Is it possible to mod lost alpha?
I am asking this question because a guy told me on modDB that the launcher of a mod take precedence over any modified ltx in gamedata folder?
I know there is already some mods available for lost alpha but not a single one seem to be capable of editing mutants ltx.
I know this mod is pretty old and that most people are not very active anymore but anyone that would be kind enough just to confirm that it is not possible would make me save time instead of endlessly searching.

---QUOTATION--- The archive databases (.dbx and more recently, .xdb) remain as compressed archives in the 'bins' folder on the gameroot. The game engine decompresses them on the fly as needed. ---END QUOTATION---
There are no archive files in the "bins" folder. Not in mine there aren't. Just 19 .dll's, the game's .exe and 3 .ltx files.
There must be other database files somewhere because I unpacked the two db files in the gameroot, then the 14 db files in the gamedata folder and I've still got files missing. |

As far as I remember there have never been database files in the "bins" folder.
I've just checked my original THQ version of the game patched to 04 and modded with ZRP 1.07 R5 and there are no database files in the "bins" folder.
Yeah, I know. I was answering Byte Me who seems to know something different.
Lost Alpha version 1.4002 also have no database files in the "bins" folder. ---END QUOTATION---

---QUOTATION--- My mistakeI'll rephrase it, because I was incorrect. Or partially correct, or misleading unintentionally.
For v1.4002 the db(x) archives are on the gameroot.
For v1.4007 the installation creates 'gamedata' and places them there in compressed form.
V1.4007 places the .xdb archives in the 'mods' folder. These are the modfiles that take precedence over the basic environment created from the .dbx files.
This is why having something like "gameplay_dlc_prm_weapons_dlc.xdb" in the mods folder gets you the PRM weapon pack in the game (amongst other stuff)
Reinstalling the game does NOT remove the contents of the mod folder, somewhere in the readme you are advised of this and should delete the contents of the folder before reinstalling.
Think of it along the lines of skinning the game like you might skin a web browser.
It this any help? ---END QUOTATION---
I get it now. Explains why my modded files were being overridden, it's because I had the PRM weapon pack installed. Removed it and now it's fine. Though that means making a mod compatible with other mods is a near impossibility, since I can't unpack other peoples mods. |
