Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Bandit Diversions: Yantar ( Part 6 )

So apparently I was supposed to remove my artifact detector and replace it with one of the two instruments that Sakharov gave me. I resumed my position from my Manual Save and deployed my new device that initiated a countdown. From the rear of the large Brain Vat room, it appeared a Controller came from the vault door. I whipped out my shotgun and dispatched it quickly. However when I brought out the device again to continue to take the readings, I noticed the timer reset.

It seemed like a safer place to be was up on the catwalk surrounding the Brain Vat. Of course to climb it reset the timer again. Another Controller attack again. Adjusting an artifact. Taking the anti-telepathy medication. Using a medkit. Every action where I put back the device and did something else made the timer end and start over again from the beginning, which I guess was the idea to make the task difficult.

Now that I got a taste of what this event entailed, I decided to do it later when I was in conjunction with the special armor for Nimble job. There was little more I could do in Yantar and that I had put off the events in the Dark Valley long enough. Now I believe I have caught up to where I wrote about my return to the Dark Valley and was discussing the options of Borov's Safe. Since I had taken both the document and revolver at the same time, and this set off blowing my cover and made Borov mad, I thought this too would be delayed.

After discussing this with Byte Me, I went back to my Game and decided to try some of the variables that I didn't know about. Sure enough, I found that since the document could be taken but not put back, it was not wise to grab it early. However I discovered I could grab Borov's revolver and he wasn't the wiser when he returned from his contrived little walk around the corner.

Even though I had earlier in a run, talked to the drunk and went as far as entering the Monolith Base and walking around, I decided in this variable not to talk to the drunk yet. What if I went ahead and took the revolver to Nimble? What would come after that even though I hadn't found the Sunrise 5 suit yet? I just assumed the Yantar related armor job would follow it, as the other armor jobs had done. I wouldn't know until I tried.

I returned to the Loner Camp at the Dark Valley Pig Farm and used the Guide there to jump to the Cordon. I gave Nimble the revolver from Borov's safe and was rewarded with money but more importantly a skill point. That was used to increase my accuracy while shooting. I now had a total of 7 skill points spread around as evenly as possible. To my surprise, Nimble gave me the task to find the special armor in Yantar even though I still had another armor job uncompleted. Looks like I was going back to Yantar.

Bloodsucker Lair

I love that bloodbath! I never spotted the "between desk" strategy. Just hid under a pile of rubble after the obligatory F1 grenade into the back section and pump-actioned any survivors. Or just stood outside in the storeroom letting the bloods arrive and grenading the sods while slamming the door shut.

That probably doesn't work too well with free ranging A-life though.

I just wish the 8 bloods respawned now and then. Good money for the parts with the local trader.

Hope your next u/d concludes The Expedition. Or not, depending. Things tend to get a bit hairy afterwards IME. Repeatedly. And that's why I like Yantar so much - a LOT of work has gone into the gameplay there - and most seems to work. But things can unexpectedly get out of hand.

Nimble.

Probably mentioned this before.
As soon as you "work for Nimble" - EVERYTHING that he ever looks for spawns on the board. With two notable exceptions. The "Sunrise 5" suit (stalker_light_outfit_m1) and the "Sniper LR300" (which is NOT the one in Bloodsucker Village)

So depending on player choice, if you 'know' where all this crap is you make use of it or stockpile it or bring it; or any combo that suits.

Nearly forgot, my old 'pal' seems to have re-emerged.

Bandit Diversions: Yantar ( Part 5 )

I wasn't the least bit apprehensive about facing the Bloodsuckers. I knew from my Testing days, as soon as I entered the last room and then immediately went to the left, there was a sweet spot where I could be standing between some broken tables and come to no harm. Sure enough the Bloodsuckers swarmed after I tossed a grenade or two, going in various directions cloaking and uncloaking. Using my SPAS-14, I quickly dispatched the last one.

There had been a document found on a desk above ground inside the deserted Military Base. I found an additional item on one of the shelves in the Supply room ( room before opening the final vault of the Bloodsucker's Lair ) and I snooped around the Bloodsucker room but found nothing. The Brain room was next. However no matter which angle I approached it from, it still produced the scream, green screen-jerk and teleport back to the Supply room. This made no sense.

I remembered seeing an additional line of Sakharov's dialogue about the Brain and the radiation it gives off. I guess I had to initiate that to get closer. At this point there was nothing to do but return to the Mobile Lab where my party awaited me. There was no advantage in walking through the entire underground again. I passed through the empty Supply room and went up the ramp leading to the short stairs that went to the broken elevator. Luckily there was a ladder I could ascend. Even luckier, the stupid anomaly that had been haphazardly added in earlier versions was now removed which made my passage possible.

Back at the Mobile Lab, Sakharov and I had the conversation about taking some additional equipment to use on a return trip to the Brain. Now at this point I have to admit that I had read other posts dealing with Yantar and I was aware of a side mission involving some special armor that would be near the Brain. However Nimble hadn't offered this job yet. I was still stuck trying to find a Sunrise-5 for him ( no idea where this is ) and another job to give him Borov's Revolver ( of which I also had no idea where it was either other than somewhere near Borov in the Dark Valley ) so I felt I really needed to wait to do this final task when I got the accompanying task.

But like I do some times, I let curiosity and impatience get the best of me and I decided to take the Sakharov mission and just give it a try. I knew I could go back to a Manual Save right before this if things didn't work out. Sakharov gave me two devices and I set off once again to visit the Brain Vat as it was called. I went above ground and passed by the empty Bandit Garage and the deserted Brain compound that was still littered with the dead from the Loner/Bandit Faction war.

I descended the stairs and was soon standing before the Brain. I walked around it and nothing happened. I climbed the ladder and walked around the perimeter scaffolding and even jumped on it and nothing happened. I checked my Mini-Map and it directed me to a nearby metal panel that was a stash location but it's contents were empty of anything. I didn't get it. What was I supposed to do? Did I not pay attention to Sakharov's instructions? I had to go to the Lost Alpha Wiki to find my mistake.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Bandit Diversions: Yantar ( Part 4 )

I forgot to mention one very important event. The whole reason I was compelled to initiate the Scientist search & escort mission was due to an event before the big firefight at the Brain compound with the Loners and Bandits. The Loners were swarming all over the place and several had gone on down below and were on alert in the lower stairs. I could see on my Mini-Map there was a dead NPC somewhere much deeper. I decided to probe.

I went down below and stepped through the open vault door and heard the sound of Bloodsuckers. I equipped my shotgun and was soon fighting and being attacked but managed to kill 3 of them. I ventured farther but knew from prior experience not to go past the first bend that would produce the scream-jump to the empty supply room. I wasn't able to kill anymore but thought the time was ripe since some had escaped from below. This was the event that was the catalyst for my timing.

Back to the events of the first bunker with the Ecologists, I discovered the hard way a straight approach to remove the device on the shelf would never be successful. After grabbing it we were soon on our way down the hill and through the gully, back up the embankment and around the corner to the entrance to the secondary military complex that had the locked door to the vehicle elevator. I found many items in the large hangar including a dead Scientist. Some Zombies jumped us and killed one of the 3 Ecologists I was with. Luckily I had made a Manual Save on arrival but when I reloaded it and re-did the scene, the lead Ecologist took off on his own leaving the other two behind.

I quickly grabbed the same items and then tried to catch up with the head of the expedition. I didn't see him but ran in the general direction of where I thought he would go, being the main Military compound. He showed up on my Mini-Map but wasn't in front of me. Then I realized he was already underground. I entered the main building, went down the broken elevator shaft, dispatched the Zombies and found the Ecologist stopped at the door leading to where I knew the Bloodsuckers awaited.

He wouldn't talk and I knew something was wrong. I re-launched my Manual Save again back at the other location. This time I immediately noticed he disappeared through the locked door or either just lowered himself directly down into the underground. This didn't seem right since I couldn't follow the same way and again the other two wouldn't do anything when I attempted to talk to them. Again the lead Ecologist was traversing the underground tunnels seemingly to repeat the same behavior. This wasn't going to work.

I had to go back to my Manual Save at the first location and repeat all the previous actions. This time when we got to the second location, the lead Ecologist didn't whack out when it was time to leave. However the other two didn't follow. The green suited Ecologist and I went to the entrance of the main compound and he said I must continue alone. He quickly departed and I was left alone to resume the journey through the elevator shaft by ladder to my awaiting rendezvous with the rest of the remaining Bloodsuckers.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Bandit Diversions: Yantar ( Part 3 )

I cannot emphasize enough how chaotic and wild the gunfight was from the compound above ground from the Brain where the Loners were now hanging out, to just up the road where the Bandits hang out at the Garage. Literally the road was littered with bodies everywhere. As the Loners were inside that one building on all floors and walking all around the square perimeter wall, the Bandits would walk down the main road and suddenly see the Loners and go rushing in. I saw 3 Bandits suddenly appear in the west wall opening and start shooting and within 30 seconds, they fell to massive gunfire.

Likewise Loners would be on the road walking north and suddenly spot the Bandits and go trotting down the road recklessly shooting as running. Bodies of both Factions were everywhere. I could barely keep up with all the loot, often getting overloaded and trying to sort through the bad weapons to leave behind and the good to sell quickly, often to buyers that would be dead within minutes or hours in Game Time. It became a battle of attrition where eventually since there were more Loners they won in the end.

However it was at a great cost as the Brain compound ( for lack of a better description ) and the village just south of it was soon empty other than one or two well seasoned fighters. I simply did not know if all that had happened was how Yantar was eventually supposed to be or if the unrestricted A-Life had opened a flood of Loners into an area that normally was supposed to be the Player alone dealing with the Bandits at the Garage. Yantar would never be the same.

I knew the Scientists were anxious to go on some missions. I did not know where exactly though since this was all new to me. I figured that the prior conditions of the Bandits at the Garage and Brain compound were probably not safe areas to be around escorting normally poor-fighting Scientists who stupidly liked to use pistols to engage enemies. With the Bandits momentarily cleared of those areas, it seemed to me a good time to try the Scientist's missions and delve into the Yantar Underground.

As I always make a lot of Manual Saves, I thought if this didn't work out I could simply go back before these events and not keep them. With the Zombies by the Mobile Lab cleared and the Bandits in the areas I had just come from it seemed like a good time. I returned to the Mobile Lab, talked to Sakharov and initiated the Scientist escort missions. The 4 of us gathered after talking to the three new characters and we set of eastward along the same path I had often taken coming to the Mobile Lab.

Unexpectedly we did not make my usual turn to the south when we got to the empty compound ( with the locked elevator shaft for vehicles ) but continued eastward and soon arrived at the empty bunker on the hill filled with anomalies. There were psychic hallucinations there but I did not see a Controller. The 3 others stood outside of it while I was expected to shoot some mutants while they took readings. There were a few easy artifacts to grab but most were deep inside and impossible to recover.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Bandit Diversions: Yantar ( Part 2 )

So I had previously posted my activities at this point ( Bandit Diversions: Part 2 on page 20 ) including a video. Basically I was attacking the Zombies and with the use of the magical Bandit jacket, selling the used weapons to the Bandits at the Bandit Village and Garage. I felt venturing among the Bandits and not killing any was relatively safe for any future events that were supposed to come.

I knew from previous LA versions that the Dutyers eventually offer some missions by talking to their leader in the Boat House. I was unsure if LADC was the same. Even though 2 or 3 Dutyers had been killed in all this time, their leader remained. There had been no spawned replacements. Other than the 3 new arrivals at the Scientist's Compound, Yantar was the same as it always was. I believe I had made somewhere between a dozen but no more than 20 trips to Yantar.

It was during a return run to Yantar when my Game crashed and my Manual Saves appeared to become corrupted. I got help as mentioned and restarted my Game and was back in Yantar but now with yellow Bandits. Then one trip I approached the empty village on the far eastern edge. Normally it had Father Diodor and his two buddies in the Bunker at the northern end. Occasionally a Bandit or two would wander through or down the road on the west side of the village.

To my surprise a normally empty house now had 4 or 5 Loners inside of it. I rushed over to it and found a few dead dogs outside. The Loners inside were standing separately in each room as they were there to occupy the village. This was hugely unexpected. Keep in mind all the previous versions of LA I had experience with, were before Dez0wave had started filling up all the levels with NPCs and minor tasks. Simply put, were the Loners here due to time passing or the unrestricted A-Life?

I continued to make runs to Yantar, carrying artifacts and mutant parts to stash and sell later and I noticed more and more Loners were in the village and suddenly there was the yellow circle marker on my Mini-Map indicating the Loners now had a "Guide" inside that same house. Wow. That was unexpected, giving a certain legitimacy to my new found Loner proliferation. As the Loners gathered they started patrolling the village and I guess it was only a matter of time before they engaged the Bandits who were based at the Garage and left it going south to the walled compound near the level changer and the village south of it.

Before I knew it I found myself in the middle of a war. Wearing the magical Bandit jacket I was free from having to take sides. In fact I found myself very busy helping the wounded and selling weapons to both the Bandits and the Loners. Things happened so fast, those that bought weapons from me were killed just moments later and I was re-selling the same weapons. I quickly got back up to 100,000 rubles from having gone as low as 10,000 rubles before I was told Sin doesn't take my money.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Please read my previous Post.

Bandit Diversions: Yantar ( Part 1 )

Yantar. A pivotal place in SoC. A pivotal place in Clear Sky. A pivotal place in Lost Alpha. However it must be mentioned again that I've been coming to Yantar multiple times before the Game was really supposed to let me go there. While I've mentioned my sneaking in or "using a trick" to do so, no one here has asked me to define what I mean so I'm going to assume that others have found the same ingress.

When I first discovered the secret way to get in, my only thoughts were access to Sakharov at the Mobile Lab to sell artifacts and mutant parts, all the while with not screwing up my Game. I avoided the Bandits as much as possible, stopping by to see Father Diodor and his two useless companions ( they quickly ran out of their meager funds to buy used weapons ) and then on to the Duty Compound. Again I had to be very careful not to get the Dutyers involved in some Bandit firefight.

From there, due to Bandits and mutants, the safest path I found was to cut directly across the Military compound more or less across the main road south to north to the broken bridge. Of course this path had me in conflict with the Military. They quickly all ran out of their poorly defended fortress and I was forced to eliminate them which meant other than the two sentries I left in the two far towers, the base soon became deserted. I continued north, passing directly in front of the other compound and after jumping over the pipeline headed indirectly west to the Mobile Lab.

I mention all of this to give an indication of what I was doing in Yantar. I avoided the Bandit Village and the Bandit Garage. I didn't initiate any actions with Sakharov, other than selling and buying items and I only used Kruglov for repairs. This was my Yantar routine where I made many, many trips. Other than Father Diodor and his two bunker mates there were no Loners anywhere. The Bandits generally stayed in their two camps and other than the occasional Zombies I encountered, I felt I was safe not endangering my Game for the future when I was actually supposed to be here.

I had amassed up to 500,000 rubles in the time I was delaying the events I needed to do in the Dark Valley and my subsequent trip to Darkscape. I had forgotten in the action of being mugged by Sin when they took items, weapons and armor from me, if they took my money. I posted here asking but didn't get a quick reply so I undertook a mass spending of my surplus. I bought an Exoskeleton, an Ecologist suit, took them to get upgraded, bought a lot of 5.45 BP ammo and spread other supplies around. I was doing all of these latest things wearing the magical Bandit jacket.

Then one trip things suddenly changed. I arrived at the Mobile Lab and there were 3 new people. Two Scientists in Ecologist suits and another one wearing a Stalker suit with a unique name. One wouldn't talk at all and the other two really didn't have any different dialogue other than small talk. They came in handy to sell used weapons to but I knew they had a future purpose I was not ready for yet. I was now making trips to Yantar to stash artifacts and mutant parts in the car stash outside the Mobile Lab to sell later, still thinking I might be robbed of my money on hand.

Yeah... there's something somewhere about this having gamebreaking possibilities.......

Basically, things can spawn in unusual areas, come out of their "gulags", eat major characters and so on.

It's all good fun - until a Chimera gets inside Sakharov's Bunker.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

I've had a lot of recent events and a deluge of now open tasks and opportunities unfold that I need to talk about them so I don't mess up my Game and be unprepared for what's to come. However to do that, I really need to discuss some prior events that took place that I've been putting off for too long. Strange happenings that I'm not sure are scripted or due to the unrestricted A-Life Mod that came with the 1.4007 version.

Added to that my recent crashes, that I didn't expect to get solved where I momentarily removed all my Mods and started a new Game. Once Dez helped me by saying my crashes were the result of my Configurator not being updated, I re-installed all the Mods and added back my removed Manual Saves. As I mentioned before, everything worked with the exception of the Bandits no longer being "green" but now "yellow" while wearing the magical Bandit jacket. My Game also has the appearance of the unrestricted A-Life Mod becoming more active as I'm seeing big changes that weren't there before. I need to say all this to set up the background for the next installment of...

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

For that matter, the Sin dude appearing on the train tracks outside the House that Bes hangs out in, I have not seen either. That was a dream sequence or some other effect where the Player's vision was rapidly shifted to the Sin dude and then snapped back. I guess a lot of the Sin appearances have been cleaned up or removed.

I usually visit the Factory in the Cordon every time I'm in the level. Lately because I can walk among the Bandits ( magic Bandit jacket ) but I do try to make sure ( by redoing it if necessary ) that Wolf survives. Proverb rarely leaves the third floor but I've seen it a few times more lately as instead of only a single Bandit spawning, it's been three or so. As the Loners there get frequently killed, meaning new replacements, they have money to buy used weapons.

Since Loners pay more for used weapons than Sid, Barkeep or others, I try to sell to them first meaning in most levels with static positions, the NPCs end up broke. All the personnel inside the Construction level Loner Base are a good example. When I recently visited Rostok Factory, the lone Bandit by the mini-swamp went on alert and ran in the train tunnel and massacred the two Scientists. ( I re-did this to prevent it from being permanent ) but just stood right next to the Loner Guide and did nothing. Does that mean the Guides are not targets? The magic Bandit jacket allowed me to watch this happen without being a target myself.

I don't get involved in any of the Bandit-Loner-Duty firefights while officially being a Bandit Faction member. This is really strange if you think about it. If the Loners will make a comment about me being a Bandit, I'm wearing a Bandit jacket and my PDA identifies me being in the Bandit Faction...then why exactly do they not shoot me? The logic of that escapes me if I step outside me being the Player.

Another recent incident wearing the magic Bandit jacket ( where I don't get involved ) is the small Loner group hanging out in southern Garbage ( at the new underground bunker complex ) where the Bandits wiped out the three Loners. I visited again and this time it had to spawn 3 new Loners of which they were wiped out again with 1 wounded Bandit. Luckily I've been able to assist any wounded Bandits with a medkit. Other Mods I have played would cause the Game to crash when this action was taken.

Thanks for telling me I can take the Revolver that Nimble wants. I wasn't sure if the Document alone, the revolver alone or both items taken would cause conflict. I guess I should have tried the variables more. My Game is more or less on pause there since I have some other IRL obligations to take care of this weekend.

Thanks again for the information. Where's your buddy Skaraks?
