shooting distance in the game

ok here is my question, what will be the in game shotting distance with say a sniper rifle? any of them available. and what will be the veiwing distance in the game?

it would be cool if bullets actually had velocities and mass in the game and would be affected by forces (such as gravity, like in Delta Force and other such games)

i loved delta force land warrior. shooting at 900 meters and killing someone was so much fun. matter of fact that is my favorite sniper game of all time. i hope you can at least see up to 500 meters allowing for weather.

I hope, on those long shots you can actually see the round travel down range. That is always an interesting sight.

In a game where your resolution is 1024x768, your unzoomed accurate range is like 128 meters ingame. This is a point at which the man you are aiming for is like 2 pixels high. So your crosshair is actually to big for accurate aiming after a certain distance.

This doesn't mean your game weapon is inaccurate after 128 meters, real statistics for weapons are constantly used in games. As well as zooming 2x, 5 x and 10x which gets you a bigger view of something further then 128m. People with higher res actually have a better non-zoomed accurate distance, but don't tell anyone, its a secret.

Thank the maker for Zoom huh.

What I would like to see is the bullets actualy getting effected by more then just gravity (Which in itself is a wonderful way to balance sniping at a long distance). Inertia for example, it would be wonderful if a 9mm bullet can not kill someone at half a kilometer away, seen that happen in games, and even at 50 meters its slowing down enough that it does less penatration, harder to go through armor, less damage when it does.

Wasn't it this game that was going to have change in velocity/momentum for penetrations or was that HL2??

Can't think of why a physics engine wouldn't allow it, maybe only if it was against fair play???

I've oftern thought about wind effects but it might be to hard to put in, not physics wise but becouse humans judge wind by touch. If there was some way to show, not so accuratly, the dirrection and strangth of the wind then it could be possable.

Perhaps you could make the wind visible by the way the grass moves. (may take a lot of processor power but it IS possible)

well the wind should effect the bullet at long distances. i think delta force had that option, you could turn it on or off. personaly i liked how they handled the viewing in delta force also just a little arrow showing what way it was blowing and what MPH. it takes some getting use to, to figure out how much lead you need when the wind is gusting. also i hate when i kill some one at 250 meters with a pistol, it isnt right, has any one ever deer hunted or beer hunted with a pistol? i have i shot a deer at 30 yards wich is 90 feet(sorry dont know how to convert meters, if someone knows please tell) and it didnt drop it, and it was a heart shot.
