Which NS mod is best?

I'm thinking about trying out this mega mod for Stalker but I don't know which version I should get? There are some compilations by Achillesdave and Boutch71, and there is Stalkersoup by Tecnobacon, and now new Joint Pak 2 also seems to be available in English.

Would somebody tell me please which mod is most stable and polished, and offers best quality in general?

Well, Stalkersoup is still undergoing testing and constant updates, so that counts that out.

I know that NS Joint Pak 1 is okay, unless you're on a 7 to 8 years old machine, in which case loading times between maps are several minutes long and the most common CTD is an Out of Memory - just reload, but they do happen quite often. Sometimes they lock up the entire machine and hitting the restart button to reboot is the only way out.

Haven't tried Joint Pack 2, but as it has even more content I would think loading times would be even longer and OOM CTDs a lot more common - maybe if I was younger, but I'm almost 53 and doubt I'd get through one game before retirement age.

They are all pretty good but try the basic NS first if you want. Here is achillesdaves NS 19.04 14.08 03.09 that is easy to install.

So far for me, Joint Pack 2 is most stable and optimized and I salute the brave souls who are continuously providing the translated updates.

That said, I find the translation confusing and I don't like trawling the Russian sites for clarification but this great mod makes it worth while.

NS problems

To be honest the most stable mod i played so far is Priboi.
The NS derivates i know suffer from instabilities after a couple dozen
hours into the game,which is imho VERY frustrating.
It mostly happens beyond the bar level that the poo hits the fan so to
speak. Exept for stalkersoup in which that can happen at every moment
from second one on.
The weird thing is,that occasionaly you can play just fine for hours and hours
and it all runs smoothly while another time you run into a wall of bugs all of sudden.

DMX mod.

Stalkersoup is an attempt to remake this, I guess, but I have very little idea what the hell is going on with it since DMX is far, far more stable than Stalkersoup ever has been.

Thank you all for your response. Looks like every NS mod except for Stalkersoup has some good points. But could somebody tell me please what is difference between Achillesdave's NS Joint Pak and Boutch71's DMX?

DMX is an addon to NS, but also includes the required NS version for it to function correctly.

DMX is basically largely the same as Stalkersoup (Stalkersoup is built on this, I guess) but while Stalkersoup has its own goals, DMX is basically where it wants to be.

DMX adds a whole new storyline running parallel to the main one, in addition to other neat things like extra cars, new functions, a functioning keylogger (to allow custom bindings etc.) and other neat things.

Basically I'd opt for DMX over Stalkersoup. The good thing is that the Stalkersoup translation should work perfectly fine for DMX since they're both largely the same.

OK, I got NS Joint Pak by Achillesdave since I had no problems with downloading it. Too bad I couldn't find working links for Boutch71's DMX mod

But I think Joint Pak will give me a couple of months of nice gameplay now

Also, for anyone interested in the history of NS mod branches and stalkersoup, DKS was originally gonna help out a bit with stalkersoup, but tecnobacon ended up skivving him off and they broke ways. There was some open drama on the stalkersoup steam thread, and DKS was kind enough to explain over PM what had happened, a couple years ago,

Oh, he definitely believes this thing to be HIS, and HIS alone .. he is somehow under the delusion that HE created it ..

The truth of the matter is ..

Back in 2009, I was studying Video Game Design in Toronto, Canada .. and was looking for a Game that I could use as a Guinea Pig of sorts for my ideas, and to practice on working with texturing, UV mapping, etc. etc.

I chose Narodnaya Solyanka .. because of the 'technical' challenges it presented, and also it looked appealing to a HUGE s.t.a.l.k.e.r. fan such as myself ...

Then I found out about the DMX Expansion option .. which was at version 1.31 at the time, and also which only seemed to be working for Russian versions of the game due to incompatibilities, cyrrilics in the code, etc. etc. ...

Well, I like a challenge, and since I wanted to use this thing for school, I decided to give it a go .. try to get them merged, and working together, and in a somewhat understandable form that English Players could actually Play the NS/DMX combimation

It worked .. and that was dkz-01

During the course of my school year, I continued to work on improving the graphics, gameplay, stability, and of course, the translation .. because, before then .. there was none to speak of in terms of the DMX added content

In January 2010, I re-released it as dkz-02 .. which, for all intents and purposes worked rather well ... it demanded a powerful computer to run because of all the High-Res textures I added to the mix, but people were playing it .. enjoying it .. and finishing it ..

After I finished school, I moved back to the East Coast and started working as a Sound Designer in the Video Game Industry, as well as a Live Sound Engineer for a local Company

I found myself with little time to spare, so I had to shelve plans for what was to become DKZ-03 temporarily, or until I had the time to dedicate to the Project ..

Enter tecnobacon ..

Right around this time .. TB came along, and without contacting me in any way, shape, or form .. took dkz-02, and started manipulating things into what he is now calling stalkersoup, which, to be honest .. is a horrible name .. it makes me think of a dog vomitting or something ... lol ... I digress

When he updated to DMX 1.3.4 .. he simply 'lumped' it over-top of dkz-02, and then tweaked it to make it work ... MUCH of the translation, and customization work that had gone into dkz-02 was LOST ... and anything that did survive no longer makes sense

This is why you have three different textures showing up for certain items .. [*100rads energy drink] for example, which I created, and gave unique attributes to .. although I fixed the texture for it once already, I see that he's reverted back to the 'broken' Inventory that sports the wrong icons ..

There are several inconsistencies such as this still plaguing the Mod to this day .. even a year later .. such simple things have never been addressed .. the reason being .. because he doesn't even know that they are messed up .. because he doesn't pay attention to details .. that much is obvious ..

Many of the 'unique' weapons I created for the Mod are still being used as well, although as you experienced yourself, they have been 'ganked' in one way or another through plain and simple negligence

The 'Necro' is still unfixed by the way .. even after you reported it before 1.0.9.7


He's added some elements from other's Mods as well ... ZRP, OGSE, AMK, etc. ... and since he never contacted myself to inform, or ask me about using my content within his 'version' ... I'm quite certain that he did not extend that 'professional' courtesy to the Authors of those Projects either ...


At this point .. I really don't care

He is what he is .. and that much has become obvious through his actions, or in many cases lack thereof ...

His delusional sense that this is the be-all-end-all of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods is amusing to say the least .. I never felt that dkz-02 was complete in any way .. and made no excuses about it, nor did I blame Players for modding it ... that's what a Mod is for!!!

He talks about being so close to 'releasing' the Mod ... I don't understand that ... this Mod has been around since 2008 ... when it was Released by Arhara .. who created it

If he thinks this broken piece of a joke is anywhere close to being a 'finished' Mod .. he's even more fecked in the head than I thought .. and if he 'releases' it this way .. which is rather silly, since he 'released' it long ago when he made it publicly available in the first place ( he doesn't seem to grasp that ) ...

He keeps calling this a BETA

it's not ..

This is very much an ALPHA

and one he didn't create ... he merely manipulates .. and then tries to claim 'ownership' to it ..

I don't own this .. neither does he .. neither do you ... we ALL do .. it's a project that belongs to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. community ... which is how it started .. and how it should remain ...
