---QUOTATION--- Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary
I'm starting to understand and see more of the Mutant + Anomaly = Artifact equation. I guess it's okay. New to me. ---END QUOTATION--- It fits the gameworld. Since the original SoC it was alluded that artefacts like meat chunk are created when an animal or mutant gets in an anomaly. I really like that they implemented this feature.
---QUOTATION---
Wish I could get some better weight-carrying, endurance, radiation and health artifacts. I have yet to see a single health artifact.
---END QUOTATION--- Travel light (so you can sprint endlessly) and lure mutants in the anomalies that have a chance of spawning what you need.
I've used the artefact merger to create 2 brown beads so far. While the name might suggest otherwise, brown beads are not Strelok's turds, but a rather useful artefact that gives +12 kg carry capacity in exchange for +4 rad and -4 satiety. |

It's a bit like Fishing, or cutting bait...

I'd like some more information about this artifact merging stuff that I know nothing about. I see that Sidorovich and other Traders sell some large yellow case. Is that the first step to buy that? I also saw that Sakharov sells half a dozen recipes but they have no meaning and there is no information on what exactly each does. I guess I need to stop selling artifacts if some of those are needed to merge that I might be missing out on the opportunity to use them. I also thought I saw something that it was a gamble each time. In other words the merger could fail and leave you with nothing.
You mention 2 brown beads but what artifacts are needed to merge to create those? I could definitely use some more weight carrying artifacts. I only found one in the Forest level. It helps with 3 kg but considering it weighs 0.5 kg the gain is only 2.5 kg which makes it a crappy choice. I only have a single Wrenched and a single Jellyfish to counter the artifact radiation. I need better artifacts. Should I just go ahead and buy all the recipes from Sakharov? I think Byte Me mentioned they were better in an earlier version than what we have in 1.4007.
I wish there was more guidance on this in the Game.
TS ---END QUOTATION---
Personally, I just gave Artifact Merging a miss for 14007.
The recipes are crap, all cost 6000 whatever your Barter coefficient is and there might be three worth bothering with:
Brown Beads (as Bunzler notes is pretty useful)
Mercury Ball (for health regen)
Pupil (rad REDUCTION)
But here's the thing: to make a Brown Beads you need a Soother, a Gravi and 2 Wrenched.
In its own right the Soother lets you carry an extra 9kg...
The Gravi is a semi-handy Bulletproofer at -12%...
The Wrenched are a bit naff..
Recipe takes 8 hours and has a 70% chance of success...
Personally, I just use the Soother "as is" - or a pair to carry 18kg...
The Mercury Ball might be useful as it has a +8% health regen. I picked mine up off the floor somewhere (Oldroad??)
You need a Fireball, a Kolobok and a Night Star.
I've only seen ONE Kolobok ever. There's a Fireball inside some pipes near the Wild Territory exit to Yantar. Not impossible to get. Just difficult. And I tend to USE my Night Stars for rupture protection anyway...
Pupil, I have known to fall out of that "Lamppost anomaly" after it eats a Pig, but that's mighty rare. Mine I picked up off the floor in Oldroad.
It has ONE POINT of extra rad Reduction when compared to a Bubble.
The recipe calls for 2x Droplets, an Eye and a Bubble. I think I've only GOT 2 droplets stashed somewhere, they're not so common. I only found an Eye in Freeplay...
I just use the Bubbles raw. Why bother risking one for a measly 1% gain?
Crystal, "Discharge" (Electra), and Gold Beads seem mighty forgettable too. There's a FREE tinned Crystal in a box on the roof of the platform in Wild Territory near the snork gang. After looking at its properties I resolved not to bother making those any time soon...
It's a nice feature of the game (Artifact Merging) and previously to v1.4002 you could use easily found ingredients to cook up a Sauron's Eye that had a retail of 40000 Ru (even more to DeeDee)
Even a cooked up Snowflake went for 18000 Ru...
It's a nice feature that has been unnecessarily NERFED.
Exploiting 1.4007 DC as best as I can. I will NEVER, EVER use a "cheat pack" - a game lives or dies on its gameboard. Best of luck, stalker...

I'll try. You need 1 or 2 low tier, one mid tier and one high tier artefact (so 3 or 4 in total) to create one top-tier artefact (base cost of 10k). The merging process takes 8 ingame hours.
---QUOTATION--- I see that Sidorovich and other Traders sell some large yellow case. Is that the first step to buy that? ---END QUOTATION---
Yes.
---QUOTATION--- I also saw that Sakharov sells half a dozen recipes but they have no meaning and there is no information on what exactly each does. ---END QUOTATION--- You should buy them. Without recipes you can't merge artefacts.
---QUOTATION--- I guess I need to stop selling artifacts if some of those are needed to merge that I might be missing out on the opportunity to use them. ---END QUOTATION---
You can look up the info in your pda or in the merger which artefacts you should keep and which ones are safe to sell.
---QUOTATION--- I also thought I saw something that it was a gamble each time. In other words the merger could fail and leave you with nothing. ---END QUOTATION---
True. There's a 70% chance of success (except brown beads, which has a success chance of 65%). But you can mak a save shortly before the merging process finishes and reload if it failed. I do, allthough it's cheating, I don't like grinding for artefacts all that much. Getting a full set for merging is hard enough as it is.
---QUOTATION--- You mention 2 brown beads but what artifacts are needed to merge to create those? ---END QUOTATION--- 2 Wrenched, 1 Soother and one Gravi. In my game Soother is rather scarce.
---QUOTATION--- I could definitely use some more weight carrying artifacts. I only found one in the Forest level. It helps with 3 kg but considering it weighs 0.5 kg the gain is only 2.5 kg which makes it a crappy choice. I only have a single Wrenched and a single Jellyfish to counter the artifact radiation. ---END QUOTATION--- Damn, seems you're really unlucky with your artefact spawns.
---QUOTATION--- I need better artifacts. Should I just go ahead and buy all the recipes from Sakharov? I think Byte Me mentioned they were better in an earlier version than what we have in 1.4007. ---END QUOTATION---
Maybe they were better in earlier versions, but that won't help you in 1.4007, besides they're still useful. So just go ahead and buy the recipes. Brown Beads (weight) and Pupil (radiation) first if you're short on cash.
So far I've seen 6 recipes in total. I can ask Sakharov if he knows more and he tells me to come back later. So maybe after a certain point in the storyline there will be more then the initial 6 recipes.
Also, I found two of those artefact in the wild, one brown beads and one discharge. Both spawned after a mutant died in an anomaly. |

I agree with what you all have said about it's not worth the mergers on the rare artifacts or the ones that were barely better than the unmerged counterparts. I could use several Bubble.
TS ---END QUOTATION---
Space on your belt is limited. Upgrading artefacts is therefore useful imo (better to have 4 artefacts that give -5 rad than 5 that give -4). But not for their monetary rewards, selling the individual artefacts nets you more cash than the merged artefact.
Seems that having unrestricted A-life leads to some unexpected events. In my game stalkers and animals stay more or less where they are, so they don't roam the map and steal my artefacts. You on the other hand got some serious competition . |

Yes, that's a good point. Space on the belt is definitely limited. Sometimes I think I don't like sharing the same space with ammo and artifacts. After all, everything from detectors, to night vision and your headlamp have their own private slot but those are single item slots unlike artifacts. When I think of other Mods I've seen where the HUD displays the player stacking on 10 or 15 artifacts, that looks so ridiculous, I guess that wouldn't be the way to go either.
I think because I have gotten a few better artifacts and started carrying more and interchange them as needed: 2 endurance, 1 bullet-proof protection, 1 rapture and 1 telepathy, I find myself pushed to the limit of weight. The ones that stay on all the time are my Wrenched, 2 Jellyfish and Spring(?) for non-artifact radiation protection, I've got a full load. So much so that I dropped carrying the Bison.
The Bison was great with it's 64 round magazine but it's damage was subpar. I'm down to my Sniper AN-94, AKS-74U and SPSA-14. I still have my pistol for shooting 9 x 18 but having a rifle and SMG both shooting the 5.45 makes the limited belt space easier. I think I had only one firefight so far that was so intense I went through all my belt ammo and found myself "clicking" my weapon before I realized I need to transfer more to it.
The unrestricted A-Life has been great. Plenty of action and unpredictability. I wasn't aware it increased any looting of dead bodies by other NPCs.
