which aren't I'd suggest creating a thread for valid responses in here, that way, if someone wants to make sure it's a legitimate post they can look on here for a quote/summary, and since you need to logon here with your name it would be far less fraudulent.

*sigh* Not much changed I see. The good guys are still outnumbered by the hordes of the small-minded. I’ve been skimming through the comments of the fanfic section on the STALKER website *shudders* and the crap is seeping in here as well, the last sanctuary.

For me, I’ve given up on this whole contest. The rating was already flawed, now the comments are equally abused. Respect for the guys who keep up the good fight!

It’s been fun writing my own story. Actually, my story was more of an experiment and I never really entered it to win as much as I wanted to see how other would react to it. But now I see its far better to come up with you own, original thing then to live off somebody elses creations. So now I’m directing all my energy into my very own universe building project.

Should I ever make it into a real succes somehow, I hope I’ll be able to attract some of the fine talents that I have seen here. For the others, well, I thought of giving one final little flame. But what's the use? Some people simply cannot learn, they are their own problem.

No worries, Goodspeed- the black sheep *you know who you are* has been checked and nudged by the moderating group. Shall he cause any more trouble and spam some more...

I can't really control the spam as it is related to the ongoing topic I cannot avoid going into dictatorship and have things go according to my will. But it's all good.

Glad to see you're alive mate, I think you have arrived just in time for the airshow. Negotiation with GSC on the new system will be carried out within this two weeks right after the wee folks are back from RGD, fully rested and well-fed. I am the (only) representative for the literary contest community, [That's why I have been nudging GrislySilence to get ICQ for quite a while now ] and what I am fighting for is a 70-member jury system. Don't worry: everything should meet some change soon for the best.

If you want to know- Ian_C is finally working hard on his book now. Quite interesting book he is writing I'll say, but it has been quite a while since we've made contact.

And where's my review for Fallen, Goodspeed ?

First off, who is the black sheep? Me or Justin? Bcuz I didn't flood intentionally, just wanted to bring some humor into this stone-cold place. Just curious, Amoki, do you want to see the fixed version of The Line Between Humanity and Inhumanity? I am trying to perfect my writing skills before I finally start my new video game in 2007. My brother-in-law is used to work with Sony Imageworks and is now in Insomniac [the company, not the show, although Dave Attel RULES!!] the company that made the Ratchet and Clank series. I doubt they will release an M-rated game though. So I am planning to write another fanfic in the near future about Stalker, tell me if you want me to send it to you, or just keep it for myself. Thanks dude.

P.S. The literary contest, while flawed, is a great idea and a very nice way to get the fans to participate on the developemant of the game. And I will also be deleting my messages that I think shouldn't be here.

What? Your brother work for a game company? That is too far fatch for me, unless you are able to prove it.

And however stone cold this place may be, I cannot open any room for spam. Even if you are to bring in some life. This part of the forum has gone cold because GSC closed the contest and kill any possibility of submitting any more work. Even so however, I am working on convinving them to reopen the contest

Well, he used to be an animation supervisor at Sony. He worked on Starship Troopers [the movie] and Full Spectrum Warrior. He moved out of Sony and is now at Insomniac. Right now, I am in Moscow and he is in LA. I am trying to get a visa so I can go back to America. And if you don't believe me, that's your problem. You'll see when the game comes out in a few years. He is not my brother, he is my brother-IN-LAW.

You also did not answer my question. DO you want to see the fixed version of my story? Also, do you want to see any new stories in the near future? I will submit two months from now, and I will use all the advice you and everyone gave me Thanks for the help, by the way. As you can see, I am keeping everything legit this time, please forgive me.

All right. Your sister knows how to find a husband .

Personally? No. I have a lot of things to do, I am a Uni students who is taking anything but economy studies.

However, you should really avoid the "writing for your fans" attitude. Try going for quality, write a story that isnt' just pure action but involves a little side of humanity. Besides, the next time I meet Oleg Yavorsky I am asking to have the contest re-opened, so by the time you have finished your work you *might* get in the contest for a free shot at the game

BTW - try avoiding Linkin' Park music while you're trying to write. I know I have nothing to do with your taste, but part of using music in influencing your writing is choosing the right song... and this normally means the background music. In nearly all Linkin' Park songs the vocal dominates the background music, and you are more likely to be both distracted and put off by the music. That guy shouts rather than sings, and the content of the song is more likely to put you off into a frustrated mood. No one writes fanfic (a very frustrating hobby if you really strive to be the best) when they feel frustrated.

Instead, try something like the Russian Navy Hymn (yes, the track from "The Hunt from the Red October" by the Red Army Choir", say, in your next story about a Russian soldier or something. IT'll help immensely, instead of having "I've become so numb" banging in your head while you're trying to write down something.

Well Amoki, I can see that you are not a Linkin Park fan. Primarily bcuz Cure for the Itch has NO lyrics, and Plce 4 my hd [ending] barely has any. I chose those songs because they fit the atmosphere. Also, Crlwlng barely has any lyrics also. Well, I know that I obviously have no fans and I didn't mean for it to come out like that. Well, that's all...I think.

Well, after taking a break from Stalker (largely cos they dropped Co-op, but lets not go there again) I stumbled upon the page again today.
I was pleasantly surprised to find my story back in the top ten (yes I know the system is pish and no real indication of skill, but hey, I can be shallow when I want to be).
Anyhoo, I was even more surprised and, frankly, amused to see that I've been acused of being no less than 3 other people while I've been away.
Yes, there was a moment of anger, but that quickly passed.
I actually feel a little more sorry for the guy who was throwing the acusation, as opposed to Red, Monkey and....the other ones.

That said, it'd be nice if this forum had a user search (or does it, and I just can't find it). I'd like to see what 'I've' been saying.

No one has been using your nick. The problem is, that person who made that "accusation" did raise a good point - no one seemed to comment on your story, which also indicates that no one bothered to read your story. But for some queer reasons you are still on the top. As for those individuals he mentioned... well, they are notorious no-name-faces who merely attack authors based on their language skills instead of thier plots/stories' overview quality. I enjoyed, first hand, of their brute. Wonder how come someone else could have noticed my plight

Compare your story to the more recently posted ones and you'll see the point I am making.

Ultimately, I don't care where my story is or how it's rating stands with other people (unless it's someone I respect who's making the comments, but this is the internet). I'm just glad I wrote it.

People who impersinate somone else on the literary contest should be shot. I wonder if somone can come up with a way of stopping it. i have an idea though its not very good. i think that if you have a system that stops people putting in a name that is already in use it could stop a lot of problems. well thats my idea anyway.
