time in game and that 30km(2) stuff

OK, many people have told to me that the game land in STALKER is 30km(2) but i can't understand that:

how is time in STALKER, normally it's one hour in real time = 1 day in game, but in STALKER 1m = 1m and if u walk 1 km it's in real world 1 km too. But if u walk 1 kilometers in real world with about 10 minutes then in game it's not 10 min, or not?
when the time is same as real world then it's all right, but when it isn's, what then???

I don't necessarily see a problem there.

The compressed time will most likely only effect the day/night cycle.

Just imagine Earth spinning 24 times as fast. It wouldn't change your walking speed, or distances, or anything like that. The only effect would be how long the day is. (Apart from perhaps some gravitational issues...)

Alot of games are done like this. The switch between night and day is a dramatic effect in alot of games, and adds some excitement.

Anyways, the best thing about games is that you can escape from reality and live a life that would be next to impossible for most of us to accomplish in reality. So I dunno I dont think it will ruin gameplay or anything unless people have become completely anal. Besides this game seems to have a rather creepy quality to it, and this way you dont have to wait as long to soil your pants in the anticipation of some night dwelling monster to come and rip you into pieces.

Its not a feature that I am going to like, becouse I beleave there are other ways to force the stalker to wait around and keeping the day/night cycle far better. Time jumping for example, everyone needs to rest and there could be missions that require you wait for night fall or another set time. Shortening the day or night is just going to make it so we have less dark/light to do what we want to do in that light or dark and force us to rush faster through things so we don't lose what little light we have, or get exposed by the dawn.

Creepy =

I took a drive one day. Boxing in 30sq. km with roads. I headed 3.4 miles S and E, (30sq. KM). Then I looked at a map of the area I covered... there were a lot of buildings there, a lot of ground to cover. I didn't walk through the farmer's fields but it was intersting to get a feel for. Then I stopped at a field with tall grass and I noticed how far I could see. Then I was thinking what if there was an object about the size of a dog here, I couldn't see it if it was 30 m from me. So if I were to look for it, it would take days.

I think this game may take a lot longer to fully explore this place than I thought.

Sweet

Interesting point. Lets say you learned of something you need to get. Lets say it's at a place you been before, but is now guarded (maybe plot oriented). You descide to wait till dark. You wait outside till you feel it's clear to go in (thinking it's best not to kill anyone you don't have to). You go in get your "thing". But you spend an hour doing it and you are now stuck walking out the guarded way with the sun comming up. Are you going to sit around for X real time for night to come again? Do you sleep in the guarded area?

You could be stuck in a way. I like the idea of a fast moving sun, but you do have a good point. There may be times where you don't have a choice of when you are in the zone, but since I must assume you live outside the zone.

When you enter it should be up to you and a 'mission' that would take a few hours in real life to do. You should be able to be completed in the day/night without getting caught by the sun.

Yeah, but if someone gets away you may be in for a ton of hurt later in the game, especially if it a military defended objective. Start killing them and you are most likely asking for trouble.

Heh figure of speach. Uh, well uh...... how long is 1 in game day? Probably a couple of hours long. I figure 24 in game hours should take 6 real, that should give everyone enough time for everything.

Then there is also time:

Time is a very useful tool in SP and co-op games to controll the day/night cycle while still keeping it 1:1. You can have missions that require you to be in a location by a set time or require you to wait for someone to return for a few hours. This has more realistic touches to it and helps balance the game out, and even works on Co-op as the whole group can still sleep and rest. The only down side is this can not exist in a 'freeform' server (I have to stop changing the names), where people can form thier own little groups or go it alone even if there is other PC's in the game.

The best way, and I say this always, is to leave the choice in the hands of the server (player if its SP or person starting the server if its co-op). This is the only way to please everyone, make it so they can decide if they want to play in real time or some accelerated time.
