I farm Zombies. Those artys in the lower half of the map?
Below Bandit Mines there are NO boltholes. And you can't "run off the map" like previously during a Blowout. Is there a "disco ball" wierdo thingy there? Asking for a friend..
---END QUOTATION---

In the southern part I found mostly night stars, but was alss a herd of about 6 fleshes which could be 'shepherded' in to some springboards.

---QUOTATION---

So that's the [https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Find_the_documents_(Forest) Forest Documents] subthread? Do you need to grab the piece at the 'old entrance to X18' as well? Just trying to pin this down.
---END QUOTATION---

No, I mean the task where you have to kill the bandits and subsequently those 6 mercs that ambush you.
My order of getting the mission was (iirc):
All documents up untill Yantar (but including the old entrance of x18)
Killing all bandits at the mine.

---QUOTATION---

I think the Claw anomaly was a CoP thing, right?
Are you meaning the swirly gas cloud thing?
I avoid insta-death anomalies and move on. Pragmatically.
---END QUOTATION---

In CoP there's an anomaly called claw. I actually meant this one: https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Ameba

---QUOTATION---
Interesting. I have never bought NV since one abortive testrun with Sid's Blockpost thievery run in 1.4002. Too heavy.
I pretty much aimed to snag the free SSP-99m by doing 'extra work' for Warrant Officer and "running Wild Territory" with a leap into the Yantar level changer from Forgotten (my favourite)
Until they took it off the bloody board for v1.4007...
Now I just sleep at night like a normal - until I snag the more useful SSP 100.
Both have excellent 2nd gen NV.
---END QUOTATION---

I ran a long time with a sunrise-4 suit and a screen helmet. The SSP-10 suit is great though, almost too good with its sprinting capabilities.

---QUOTATION---
I ran through 5-6 days of early gameplay with an Echo detector and NO other detector. Trying to play from 'muscle memory' and an eidetic memory of all of the anomaly placements seen between v1.30013 and 1.4005/6. Even with the 'invisible anomalies' option OFF.

What could possibly go wrong?
---END QUOTATION---

Same, first detector I kept was the elite one, and even then I have it often unequiped. Not a fan of the ear rape when close to an anomaly for a longer time.

---QUOTATION---

Incidentally, IFF you join Duty, have a chat to the Arena guard. Duty get a free VIP pass (I kid you not)
---END QUOTATION---

That's good to know. I got my vip pass the hard way.

---QUOTATION---

I really LIKED the [https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Karlito Karlitos] of v1.3002 and 1.4002. Sadly missed and replaced with wanky controllers afterwards. I MISS the Karlitos, but maybe too many stalkers laughed..
I did- as I stuck the blade in..
---END QUOTATION---

What's so funny huh? He's making you laugh, like somekind of clown? You think he's there to amuse you?

---QUOTATION---

Was that 1.3003?

---END QUOTATION---

Yes, the last version of LA without the DC.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Brunzer:

---QUOTATION---

Nice write up, Tejas. I meant to post a response to some of the issues you've raised a lot earlier, but was caught up with playing the game. But here goes, in no particular order:

---END QUOTATION---

First let me say I greatly appreciate you taking the time to give your thoughts on all of this. Please, please continue. Please do not start another thread. The purpose of this was NOT to only be about me. It was to describe my first exposure to Lost Alpha after being absent for over 4 years and for anyone/everyone to hopefully guide me and give me feedback. I simply don't have enough free time in my life to go it all alone and ignore what could be considered spoilers or help. The Wiki is barely helpful as it still contains much obsolete or outdated material from previous versions. Another thing I wanted to do is mention things not correct so that Byte Me or anyone else can update the Wiki since I don't have the time.

---QUOTATION---

-I read the wiki the same way you did, when that blowout on the forest map occured. In fact, I thought it was scripted since it happened to you in exactly the same fashion. I took shelter at the electro anomaly too, since that was the only shelter within sprinting distance. I thought it was kinda cool to wait out the psi storm there, really added to the atmosphere. But I think it's weird that the houses in forest aren't suitable as shelter, similar structures (and worse ones) do perfectly fine in other maps.

---END QUOTATION---

Yes, I even ran into the "wrong" house at the Rookie Village and died because not every structure is treated equally. I believe this is fairly common in Mods where safe places don't make sense all around. Surely at the very least one structure in the two Zombie villages should be a safe place. Thankfully my habit of making frequent Manual Saves solved that problem.

---QUOTATION---

On that note, in dead city the trader leaves his perfectly fine appartment building during a blowout to join the military at the city centre. Getting his entourage of neutral stalkers killed. It gave me a good opportunity to sell him a lot of loot I stashed there, so I guess I should thank him for the service, but gamewise it makes no sense.

---END QUOTATION---

That's stupid. I thought the Dead City & Pripyat Traders were supposed to be secret and a puzzle for the Player to find. Not understanding the entourage part. Are they not by themselves? I enjoyed searching all the buildings in Testing. Compared to Call of Chernobyl, there are zero items hidden in all the tall buildings where in LA there are attics and secret rooms.

---QUOTATION---

-Forest is littered with artefacts, I really recommend to 'comb' the place.

---END QUOTATION---

I noticed there are artifacts off the beaten path. I'm not totally understanding the artifact detectors. In CS/CoP/CoC you needed higher end ones to make artifacts "appear". It seems in LA they are visible ( some brighter and easier to see than others ) whereas the detectors only help you find them if not as visible in their surroundings or hidden under mutant bodies, NPC bodies or in foliage.

I'm also not understanding how they are made. It seems like you and others are saying if a mutant or men goes into an Anomaly, it can sometimes/always produce an artifact? If so, that's a new feature I was unaware about and would explain why I got some decent start artifacts in the Cordon Zombie tunnel.

---QUOTATION---

-Haven't found an eliminator shotgun yet, but I did find another auto-shotgun which looks a bit like an assault rifle. Haven't tested it out though. Currently I have a special chaser (more damage than the basic model) which I found in Darkscape.

---END QUOTATION---

You can sell Boris ( NPC in yellow jacket outside entrance to 100 Rads Bar ) a sawn-off shotgun or TOZ-66 and he will equip one of those and move his Eliminator to his inventory for purchase. The Wiki actually suggests to knife him to accomplish the same thing. This method of selling a shotgun for what the NPC carries is the same way I got Oleg Gusarov's Sniper Obokan and Greben's gun in Yantar. I'm glad to see this trick work I discovered a decade ago in SoC.

---QUOTATION---

-I noticed you were using the basic detector for a really long time, but that thing can only be given range upgrades. A simple echo detector can be upgraded to 62 artefacts. A fully upgraded bear detector (which you have by now) sees 64 artefacts. But I noticed that these do not perfectly overlap, the echo detector has the 'twinkle' artefact listed, where a bear detector doesn't, might be others too, I haven't done a real side by side comparison.

---END QUOTATION---

Mainly because it appeared the potato detector and the Echo detector did the same things. Plus I kept thinking as soon as I purchased the Echo from Sid, I would find one out in the open or get one in a stash and I would regret spending the money. Once I went to Yantar early, the opportunity to skip the Echo and get the Bear seemed like a prudent choice. If I had only known Fox's upgrade prices were half of Kruglov, I wouldn't have let Kruglov do all the non-range upgrades. Kruglov's range upgrades were ridiculous and I only did the first one because I couldn't afford the middle one.

It's somewhat confusing to talk about detectors here. As there are Anomaly detectors and there are Artifact detectors. I picked up the Advanced at the Duty Compound in Forest. I don't plan on buying any more for quite some time especially if the Artifact detectors are not needed to make any "appear".

---QUOTATION---

-Don't wait to long on visiting darkscape man. I get you dislike the way the story restricts from playing as you wish, by forcing you in to a very lineair sequence of actions, without you own gear. But it really isn't that hard, you've done worse than taking out a few bandits while wearing a crappy suit right? And trudging back and forth is part of the game. Besides, if it really bothers you it can be easily circumvented by stashing your gear.
Darkscape is filled with good gear and nice artefacts. Besides, there's some good fun to be had with mutants there. One of my most memorable fights was a giant clusterfuck at the abandoned village involving zombies, izloms, dogs, a burer, a pseudogiant and last but not least, a chimera. Was pretty glorious watching them take eachother on, anomalies going wild and me in the attic of one the houses tossing grenades like a scared little *****.

---END QUOTATION---

Yeah...I'm giving a lot of thought to this. I may switch to alternate armor, weapons and supplies and leave the good stuff in the Cordon or elsewhere. I forgot. Once I get mugged, do I have the option of leaving the Mines out of the two different paths? If not, which one am I stuck with? Do I leave Darkscape and have to go back to the DV or the Cordon? I need to know these things to plan ahead.

Mainly my excuse for not doing this has been many. First I wanted a scope. Then I discovered the Point system and wanted to earn more Points to improve my weight carrying and accuracy when shooting. I basically want to be better prepared and have better equipment. Now this has gone on long enough where I can actually wear secondary weapons and armor ( found a PSO-1 scope in an activated stash I can attach to an AK-74 ) and leave my prize Sniper Obokon elsewhere. I can leave my Sunrise 3 and switch to Sunrise 5. You get the idea.

---QUOTATION---

@Byte me
For me the option to join Duty was available after completing the bandit mine quest, but before the Yantar documents.

Some of my gripes with the game, again in no particular order:

-The Loners at the Garbage still talk about artefacts on the garbage piles, but there aren't any there. You could argue they can't know for sure, but gameplay wise, its just wasting the players time, wich is just bad design imo.

---END QUOTATION---

This doesn't bother me and actually makes sense. Of course people are going to talk about something that may have been true or accurate at one time. Like all gossip, if it is repeated enough and over a long period of time, it no longer becomes accurate or up to date. At one time what they said was true. It was repeated so many times, people simply believed it, went there and picked the location clean.

---QUOTATION---

-I don't like that new weird claw anomaly thing. Other anomalies can be triggered or protected against, making you feel like a clever stalker when scooping up an artefact. This one just means instant death within a split second. Or am I missing something here?

---END QUOTATION---

That's not new. Or at least the two in the Cordon, one outside Sid's bunker and the other hidden in the bushes near the Factory. They are in fact some of the oldest mutant features in LA that I saw back in 2012. You used to be able to get it to snap shut by throwing bolts but now the Player doesn't seem to trigger them by throwing anything. What is also new is Artifacts being inside them. I'm used to being able to shoot Artifacts, especially with a pistol and having them move out of an Anomaly. Not LADC. Artifacts remain stuck in location and the Player has to die to get them quite often.

---QUOTATION---

-I bought blue nightvision for 20k, half an hour later Sid had a screen helmet for sale for about 10k with integrated blue night vision. Renders the whole slot useless and makes no sense economy wise.

---END QUOTATION---

That's good to know. I've been meaning to comment that the "Vampire" Night Vision I paid Sid 9,500 rubles for was a total waste of money. I can't see shit. The headlamp does a far better job. I look forward to getting anything better but no one sells anything yet.

I just don't understand these huge trader inventories with 99% of stuff I don't need or want. Presently I buy shotgun, 5.45 and 9 x 18 ammo from Sid and Petrenko. I buy nothing from Barkeep ( worst prices on everything ) except Hercules. I buy all the Hercules I can.

---QUOTATION---

-selling detectors to Mole got bugged. A nice way to make to money at first since I found quite a few, he buys a simple detector for 10k and I twice sold an advanced detector. The first for 13,5k the second for 14,5 after that he asked for another basic detector but fails to accept one.

---END QUOTATION---

Whether it's SoC or LADC, my Mole always dies quickly. Probably because it's my fault. I don't do the scripted scamper into the Agroprom Underground in SoC or LADC. When the Military arrives in SoC or LADC, I stay topside to kill them all. Mole usually participates and dies. In SoC, if he survives, the soon-to-arrive Bandits, Military or Bloodsuckers get him. I was surprised that no one appears to occupy the Agroprom buildings except Pseudodogs, Burers and other riff-raff.

In both SoC and LADC I find there's too much loot in the Underground to grab it and be expected to come out of the Underground to fight the Military/Get the Documents. Then you have no room to loot the Military. For this reason I often skip the Underground in SoC and get the Documents from a topside attack. Likewise a topside attack of the Military Base was the same for me in LADC. While I have done the visit to Strelok's Lair in LADC and even went all the way to the entrance in the Agroprom woods, I have yet to do the Military stretch where one encounters the Military in SoC and the Controller at the end. I just skipped that section due to little gain. Maybe later. Maybe backwards.

---QUOTATION---

-why doesn't Duty fortify the entrances to the Bar? Place some gates, maybe a tower or two. They're just patrolling the perimiter and always lose one or two men to boars and dogs that way. Sure, it's a game and they respawn, nice way to get some stash info... But such a display of incompetence breaks the immersion for me.

---END QUOTATION---

I really hate the long slog around Rostok. It's like being able to drive a car all your life ( SoC and other Mods ) and suddenly have to walk everywhere ( LA ) to get to the Bar. I refuse to give the Dutyer 8,000 rubles to take a shortcut that should be open. The only advantage in the long detour is the death of other NPCs for looting.

What's funny is I had done this trip two dozen times. One time I was walking south and this idiot was waving at me. I stopped and found he had dialogue ( I had forgotten about this from Testing ) for me to kill the Pseudodogs ( all dead at the time ) so he and his buddies could get safe passage. It's not like I had skipped him. I actually traded with him but did it so quickly before I overlooked his dialogue tree. He and two buddies were at the Bus Stop. The 4th member of the group that needed help had already passed them and was sleeping in a trailer near the Forest level changer. That made no sense.

I actually use the elevated section where Ivancov stands ( really stupid a repair tech is standing on the roof in the open with no table, no tools, no expected equipment ) and jump from the edge by the west hangar. From there I go along the window ledge ( falling quite often ) until I get near the fence and leap over the wall as a shortcut to avoid walking all the way around. It's one way for only leaving and going south.

---QUOTATION---

-Some psi-effects are bordering on torture. Most notably going in the mines in Forest (should carry a warning for people with epilepsy) and the sound effects from the brain in Yantar. What the **** were they thinking?

---END QUOTATION---

I have yet to see what this is all about. Thanks for the warning.

---QUOTATION---

Some positive things (last I played was 1.003):

-The economy is fine for me. Lots of ways to make money, i.e. selling guns, artefacts or mutant parts. Game doesn't force you either to accumulate wealth and better gear since it provides ample weapons and suits to just finish the game with if that's what you want. Some balancing might be in order though, as with the NV-device for example.

---END QUOTATION---

I wish there were more needed items but just expensive. So far no scopes, no decent Night Vision. No high end NATO weapons.

---QUOTATION---

-I love all those different mutant types, compared to the original.

---END QUOTATION---

Glad to see the Bear is gone. I hated those things. The Construction level used to have a dozen or two that would swarm the Player around the Junkpiles. They were bullet sponges. Impossible to kill a single one without exhausting all your ammo.

I still hate the Pajama Zombies. I'd like to see women and children too and not just men wearing the same blue clothes.

I'm also glad most of the Mutants fight each other. Having to face 3 Burers is too much. Luckily the Pseudodogs killed them.

---QUOTATION---

-Finally upgrading weapons is implemented in a satisfying manner. They could've been a bit more creative, most upgrade tiers are the same between different weapons and suits. But at least it works and gives tangible results.

---END QUOTATION---

Better yes. Terrible in previous versions.

---QUOTATION---

-Allthough still buggy, nothing gamebreaking has occured (yet).

---END QUOTATION---

I get an occasional crash. Sometimes when there's too many NPCS and/or Mutants brought online.

---QUOTATION---

-Luring fleshes and boars into a whirlgig was always great fun, but now there's even a chance to be rewarded with an artefact.

---END QUOTATION---

Unaware of this.

---QUOTATION---

Hope you don't mind me posting all this in your diary thread, Tejas. It's not all related to the topic, but activity is so low on this part of the forum I thought it wouldn't matter.

---END QUOTATION---

Not at all. It IS on topic. Please continue. I'm learning so much.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Byte Me:

---QUOTATION---

Tejas is pretty laid back and hugely polite about this, but we might need a different thread...

---END QUOTATION---

Nope. Learning so much from both of you. This is perfect for me to have feedback from anyone kind enough to do so.

---QUOTATION---

As in Outskirts later on, AFTER the blowout, you can get ANY local 'flyboys' to traverse the Oasis to their doom. You might get a spawn too - but I sure as hell ain't going in there to get it.

---END QUOTATION---

Choppers? Oasis? I don't understand what you are trying to say.

---QUOTATION---

Good fruggin' grief! "Crash" was an early wiki admin. He went off in a huff when I pulled him up about inserting then-unreleased Developer's Cut content that he was playing in alpha. At the time I thought that there had been enough 'early disclosure' just with LA, why do the same for LADC?

As far as I can determine, he's also a sponsor for the game. Albeit the devs made his character very 'crashable' (v1.4002-5) and now apparently a bit FUBARED if his retinue get retired.

How the wheel turns...

---END QUOTATION---

Is "Crash" the Dead City Trader? Who is "Hash" in the 100 Rads Bar? He has no dialogue and faces the wall. Waste to put unique people in the Bar or other places that do nothing and say nothing.

---QUOTATION---

I farm Zombies. Those artys in the lower half of the map?
Below Bandit Mines there are NO boltholes. And you can't "run off the map" like previously during a Blowout. Is there a "disco ball" wierdo thingy there? Asking for a friend..

---END QUOTATION---

What is a Bolthole? Disco Ball? I'm lost on what you are trying to say on this.

---QUOTATION---

Weapons to avoid like herpes:
Eliminator (fubared for no good reason)
Threaded SPAZ Blaster (unlike the ordinary blaster this ONLY fires slugs and darts. Won't accept cheapo buckshot. Ever)
Bulldog-6 m209 variant. Ivancov ponies this POS as a part reward if you Join Duty. Has the firepower of a Makarov (really) and the recoil of a sniper SVDm. Unload and stash or drop.

---END QUOTATION---

Good to know.

---QUOTATION---

I wanted to buy a Veles from Sakharov but until I turned the Scorcher off he wasn't interested in selling it. Costs abt 60000 and another 40000 to tweak. Since I was in Pripyat Under by then - there didn't seem much point in looking him up... Went to the end with the Echo jobbie. Does the dirt.

---END QUOTATION---

More good to know.

---QUOTATION---

+1000000

---END QUOTATION---

You can PayPal me.

Just did the Forest Documents. Will elaborate in "The Forest Act IV" coming soon.

---QUOTATION---

This is just dev laziness spoiling the game for a ha'porth of tar'.
Context is everything in an immersive environment.
Considering that this merely involves teeny txt or xml edits just to give MPCs a few relevant talking points - WITHOUT NEEDING A GAME RESTART for such trivia - it's beyond the pale that there wasn't a 'minor fix-it department' staffed by a Zombie at Dez0wave. User S.C.A.R. right here found over a hundred bugz in v1.4005. Just about everything was ignored because the devs use FartBook and other Kool-Aid goal seeking webtrash.

---END QUOTATION---

What? I can guess FartBook is Facebook.

The reality is modern Social Media has made this Forum obsolete. All the young people are on Reddit or Facebook. I go to Lost Alpha ( private, you have to ask to join - I'm an Admin ) on Facebook because that's where Dez and other Dez0wave members hang out.

I don't do Reddit. I used to post there but a mob of persistent people there just wanted to ridicule and harass everything I said. I didn't understand it at first and if you dared to defend yourself, their behavior got worse. I finally figured out why. Reddit is all about the generation that got a trophy as a child for everything including participation.

If you post there, it's all a contest for others to try to be funny, sarcastic and/or confrontational. Why? That's their trophy. If you dare to defend yourself, you are attempting to take away their trophy. That means their childish behavior intensifies and the most immature people become the most vocal. That's why it has no real long term community. People I met were gone the next year. People I met a year later were soon gone too except for the worst of the worst.

Facebook is good because there's no trophy/point system. Nothing but adult minded people behaving like adults. I frequent here and there.

---QUOTATION---

I think the Claw anomaly was a CoP thing, right?
Are you meaning the swirly gas cloud thing?
I avoid insta-death anomalies and move on. Pragmatically.

I think you figured out this was the Amoeba.

I look forward to all these better armors and equipment. Please tell me the fastest suits.

---END QUOTATION---

No Anomaly Detector? Aren't they eventually free?

---QUOTATION---

I died DOZENS of times! But it was lots of fun doing Darkscape just to RPG the damned helis.

Running on, I came across a little house with an ELITE detector in it..

---END QUOTATION---

Thanks for the heads up.

---QUOTATION---

That used to be how you picked up an early Oboakan or better.
Now you get junk <insert reason here>
You can't pick up a sensible scope (ask TS)
The lampost anomaly is easy to catch mutes in - and has some good spawn chances...
Otherwise, dunno.
Incidentally, IFF you join Duty, have a chat to the Arena guard. Duty get a free VIP pass (I kid you not)

---END QUOTATION---

Lamppost Anomaly?

---QUOTATION---

The devs are bastards, but in a colourful way.
I actually fall into the subset of humanity that you allude to.
Absolutely NO offense taken!
But I see your point...

I hate the Karlito ( what I call Bear ) and hope it's completely gone.

---QUOTATION---

The Brain Vat jig got a bit old. FAR too much gophering.
But at least I get this swanky black sci-suit (SSP-10/100)
But I see your point...
Personally it never affected me. I'm far too burnt out to care.

---END QUOTATION---

What?

---QUOTATION---

Selling Mutant parts seems only to pay big bux with Sacky. But it's worth the trip.

---END QUOTATION---

I just made my 7th or 8th run.

---QUOTATION---

So do I.
The game eventually descends into a knife fight as seen in v1.4005.
Enough rupture protect and you slash mutants, with enough bulletproofing - Zombifieds are a stab before exiting the map. Take your pick.

Bloodsuckers are tougher. Bring a pump-action. Tends to work.

---END QUOTATION---

I tried to knife the Dwarf. I kept missing while it savaged me.

---QUOTATION---

It took long enough.
Most seems to work.. Reasonably priced too.
Getting the 'data' may be a bitch.
Toolkits may be problematic...

---END QUOTATION---

Aren't they always?

---QUOTATION---

Yes. Start in Cordon with the scripted Flesh. Kill the swine 50 times if necessary.
Move on to the Trade Route Tunnel zombies. Milk.

---END QUOTATION---

What? I totally missed the artifact from this action. Guess a Loner grabbed it.

---QUOTATION---

I think Tejas Stalker is being very kind to us. TY TS.

---END QUOTATION---

Thanks for being here. I'm open to all feedback, tips and spoilers.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

The Forest: Act IV

That night after leaving the Forest and making a visit to Seriy for my reward, I continued south to the Cordon for a quick few jobs. I spent the night there. The next day the Guide jumped me to the Garbage Hangar. Did a few more jobs for Seriy. Soon I was walking north to Rostok. It was around 10am and with nothing else pressing to do, I decided to return to the Forest. I arrived around 11am to a small Bandit attack but the Boars were uninterested. I decided to snipe most of them from the Duty Tower and then went out to loot. Paulie the Stew stood in the same place. He said he was still tired. I made another Manual Save around 12:30pm.

It was somewhat foggy. I stood in the Duty Tower waiting. It soon cleared shortly. I continued to wait. It started raining. I waited. Hours passed and at about 16:30pm a Blowout hit. I went inside with the others and afterward made another Manual Save. Then I thought about it. I decided to do something some may consider cheating but I simply don't care. I have very little time to Game with things going on in real life and I decided to take advantage of my new knowledge. I decided to reload my Game at 12:30pm and make a dash to the Bandit Mines.

I reduced my load to sprinting speed and took off east repeating my path towards the Zombie village. Instead of going behind it to the north, I cut south directly across the western entrance of it. Immediately I heard a Bloodsucker and I ran up the hill with it breathing down my neck. I topped the hill and turned around suddenly to face it. In a split second I was grabbed and my shotgun went off. Amazingly in another split second I snapped out of it and it was laying dead at my feet. I must have gotten it point blank in the face. First time that had ever happened in it's grip.

With no time to ponder my luck I continued to race southward. I spotted an artifact and the temptation was too great not to grab it. Now I was above the non-stop sprinting threshold. I figured either eating/drinking or shooting ammo would get me back below soon. I passed the Flesh grazing on the same hill where four other Flesh lay dead. I passed down the hill where the radiation was high just east of the Electro Oasis. Soon I came to the road.

I crossed the road and ran up the hill and saw the wall of the Bandit Mine. I kept the nearby Tower blocked by trees so I couldn't be seen. I got closer and closer and was now against the wall. No Bandits detected yet. I quickly made my way along the wall until I rounded the corner, continued on and was soon at the open gate entrance. Still no detections. I ran inside the sentry booth and immediately spotted two large green cans of fuel. This now made 1 can in the first Zombie village. 2 cans in a stash in the second Zombie village. 2 cans here. Good to remember when I would drive later. Maybe.

I went around to the first large building and got on the roof by ladder. Still no detections and I was beginning to think that perhaps I was all alone here. That was not expected. I was expecting to fight Bandits and some Mine Mutants. I went down and inside the first building. Some supplies here and there and then I saw the first Document on a table. I had momentarily forgotten about Petrenko's job. I was just here for that double-mail Bandit Jacket Nimble wanted. Didn't I already give that to him once?

So now I was searching for Documents. The Game would acknowledge each one and ask to keep looking? I did the first building and moved to the next. Found two more and other supplies. I went to the Tower building and found the Office door locked. I looked at the time and was doing good. However the thought crossed my mind I hope inside the Office was not the only Blowout safe place other than the Mines themselves. That would suck to die outside a locked door.

I moved on to the last building where I had an activated stash. I found the last of the Documents and used the stash, containing another gas can, to store all the excess supplies I found but for some dumb reason I took the Mosin-Nagant Rifle. Time to move on to the Mines. Funny how it is well lit until you take a few steps forward and suddenly it's like someone dimmed the lights. My Night Vision was garbage so I used my headlamp. I was experiencing none of the Mutants or events I had read about on the Wiki so I assumed a first trip found the entire complex empty. The Wiki says to avoid making two trips, wait until some later time to get the Documents and meet all the Bandits & Mutants at the same time. I was good not doing it that way. There's simply too much loot to manage in one trip with found supplies and looting bodies at the same time.

To my huge disappointment, the found Bandit Jacket was ordinary and not what Nimble wanted. The wooden crates I busted in the lower level produced no artifacts. It was time to leave. I got back to the main buildings at the entrance and looked at the time. It was 15:50pm. I had 40 minutes until the Blowout. I didn't want to risk the locked Office door being my demise and I didn't want to go back to the Mines. I decided to make a dash to the Electro Oasis.

I arrived to heavy Fire Poltergeist infestation. This time they were angry and tried to flame me. Several floated into the electrical field and exploded as they tried to stop me getting under it's protection. I was now in place and the Blowout arrived right on schedule. No new artifacts so I quickly got moving again much the same way I had come before. I killed the Flesh this time and cautiously passed in front of the Zombie Village as I spied more Fire Poltergeists swarming the road through the trees. I made good time, though overloaded as I had to stop often for my stamina to refresh.

Back at the Duty Compound right before dusk. Again no reason to stay so I loaded up with loot, mutant parts and artifacts and other supplies for the short run back to Rostok. Soon I was before Colonel Petrenko to get my rewards. I decided there was still enough light to make another run to Yantar but that's another adventure. It looks like my Forest story was over...until that future second trip.

Some pointers and observations

As you've noticed, the wiki is often contradictory or of less use for the v1.4007 player than would be wished. There are several reasons for this:

1) The 1.4007 game has been out for a month.
2) The wiki is up to date for versions 1.30013 to 1.4005 with some additions for v1.4007, but it's a WIP as any wiki is.

To that end we're ALL learning what the devs have foisted on us this time, and things that aren't going to get documented very quickly are:

a) The crappy PRM weapon pack
b) The suits
c) The artifacts (daft names that didn't need changing)
d) The food / meds rewrites that DESPERATELY have to be CoP-like for no reason.
e) The daft gameplay where reloading drops you out of 'run-mode'..
f) And probably many others.

So use it for reference purposes with the provisos noted above^^.

I can say that the following artys have helped me enormously:

1) Bulletproofing. Goldfish, Cuttlefsh, Droplets and Gravi.
2) Rupture: Night Star, Fungus ("Toadstool"
3) Telepathy: Stone flower, Slug, Green Beads.
4) Burn: Pellicle, Spine (very useful in the endgame)
5) Radiation PROTECT: Shell, Urchin.
6) Radiation REDUCE: Jellyfish, Ball of Twine ("Knot" , Bubble, Pupil.
7) Weight carry: Bouquet, Soother, Mama's Beads ("Brown Beads"
8) Endurance: Jewel, Snowflake.

Most other artys are eye candy imho.

Suits and weaponry are very diverse and player specific, but I have found the Spiner Obo / Chaser combo very cost effective and the Heavy Tourist suit / SSP-100 combo priceless for mobility reasons (you need a NON spacesuit armour to be able to wear the psi helmets...)

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Byte Me:

Tejas is pretty laid back and hugely polite about this, but we might need a different thread...

Nope. Learning so much from both of you. This is perfect for me to have feedback from anyone kind enough to do so.

As in Outskirts later on, AFTER the blowout, you can get ANY local 'flyboys' to traverse the Oasis to their doom. You might get a spawn too - but I sure as hell ain't going in there to get it.

Choppers? Oasis? I don't understand what you are trying to say.

---END QUOTATION---

I must have been drunk. After the Elec Oasis blowout, running around the EO lures the Pyros in to their death (which you found useful later) The same situation exists at a radioactive dump in Outskirts where you lue them through the Electros.

Is "Crash" the Dead City Trader? Who is "Hash" in the 100 Rads Bar? He has no dialogue and faces the wall. Waste to put unique people in the Bar or other places that do nothing and say nothing.

---END QUOTATION---

Yep, Crash is the DC "secret trader" No clue who Hash is.

---QUOTATION---

I farm Zombies. Those artys in the lower half of the map?
Below Bandit Mines there are NO boltholes. And you can't "run off the map" like previously during a Blowout. Is there a "disco ball" wierdo thingy there? Asking for a friend..

What is a Bolthole? Disco Ball? I'm lost on what you are trying to say on this.

---END QUOTATION---

A bolthole is somewhere to hide out during Blowouts. South of Bandit Mine there's NOTHING. You can't even run to the level changer (disallowed for v1.4007)

There were three 'Disco Ball' artys introduced for DC - one is near the Forest / DV gate but doesn't always spawn. The others look like this:

[https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Levitron] and
[https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/The_heart_of_the_psi-zone]

No idea what they're for.

Good to know.

More good to know.

So that's the [https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Find_the_documents_(Forest) Forest Documents] subthread? Do you need to grab the piece at the 'old entrance to X18' as well? Just trying to pin this down.

---QUOTATION---

Just did the Forest Documents. Will elaborate in "The Forest Act IV" coming soon.

---END QUOTATION---

You look to have aced that (post below)
The "Old entrance doc" is separate.

---QUOTATION---

If you post there, it's all a contest for others to try to be funny, sarcastic and/or confrontational. Why? That's their trophy. If you dare to defend yourself, you are attempting to take away their trophy. That means their childish behavior intensifies and the most immature people become the most vocal. That's why it has no real long term community. People I met were gone the next year. People I met a year later were soon gone too except for the worst of the worst.

Facebook is good because there's no trophy/point system. Nothing but adult minded people behaving like adults. I frequent here and there.

---END QUOTATION---

I look at this as "Weaponized Internet".
This is why I just don't do social media. Too much narcissism.
There is a lost generation that have turned into devolved trolls.
There are rumours that if you take seven of them, they may be able to change a lightbulb. Or know someone who can.

---QUOTATION---

I think the Claw anomaly was a CoP thing, right?
Are you meaning the swirly gas cloud thing?
I avoid insta-death anomalies and move on. Pragmatically.

I think you figured out this was the Amoeba.

---END QUOTATION---

Yeah! It's mostly been removed from the map. Still kills you if you stay too long in it. Now untriggerable with bolts as you note.
Used to roll Fuel Barrels into them for laughs.

---QUOTATION---

I look forward to all these better armors and equipment. Please tell me the fastest suits.

---END QUOTATION---

The SSP-100 runs at 160% of any other sprint speed. It's a one-off for Nimble, but he gives you a key to get a second copy. Unless you're good at jumping and not afraid of heights. The article is valid.

No Anomaly Detector? Aren't they eventually free?

---END QUOTATION---

Noooo they're not. I didn't like the price Sid wanted for the Simple Anom Detec. So toughed it for a few days..

---QUOTATION---

I died DOZENS of times! But it was lots of fun doing Darkscape just to RPG the damned helis.

Running on, I came across a little house with an ELITE detector in it..

Thanks for the heads up.

---END QUOTATION---

---QUOTATION---

That used to be how you picked up an early Oboakan or better.
Now you get junk <insert reason here>
You can't pick up a sensible scope (ask TS)
The lampost anomaly is easy to catch mutes in - and has some good spawn chances...
Otherwise, dunno.
Incidentally, IFF you join Duty, have a chat to the Arena guard. Duty get a free VIP pass (I kid you not)

Lamppost Anomaly?

---END QUOTATION---

Between 1.3003 and 1.4002 Artifact Spawns were introduced. This is current to 1.4005, after which there is some jiggery pokery with what spawns variously - the "lamppost anomaly" is the infobox pic that you will recognize probably instantly.

The easiest way to exploit it is after Duty push off.
After getting the mutes to charge you, standing by the "lamppost" is safe territory.
Making a hard save at this point allows you to kill them until you get the desired spawn.
Tedious? A bit. But golden to know.

The devs are bastards, but in a colourful way.
I actually fall into the subset of humanity that you allude to.
Absolutely NO offense taken!
But I see your point...

What?

---END QUOTATION---

The Brain Vat is where you find the SSP-100 for Nimble

And it's a LOT of gophering. But worth it.

---QUOTATION---

Selling Mutant parts seems only to pay big bux with Sacky. But it's worth the trip.

I just made my 7th or 8th run.

---END QUOTATION---

Good man. There's a nice little side-economy going there.

---QUOTATION---

I tried to knife the Dwarf. I kept missing while it savaged me.

---END QUOTATION---

Load some Rupture artys (see intro^^)

It took long enough.
Most seems to work.. Reasonably priced too.
Getting the 'data' may be a bitch.
Toolkits may be problematic...

Aren't they always?

---QUOTATION---

Yes. Start in Cordon with the scripted Flesh. Kill the swine 50 times if necessary.
Move on to the Trade Route Tunnel zombies. Milk.

What? I totally missed the artifact from this action. Guess a Loner grabbed it.

---END QUOTATION---

That's the little cutscene near the beginning of the game where Sid gives his "think about it man" voiceover.

If you save just before launching the scene, you can run the flesh through it while you watch your console for spawn info as many times as you like.

I think Tejas Stalker is being very kind to us. TY TS.

Thanks for being here. I'm open to all feedback, tips and spoilers.

No. Veles/Sin does not take your money.

I appear have run into a defective script.
Dark Valley / Free the Dutier from the bandit cell

Never had a problem with this quest before. I suspect that the issue is that I didn't talk to him before unlocking the door.

I opened the door and he came out. After a bit, he went out behind the building and stands there. I can't talk to him to complete the quest. Had to leave him.

Just to be sure, I cleaned out the building in case a remnant bandit was the problem and he is the only NPC showing.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

I remember in Clear Sky you would lose all your money in the mugging. It was an effort to spend it all before that action. I would usually go crazy with upgrades of weapons and armor at the Freedom Base. One time I got mugged and only had 1 ruble. Another Game I had 0 rubles. The best part was if you made friends ( friendly green ) with the Bandit Faction prior to this event, the two Bandits that mugged you were only neutral yellow and not enemy red when you caught up with them. I could actually take a job from them. In one Game I made them attack another position where they were easily killed.

Currently I have about 250,000 rubles in LADC. That's when I suddenly realized the Sin mugging might make that windfall vulnerable. I do know from before ( if it's still accurate ) that the Bandit Trader sell 5.45 BP really cheap and it's a good idea to stock up on it and stash it. I want to hang on to as much money as possible for when I get better armor later.

I don't know about the Dutyer in the jail cell. You may be right it is always good to talk to people first if possible. Could be similar to the rescue Nimble problem in the Cordon where he runs out and I took off in another direction not realizing there was more because the PDA prompts were more brief than the actual steps needed. Certainly a Manual Save before would be the way to find out if that should have been done differently.

I still didn't get an answer on my other questions. After the mugging there are two exits to leave the Mines. Do I have the option to use either? Am I required to leave Darkscape in a specific direction? In other words can I go to the Cordon or go back to the Dark Valley? I need to know what is restricted ( if any ) to these two choices so that I can plan where to put my better gear after being reduced to the shit gear. Thanks.

You have a quest to find the alternative exit to the mine and it's satisfied once you exit. This is the closest exit to Cordon and you want to search the structures where you exit. There is no reason why you couldn't go back into the mine and exit the mine via the railroad tracks where you entered.

Note that the 'Free the Dutier' quest is triggered by returning to Dark Valley by the way that you originally entered Darkscape. I understand that if you go to Cordon, you lose that quest (although I haven't tested this). You could go to Cordon, then go to Dark Valley, go through the Darkscape portal and immediately back into Dark Valley to see if that triggers the 'Free the Dutier' quest. So many possibilities.
