LADC v1.4007 (build 7246) - Cannot steal box from army outpost without getting caught.

Hello there. So this mission in Lost Alpha is one I was able to accomplish in an earlier version. Recently I decided to uninstall any previous version and I downloaded the full release of Lost Alpha from here - (https://www.moddb.com/mods/lost-alpha/downloads/stalker-lost-alpha-v14007-dc-torrent?fbclid=IwAR0qpL1sVAvm8hYHDBWYt3qCpE2SP-pZzSa2t5rjR_kFUqbWSzxQl7haq3Q)

I don't have any mods installed on it other than the options given in the installer. In this mission given by Sidorovich, which can be safely commenced at night, where you must steal documents from the military barracks, it seems no matter where I go or what I do, the military is aware of me and the mission fails once I reach this far South. This screenshot was taken at the exact notification of failure. https://puu.sh/DSvpc.jpg

The time to try it seems to start at 22:00, and it was suggested by players on Facebook that I wait until 00:00. Various guides on the internet suggest to cling to the far Eastern fence until you get close enough to the barracks that you hit the fence that spans west-to-east from the entrance, you find the hole in the fence, and so on. It seems not to be working right now.

Welcome to the GSC Forums!

Try doing what you are doing by continuing to hug the fenceline. However try crouching and/or low-crouching as you move southward. This action decreases your visibility, speed and the sounds that you make.

Go far enough south to where you are parallel with the southern wall of the main barracks, then move westward towards it. Anticipate the patrol walking around the building in a counter-clockwise movement. As soon as it passes the southern wall and goes north up the east wall, move in along the south wall and to the southwest corner of the building. Then just up the west wall to the window near the corner for your prize.

Hey there! Appreciate the welcome. I don't know what's going wrong but, unfortunately I'm still getting the same issue. I reverted to an earlier save where I had fast-traveled to the Cordon using a guide, waited for night, headed further North, hugged the East map boundary, and low-crouch-walked maybe 30m out all the way South, and instantly when I come into a certain range I get caught.

Here is my latest try. https://puu.sh/DSwLL.jpg

And the spot on the map where I was caught. I was in the full, low-crouch walk stance the whole time. https://puu.sh/DSwLP.jpg

Oh. Well. As strange as all this was, despite that it failed within the range I moved in, the whole barracks was not aware of me. The first time I just tried to go in, two soldiers were inside and sprayed me when I got to the window.

I loaded it, and the barracks were empty. I got the container, got back out, and headed out quickly. I go back to Sido, and despite it saying it was a failed mission I was still able to turn it in and get the reward. All's well that ends well!

Thank you for the response.

That's great to hear. Good idea to try it anyway despite getting the prompt you failed. Sometimes things just get buggy like that. There are times you can take a task, complete it and get the reward but the PDA will show it still unfinished.

One thing that will always help you reduce problems is to make plenty of Manual Saves. For example in your case as you arrived back in the Rookie Village. Another as you got the prompt for favorable conditions to go to the Military Outpost. Another on location and certainly one right after you got your prize.

I recommend Manual Saves and not Quick Saves because Quick Saves are limited in number and overwrite each other. Make a bad one that corrupts ( known to do this often ) or is compromised by dangerous mutants and/or enemies alerted or attacking, and you can find yourself out of any favorable options. Likewise don't depend on Auto Saves alone since they behave the same.

I prefer to make a Manual Save just before I leave and after I arrive in every level. Once I arrive at a specific location or just prior to an anticipated hostile event or location. Right before I go after an artifact and then after I recover it. Before taking a task ( good for reloading to change variables ) and after getting a desirable task. Before getting a reward and after receiving it. Before a battle or mutant encounter and after you survive it.

Yes this sounds like a lot of Manual Saves but you would be surprised how they solve 98% of all Game problems you can encounter. The retail Games and their Mods are not perfect. This one action is your best guarantee for an enjoyable experience.

@Fox Stalker

Good to hear that you sorted it out and can continue! Everything that TS says about rolling saves is true and you learn that the hard way in LA.

I just want to ask you about a detail of your OP:

On the face of it there should be no problems here, except that IME the installer almost seems to make choices for the player during the installation phase. Also, if you are resettingup (sic) you have to delete the previous contents of the mods folder because the installer will not.

You don't have "free-roaming A-life" plugged in do you? The addon that comes with the game and has a rider saying something like "potentially plot-breaking!!"

If you do have this 'on' - it's possible you will see other anomalous behaviour later on.

getting up on the broken gutter, and through the window before patrol soldiers come around is kind of a pain in the ass, And, if you stray too far out of the prescribed route, you get busted...
