Respawning NPCs?

Let's say the player kills the guards at the entrance to the Zone, will there be new soldiers there when he returns?

My thought: Of course, the Army has plenty of soldiers, if someone dies, will be replaced

With 200 od stalkers and other NPCs comming and going from the zone there should be 'respawning' NPCs. They shouldn't just appear, but I guess if your not there to see it then who cares if they do just appear.

Still can the bodies in those locations be removed when the people 'respawn' becouse it would look unrealistic that two milatary grunts die and when the next shift turns up they would just leave the bodies there.

Corpses and carcasses will slowly undergo degradation.

F A Q
Q: If I kill all mutants on the level what is going to happen when I return to that level in a while?
A: In a certain random period of time migrating mutants will settle on the level having picked favorable territories.

Q: If the player kills some stalker (1 out of 100), will there be a new stalker respawned to keep up the total number of NPCs in the Zone?
A: No, the number of stalkers in the Zone will vary depending on mortality and newbie arrival. At a certain point there can be 70 stalkers, and at some point there can be 120.

That is fine for animals monsters and the average stalker. But a member of the same Stalker faction that runs across a fallen comrade or a Military patrol that comes apon their own dead isn't just going to leave them there to rot if they arne't under duress and can do something about it.

I believe that certain NPC's should respawn, others shouldn't. Most enemies should generally respawn. If a soldier is killed at a post, he should respawn there after a while. Or even better, he can respawn somewhere on the map and drive to the post. Monsters should respawn based on monster population.

But lets say you kill the dealer (if you can) I don't think HE should respawn. But this doesn't mean your out of work, there should be other Dealers, and they should come and go.

People that have identities and people you know obviously shouldn't respawn. ("Oh, hey vladimir, i thought you died when i shot you in the head with a .50 anti tank rifle, oh well"

BTW, for some reason there's a happy face with glasses where my paranthese is supposed to be. Just so you know, im not happy, and i dont wear glasses, and i also dont consider myself to be cool.

Respawn/Response

The ideal respawn system would have people delivered from off the playable map, either by UAV or Truck or just on foot. Of course, managing it so that the player can be held inside the playable area while still allowing NPCs believable access to the Zone could be a small chore.

You could always have men in white suits and ambulances take away corpses from areas where they shouldn't decay.

Course, if I were the developers I would just stick with people fading into existence and corpses disappearing when you aren't looking. I'm just that lazy.

Edit: Responce vs. Response, ah, I can't tell.

And the important thing isn't that your lazy, SO IS YOUR COMPUTER!!! I agree with you, most of the time they should just fade in and out of existence, but only if your a good distance away.
