Ohhh, okay thanks. I'm not too savvy on how each file and program works in a game. Took computer programming in highschool...hated every minute of it, got my B and left it at that. lol, so if I ask dumb questions I apologize.

and I agree with you, and I do hope they add a patch or several patches where it's free roaming and has all the orgininal stuff that was promised. Also, it would be in the companies best interest to do so also, because if they don't fix things up or put in what was originally promised people will be much more hesitant in buying any other games from them, I for one will not buy an Expansion pack that adds in all the stuff that was promised...although it would be cool, it would not be fair for the customer to have to buy the original game and then spend 30 more dollars on an Expansion to get what should have been in the original. So, I think it would be best for more things to be fixed/added especially the map for both the players and for the company so people will enjoy and continue buying their products.

now im no business major, but thats just my little theory.

but it does look like the area that was not fenced in was originally going to be used in the game I checked just before posting this....so if they could just add more buildings camps bases etc in those areas and take out the fences things would be better.

but I definately do want a radiation treatment camp lol, where scientists take in sick stalkers, soldiers, etc....kind of like a UN refugee camp but without the UN, otherwise nothing would be done about the sick stalkers lol. and every now and then some stalker on his death bed could turn into a zombie and attack lol. I think that would be cool, have treatment rooms, labs, quarantines *SP?*, medical tents, etc etc! lol

I think one of the main reasons why they chopped the zone up, was after a few years, the graphics seemed out dated and they upgraded them. Because we all know, at least those that have been watching the game. It didn't look like this when it was first showcased. It looked like it does when stalker is in static lighting mode now almost.

I'm assuming that these graphical upgrades caused tension with massive zones, and in trying to get everything else finished they may have just jumped ship on optimizing the engine to seamlessly load one huge zone.

Another reason I heard they may have chopped it up so much was because the AI was not working well w/ the massive zone. But again I haven't heard any official reason why. Just opinions and speculation.

I would love to see the world put together as one again. With more fields, and open areas in each zone, you take the first zone for example. We all know how narrow that zone is, imagine when the whole game world is combined as one, making that wider and expansive to join everything thing together. Man.. how amazing that would be .

well im wondering, if they fixed the map and made it one huge zone like that...how much problems would it cause for people with lower end PC's? if they completely redid it like they originally planned would it cause any problems for people with lower end PC's? Or would they make it like oblivion where ever 10 feet it loads everything in?

i seriously doubt the game was ever one huge zone but i do believe that the individual zones we see today were once much larger. as you saw in the earlier post the actual barkeep map encompasses both the barkeep and the merc base but only about 20% of the map is accessible to the player, so why did GSC decide to chop so much out?

what i think is that GSC wanted to stuff more action into smaller areas and thus cut out possibly 40% of what couldve existed, so they can release it on time.

somewhere in development there mustve been a massive screwup in terms of resource handling because as good as stalker is, that definately isnt 6 years of work. even oblivion's development time was shorter and it has so much more content.

I've followed the development of this game since it was announced as 'STALKER: Oblivion lost'. It was set out has being 30sq Kils with Chernobyl being in the Centre (YUP! the key word Centre...), it was also boasted that the game would (although having a main story line) be non-linear....

Don't get me wrong the real world dynamics and physics, game play etc.. are superb.. but I do think it's a little linear. Not as linear as Doom3 or Fear etc.... but it's still linear.

I'm assuming more will open up with patches or Expansions etc...

Plus more MP game types.....

I guess the publisher got nervous at some point and sent in his troops
to set new dev-prioritys (DX9-GFX and a more conventional gameplay that was earlier to realize).

well even as small as the map is now..even though they are all seperate zones, there isn't a ton of action in the small maps, not for me anyway..most of my time I go from zone to zone and only get attacked or shot at once or twice. =(

I very much doubt they will drastically change the maps with patches. The game is out now, and such a massive change would require a lot more work than you think. Besides, I doubt they'd get funding for it (Publishers are like that).

I'd rather see more areas opened up with a expansion pack, with more camps, buildings and missions along with a slew of bug fixes and maybe some new features. There are quite a few of areas on the map that look like they were once going to be used, but now are just blurred out.

Hopefully (and with a lot of pressure and support from fans) we'll see a more open ended game with the sequel.

There was also an article a while back about how the Devs were having trouble implementing the roving npcs from area to area and how they were going to have to cut back in certain areas. If I can find it again it would probably be a very interesting read.

See, thats what I think..it's too late to fix it all now...I was hoping maybe they would find a way but I sort of doubt it.

the thing with the expansion pack idea, is that...as it is STALKER cost me 40 dollars..then I assume the expansion would be say...30?

I don't like the idea of spending a total of 70 dollars to get everything that should have and was promised in the original copy..you know?

but I shall see, if theres a 100% promise that all the original content/free roaming map..etc are included in an expansion I would probably buy it anyway lol
