Man, that's a lot of posts. Just in case someone hasn't already suggested it, will there be some sort of Flame Thrower? I was reading about the super rat hoards and it got me thinking.

Yeah, it's in there (the thread). But to be any use they are pretty heavy. WWII style would put you at your load limit. I haven't seen much along the lines of modern flame throwers....there might be a new technology they game comes up with to make it reasonable to carry one along with other equipment.

Loved the Alien weapons. Not sure if the movie's were reasonable or not. They didn't seem to last long (which seems reasonable)...curious why they had them. Hmmmm.

Which AK's

I want to know if the will state the country that the AK's come from.

This is very important as the 'real' Kalashnikov from russia were rock solid, full on bullit proof. But since then many companys have made their own rip off of the rifle and are of far lower standard, cheap build.
Those made in Russia and Israel were good but the ones from the former Yugoslavia were not so, the majority of the AK's in the world are the cheap ones but with chernobyl being in Russia/Ukraine there could be many good ones, maybe in the hands of the army.

If flame throwers are included in the game, It would be nice if the player that had the flamer carried tanks of liquid fuel on their back. During play (MP especially) the flame thrower operator would be dangerous in close quarters but vunerable to attack from long range. The tanks of fuel on their back would be a target and if hit, would blow. Spreading burning fuel all around cooking the very person who was trying get you. Cool eh?

Oh yeah and your right, the ALIEN weapons were da bomb.

Nice for target practice, not so nice for the guy with the flame thrower. I don't think the weapon would be too popular with such a big achillies heel.

Short range, yeah, but not as short as you may think. I've seen footage of flamethrowers in action and they seem to have a decent reach. They were developed to clear out pillboxes, etc, and it would have been a shame to have to have to be inside the pillbox to burn the germans inside (I dunno wtf is wrong with the server that this image is on but I think it's worth the wait:

Due to the danger of carrying them, though, the military developed incendiary grenades to replace the flamethrower. I think they may have still had flamethrowers in korea, but they were certainly using the incendiary grenades in vietnam to clear out tunnels, etc.

Then you have the Spas... its a french weapon, so europe... not that bad atleast its not australia or america. Down side though is its an expencive item... hence it won't find its way to the povity states of russia. It could be found in game but I would say once in a blue moon and no more then 3 of them in the whole game. Brought there by a french merc. that liked the gun.... hell the only one of them could be in his hands alone and you have to pry it from them if you want it.

Australia dosn't make any guns, the Aus Army uses the styer, it's made in Austria and Austria is about 750 km from Chernobyl. I would much prefer an assault rifle like the styer over a spas or any other shotgun. So the aussie gun could easily find it's way into the zone.

One other thing the SPAS-12 is made in Italy;

the steyr aug is quite a cool gun, i always voted for it...i had my own one while serving in the austrian army, in 1999. it was the one with automatic fire, long rail and the model of 1977 (!) f*ckin old, mate...

and we were driving that vehicle, a Steyr "Pinzgauer", known as one of the best hill crawling vehicles ever made...

Actually we use the F88 Austeyr, manufactured right here in Aus under license by Lithgow I beleive. We also manufactured Lee Enfield rifles throughout both world wars (and the Lithgows are regarded as some of the best quality Enfields) of which i own a 1919 SMLE in mint cond.

But yes it is a european design and in it's original guise is found throughout europe, I'd love to use on in the zone. Though I daresay if I could use a rifle our army has ever used in the zone I'd take an SLR.

SAY, on that note how about they put an FN FAL in? It's another excellent and widespread weapon.
