Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Brunzer~

The Trader and companions should just stay in place, even if it isn't a designated safe place. After all, Paulie the Stew is allowed to hunker down any place he wants to.

I'm starting to understand and see more of the Mutant + Anomaly = Artifact equation. I guess it's okay. New to me. Wish I could get some better weight-carrying, endurance, radiation and health artifacts. I have yet to see a single health artifact.

Good to know some basic gear is allowed by Sin. Hopefully a sawn-off shotgun will be okay. I don't need a Mutant swarm catching me trying to get out of there.

Guess I should have run away from the Military for Mole to go off-line and relocate to the tunnel. Maybe next time.

I've seen the two types of telepathy and Psi protection artifacts. Not sure which is better.

It fits the gameworld. Since the original SoC it was alluded that artefacts like meat chunk are created when an animal or mutant gets in an anomaly. I really like that they implemented this feature.

Travel light (so you can sprint endlessly) and lure mutants in the anomalies that have a chance of spawning what you need.
I've used the artefact merger to create 2 brown beads so far. While the name might suggest otherwise, brown beads are not Strelok's turds, but a rather useful artefact that gives +12 kg carry capacity in exchange for +4 rad and -4 satiety.

I'd like some more information about this artifact merging stuff that I know nothing about. I see that Sidorovich and other Traders sell some large yellow case. Is that the first step to buy that? I also saw that Sakharov sells half a dozen recipes but they have no meaning and there is no information on what exactly each does. I guess I need to stop selling artifacts if some of those are needed to merge that I might be missing out on the opportunity to use them. I also thought I saw something that it was a gamble each time. In other words the merger could fail and leave you with nothing.

You mention 2 brown beads but what artifacts are needed to merge to create those? I could definitely use some more weight carrying artifacts. I only found one in the Forest level. It helps with 3 kg but considering it weighs 0.5 kg the gain is only 2.5 kg which makes it a crappy choice. I only have a single Wrenched and a single Jellyfish to counter the artifact radiation. I need better artifacts. Should I just go ahead and buy all the recipes from Sakharov? I think Byte Me mentioned they were better in an earlier version than what we have in 1.4007.

I wish there was more guidance on this in the Game.

Personally, I just gave Artifact Merging a miss for 14007.
The recipes are crap, all cost 6000 whatever your Barter coefficient is and there might be three worth bothering with:

Brown Beads (as Bunzler notes is pretty useful)
Mercury Ball (for health regen)
Pupil (rad REDUCTION)

But here's the thing: to make a Brown Beads you need a Soother, a Gravi and 2 Wrenched.

In its own right the Soother lets you carry an extra 9kg...
The Gravi is a semi-handy Bulletproofer at -12%...
The Wrenched are a bit naff..

Recipe takes 8 hours and has a 70% chance of success...

Personally, I just use the Soother "as is" - or a pair to carry 18kg...

The Mercury Ball might be useful as it has a +8% health regen. I picked mine up off the floor somewhere (Oldroad??)

You need a Fireball, a Kolobok and a Night Star.

I've only seen ONE Kolobok ever. There's a Fireball inside some pipes near the Wild Territory exit to Yantar. Not impossible to get. Just difficult. And I tend to USE my Night Stars for rupture protection anyway...

Pupil, I have known to fall out of that "Lamppost anomaly" after it eats a Pig, but that's mighty rare. Mine I picked up off the floor in Oldroad.
It has ONE POINT of extra rad Reduction when compared to a Bubble.
The recipe calls for 2x Droplets, an Eye and a Bubble. I think I've only GOT 2 droplets stashed somewhere, they're not so common. I only found an Eye in Freeplay...

I just use the Bubbles raw. Why bother risking one for a measly 1% gain?

Crystal, "Discharge" (Electra), and Gold Beads seem mighty forgettable too. There's a FREE tinned Crystal in a box on the roof of the platform in Wild Territory near the snork gang. After looking at its properties I resolved not to bother making those any time soon...

It's a nice feature of the game (Artifact Merging) and previously to v1.4002 you could use easily found ingredients to cook up a Sauron's Eye that had a retail of 40000 Ru (even more to DeeDee)

Even a cooked up Snowflake went for 18000 Ru...

It's a nice feature that has been unnecessarily NERFED.

I'll try. You need 1 or 2 low tier, one mid tier and one high tier artefact (so 3 or 4 in total) to create one top-tier artefact (base cost of 10k). The merging process takes 8 ingame hours.

Yes.

---QUOTATION---

You should buy them. Without recipes you can't merge artefacts.

---QUOTATION---

---END QUOTATION---

You can look up the info in your pda or in the merger which artefacts you should keep and which ones are safe to sell.

---QUOTATION---
I also thought I saw something that it was a gamble each time. In other words the merger could fail and leave you with nothing.
---END QUOTATION---

True. There's a 70% chance of success (except brown beads, which has a success chance of 65%). But you can mak a save shortly before the merging process finishes and reload if it failed. I do, allthough it's cheating, I don't like grinding for artefacts all that much. Getting a full set for merging is hard enough as it is.

---QUOTATION---
You mention 2 brown beads but what artifacts are needed to merge to create those?
---END QUOTATION---

2 Wrenched, 1 Soother and one Gravi. In my game Soother is rather scarce.

---QUOTATION---

Damn, seems you're really unlucky with your artefact spawns.

---QUOTATION---

---END QUOTATION---

Maybe they were better in earlier versions, but that won't help you in 1.4007, besides they're still useful. So just go ahead and buy the recipes. Brown Beads (weight) and Pupil (radiation) first if you're short on cash.

So far I've seen 6 recipes in total. I can ask Sakharov if he knows more and he tells me to come back later. So maybe after a certain point in the storyline there will be more then the initial 6 recipes.

Also, I found two of those artefact in the wild, one brown beads and one discharge. Both spawned after a mutant died in an anomaly.

Byte Me & Brunzer

Thanks for the quick replies. As I had no idea how artifacts were made, I didn't know about the Flesh at the demo-splat at the Game beginning could/would/should produce an artifact. Now I understand why people mentioned reloading it until they got a favorable result.

I did catch a Loner walking circles around the Rookie Village who had 3 artifacts. I just wrongly assumed it was like Call of Pripyat that they were produced after a Blowout or Psi Storm. He must of grabbed the Flesh produced artifact and the repeated action of the Bloodsucker falling in the Swamp Claw ( Amoeba ) that happens often. I myself detected an artifact there but I always was killed too if I tried to retrieve it.

I think I mentioned before I started following that Loner around. I discovered I could open a chat dialogue with him. The PDA prompted me to seek him out to buy some information. Instead of doing that, I used my PDA to track him. His eventual fate is one that is quite common. Rookie Village Loners start wandering in large circles around the Cordon and soon he went Loco, got close to the Military Base and decided his pistol marksmanship could take them all out. I was able to loot all 3 artifacts from his corpse.

There's another location just outside of the 100 Rads Bar, on the other side of the wall south, right off the tedious road path where an anomaly blocks passage between some buildings and walls. I had picked up a couple of artifacts there and later discovered two different Dutyers who each had a Cuttlefish who must have gotten them there too. Little did I realize that anomaly chokepoint was producing artifacts from Boars or Flesh that were found dead nearby the Dutyer usually killed. It was also a location of Dutyers frequently getting killed too. I just thought it was some of the artifacts sprinkled in that same area I had seen in previous LA versions. Wrong again.

I've already detected and recovered the Fireball near the Wild Territory exit to Yantar. I've also found the two artifacts in the white capsules on the roof of the building next to the Wild Territory Watchtower. Luckily I've managed to keep at least one of every artifact I've found. I only sell them in Yantar when I get duplicates. Next trip I'll buy the recipes there.

I agree with what you all have said about it's not worth the mergers on the rare artifacts or the ones that were barely better than the unmerged counterparts. I could use several Bubble. I usually buy Hercules every chance I get, stash it in every level at my main level stash and carry 4 to 5 bottles on me every excursion. It's probably the most valuable drug sold.

Space on your belt is limited. Upgrading artefacts is therefore useful imo (better to have 4 artefacts that give -5 rad than 5 that give -4). But not for their monetary rewards, selling the individual artefacts nets you more cash than the merged artefact.

Seems that having unrestricted A-life leads to some unexpected events. In my game stalkers and animals stay more or less where they are, so they don't roam the map and steal my artefacts. You on the other hand got some serious competition .

Yes, that's a good point. Space on the belt is definitely limited. Sometimes I think I don't like sharing the same space with ammo and artifacts. After all, everything from detectors, to night vision and your headlamp have their own private slot but those are single item slots unlike artifacts. When I think of other Mods I've seen where the HUD displays the player stacking on 10 or 15 artifacts, that looks so ridiculous, I guess that wouldn't be the way to go either.

I think because I have gotten a few better artifacts and started carrying more and interchange them as needed: 2 endurance, 1 bullet-proof protection, 1 rapture and 1 telepathy, I find myself pushed to the limit of weight. The ones that stay on all the time are my Wrenched, 2 Jellyfish and Spring(?) for non-artifact radiation protection, I've got a full load. So much so that I dropped carrying the Bison.

The Bison was great with it's 64 round magazine but it's damage was subpar. I'm down to my Sniper AN-94, AKS-74U and SPSA-14. I still have my pistol for shooting 9 x 18 but having a rifle and SMG both shooting the 5.45 makes the limited belt space easier. I think I had only one firefight so far that was so intense I went through all my belt ammo and found myself "clicking" my weapon before I realized I need to transfer more to it.

The unrestricted A-Life has been great. Plenty of action and unpredictability. I wasn't aware it increased any looting of dead bodies by other NPCs.

Fastest suit

You asked about this a few pages ago and I replied that it was the https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/SSP-100M since it runs at nearly 160% of usual sprint speed.

(It still is the fastest)

But there's a wrinkle that makes it and any other suit even faster..

You "find" an artifact called https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Supernova Purple Beads that has the following wierdo properties:

additional_sprint_koef = +0.3
additional_run_koef = +0.2
additional_jump_speed = +0.75

And zero other properties except mass.

While this pushes any suit's sprint speed up to 130%, it pushes the SSP 100M close to a 210% sprinter with some enhanced jumping abilities.

The local blockpost commander will pay for this, but getting a replacement will probably be impossible.

Just something to look forward to in Countryside (inexplicably renamed "North Hills" because it's in the East)

Byte Me~

Thanks. That's exactly the kind of stuff I need to know and look forward to getting. More speed and being able to jump higher is right up my alley.

I've had a job from Seriy for over a month about finding Crow meat. I did see some Crows in Construction weeks ago but no luck shooting at them. Since that time I don't see any birds in any levels. I've read about people finding them after a Blowout or Psi Storm but no such luck for me. I finally decided to tell him I didn't want the mission and he immediately offered a job for a Zombie hand. I went over to the Vehicle Junkyard where the Zombies hang out but there were none there since I had recently killed them all.

After giving Petrenko all the documents from the Forest level, he asked me to find some document described as from outside the X-18 entrance. I recently read on Lost Alpha Facebook that this mission was not actually at the Monolith Base X-18 entrance but at the abandoned underground lab where the Bandit Jacket is. I thought great. I'll go do that real quick and give it to Petrenko.

I entered the Dark Valley from the Vehicle Junkyard level changer and hugged the fence to the north meeting some Cats & Pseudodogs. As I crossed the road by the sentry building ( level changer to southern Forest ) I killed two Izlom and one ran away. I spotted Boars and Flesh in the distance eastward and started to go to the houses nearby but I spotted a Bloodsucker and decided to steer clear and go south.

I thought I saw a Boar under a tree and got up right to it's face from the side and blasted it right as I realized it was a resting Chimera. First one I've killed in the Game. I continued south until I found a sand pit and then saw a Loner I didn't expect to find. We continued east and came to a Loner Camp by a Trailer. They were fighting Poltergeists and other mutants.

I went down in the abandoned lab entrance and found several dead Bandits. I looted all of them except the one with the jacket. Since there were so many looted weapons and other supplies, I had to leave again and sell them to the 4 Loners above. I went back and found the document and then took the Bandit Jacket but did not put it on. This activated the Blooduscker that I blasted a couple of times but it ran off. I found a lot of random supplies like ammo and bandages and finally decided to leave.

Above ground the Loners were scattered. One had been killed by the Bloodsucker that ran out of the underground and another was wounded. One Loner was down in the Anomaly pit where I recovered a lesser value artifact. Having the document and the Bandit Jacket, I decided to return exactly the same way I had traveled. On the way out I encountered another cat and Pseudodog and a Boar along the fence.

Arriving back in Garbage it was full of new Zombies. I killed a single one, got the hand for Seriy and left the others behind as I quickly went to get my reward from him. His next job was for an Izlom hand. What luck I had just killed some and had a single arm for him. He gave two more jobs but my next goal was to go north to Petrenko.

Petrenko got his document, gave me another Battery and now has asked me to go to Yantar. I was surprised as I figured X-18 was next. My question is, when people do the Bandit Base/Monolith Base scenario before Darkscape, do they do X-18 or is it locked for a later trip?

This Game sure does like the Player to backtrack and go places you may have been before but for different reasons. I'm undecided if I should do Yantar or Dark Valley next. I'm thinking about turning down my active mission from Nimble to get the double mail jacket since I did not find it in the Forest Mine but just simply an ordinary Bandit jacket. Maybe he'll offer next the job in Yantar or does that come after I get Borov's revolver? Any advice or tips would be helpful. Thanks.
