Artifacts and Anomalies

Or more precisely, Artifacts in Anomalies.

When encountering an artifact in the middle of an anomaly there is a possibility that it can be moved using the never ending supply of Bolts.

Noticed an artifact appearing (being created) at the 'whirligig' in the Cordon. It was at the end of the cut scene with the warning about being careful where you walk.

Walked around the Anomaly and found the Artifact was fairly well centered and not finding close enough approach path. Took a moment to think. The whirligig was lifting the artifact off the ground a little then setting it back down. At best it rose about 12-16 inches, hovered for a few seconds and dropped to the ground a the anomalies energy ebbed.

Picked a point around the artifact to aim at and through bolts at it each time it was lifted even slightly. Took a while to lock down the aim but once doing so, was able to strike the artifact and push it to the side of the anomaly. It took a while, about +-50 bolt throws, to push the artifact out of range of the anomaly. At that point, walked around to the side where it had exited and picked it up.

Knowing this needed to be tested more than just once, did a restore to the last quick save re-ran to the point just before the tutorial started (because the artifact is created at the end of the cut scene). There, another quick save was done. Now had an anchor point to quickly loop through the testing process.

Restored the game to the quick save and the second time through succeeded sooner but with one major difference.

The first artifact was a minor item, can't remember precisely what it was other than it being a brown rock with somewhat ragged edges. Pretty much a 'meh' item this early in the run.

Second time, the artifact generated was a 'Giblets'. Giblets have a +15 Radiation protection.

After just waking up, going on a simple retrieval mission, (with two side missions acquired en-route), watching the Anomaly tutorial twice. Then playing around for 30-40 minutes running through the testing a couple of times. Now have an artifact that bumps up radiation protection by 15.

Tested this again in the tunnel with the Zombies. On the flat deck with a dead Zombie on it, was able to move it slightly. Maybe a grenade will supply the desired effect, but was nade poor then.

Same. I mostly use my pistol as I always have an abundance of pistol ammo. Sometimes my AKS-74U if I need a little more punch. Only one time did I have one that would not budge. I used a grenade to blast it out of the anomaly field so I could grab it.

Go to the Construction level and attract and lead the Zombies into the anomaly fields near the gravestones. Good area to practice and retrieve many freshly produced artifacts.

The un-stressed point was it can be accomplished using a bolt. In the opening hours of the game when resources are limited, it's an economical means of acquiring an artifact.

Another point not emphasized is, while effective on Whirligig (and likely good for Witches' Jelly, Gas, etc) anomalies. It wouldn't be on others surrounded by an energy wall. When the Bolts hit those walls, they heat up and drop. Bullets may suffer the same effect. However, as TS points out, grenades may be effective in these circumstances.

Once geared up and rolling using small caliber ammo becomes a practical option.
