Judging by the screenshots, vanilla LA looks a lot better. Especially if you take into consideration that you use DX10. I don't know whether it's your SweetFX or the base texture choice, but the scenery during the morning reveals too strange saturation, lightning and far too much sharpening. This leads to a pretty much strange visual experience.

Take a look at this picture http://oi62.tinypic.com/1550wzn.jpg of yours:
-> kamish nearly glows
-> tree leaves at the foreground tree too illuminated, sharpened and grainy
-> tree bark of the blank one strangely saturated and too sharpend / grainy as well
-> transition between lighted and shadowed areas to crass (even a problem with the vanilla game)

Here a similar picture with the same elements taken at the same ingame time, but without any mods: http://abload.de/img/2bp1sur.jpg . I think I might have edited same console settings.

That's the sweetFX, with the color correction and sharpening... A matter of taste mostly, I think it looks quite nice, and very crisp!

I might mess around with it later to see what kind of different shading I can get it to apply, and I might even post the sFX config file (if Don aproves, of course).

BTW Don, I can't seem to be able to use Dx10 rendering with sweetfx enabled (can only select dx9)... Windows 8 issue, perhaps?

*Kamish glows because the one i use is made to mitigate the problem of hard edges, unfortuneately that means adding blurry edges that glow with bloom, its still better than vanilla which has hard edges.

*Trees have light shine upon them that immideatly makes detail texture looks pixely. Its better than vanilla but game can't handle insane detail it makes it grainy instead. Its a wierd shader problem with vanilla game even. Don't know how to fix, i dont want to go back to worse textures.

*Remember most of the "too sharpened problem" problem for you excists even in the vanilla game. Its masked by shitty shadering that blends stuff together giving game sort of creamy feeling when u look around. No idea how they achieved that, i got dig around shaders more to mimic it in my shaders.

*Last one can't really be fixed unless you want rewrite the entire lighting engine. And no SweetFX doesn't adopt to anything really. Perhaps when an i get some ENBSeries working with STALKER i can use its features to make sure transition is correct. This can be done on driver level.

he is right don, they look dark to me as well just by looking at your screenshots.

Well too bad, perhaps i should up their brightness and ruin the textures.

Rise your brightness ingame to compensate.

I'm not going to batch convert 1000 textures into certain lighting level. These comes from various mods. Infact i think vanilla suffers from make everything grey and dont make any textures atmospheric problem. Like they are from stock textures.

yeh win8 and sweetfx don't mix, efx+sweetfx might work but it doesn't work on Windows 7, so i chose to support win7 over 8 since that what i am and majority is using.

What you could do is try to find efx+sweetfx combo that works you. Then add my SweetFX_Settings.txt file to it. Maybe then it works with DX10.

Thanks, i'll try that! If I can't get it to work it's time to dual boot into Win 7 and play from there (Never install evil windows 8 without a backup plan, heh)

Edit: ENB would be great, even though I probably couldn't run it on my current system (massive, massive performance hog most of the time... And my system sucks, too, so there's that).

But man, does it make stuff look nice when it's properly configured, remember GTA IV?

You should be able to up overall ambient light by using some console (or user.ltx, if you prefer) commands. ThaOneDon even has them listed on his texthost.

My sky for example is way too bright, like ablinding light. A few nudges with those commands makes it pretty darn good.

---END QUOTATION---

The sky too bright problem is only on DX9. On DX10 the default tonemap_middlegray 0.9 value (which directly this brightness) works just fine. I still have reduced it a bit (to 0.8) but I didn't find it technically wrong, it looks awesome on DX10 renderer as it is by default. On DX9 indeed it looks insanely bright, like the clouds and everything on the sky is being "melted" by the power of the sun, you can barely noticed anything else on the sky than just bright white.

Hmm, strange, I downloaded and used your shaders (copied only the gamedata/shaders directory) and I feel that your shaders are the ones that give the image a bit more milky look. It's nothing wrong, I actually like it (reminds me of the LURK shaders, which probably I should try them on LA but I'm using DX10 so their DX9 shaders probably won't work). Original LA shaders seem to make the image very clear (especially at noon gametime), while your shaders (for DX10) add a very subtle fog to the overall image. That's my feeling anyway, I only used them for an hour or so last night, I'll have to go back and forth with your and vanilla LA shaders and settle one which one I like most.

But some things are just bad textures right? (I'm talking about vanilla LA now). For example, in the Dark Valley, the bridge on the road that leads to the barn, if you go there at any time during the day, the bridge is just very white compared to everything else. What's worse, the transition between the bridge edge/end and the road/ground is completely sudden. I can take a screenshot easily if anyone wants to look at it but I think this should be fixable with a texture, instead of lighting engine logic changes.
