LA Developer's Cut v1.4007
---QUOTATION--- Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary
I'm actually in the middle of moving as I bought a new house.
However I have made huge progress in my Game but probably not in the typical expected way. I still have not done anything in the Dark Valley other than talk to Oleg Gusarov, of which afterward I left. I really wanted a PSO-1 scope. However no one will sell one. I basically have been going back and forth between the Cordon and Rostok doing jobs and earning money. Discovered that going to the Wild Territory was a lot of fun meeting the two pockets of Bandit occupation and killing mutants.
I was lucky that I used a Guide in Rostok factory for a jump to the Construction level where I appeared at the Loner base and got the password to visit the Mercenaries. There I bought a Susat scope for a repaired TRs-301 I had. I had this briefly before I discovered Lost Alpha responds to an old trick I learned. I went to Boris in Rostok who had an Eliminator ( only one I've seen ) and I sold him a sawn-off shotgun. This action made him switch to it and I was able to buy his Eliminator.
Unfortunately the Eliminator is crap. It loads way too slow. Has minimal damage and is way less effective as the Chaser-13 which I went back to using. Using the same trick on Oleg Gusarov, I sold him the really long shotgun ( strangely not listed on the Lost Alpha Wiki ) and he quickly switched to it, letting me buy the prized improved optics Sniper Obokon. This trick didn't work on Brome though.
The other best thing that happened to me was discovering a trick to go to Yantar early. A trip to Yantar enabled me to sell all the surplus Mutant parts I had been hoarding. I bought and upgraded the Bear detector. However getting the Fine Tools in Yantar was the real reward. With it I upgraded almost all the tiers on the Sunrise 3 suit, my Bison & AKS-74U SMGs, the Chaser-13 and the Sniper Obokan. These basic weapons upgrade farther than their more expensive counterparts.
So now with the Bear detector, I actually started finding artifacts. I had to attack the Agroprom Military Base 3 times. The first time to get the hard case. The second time to get some rifle Nimble wanted. I wasn't even aware Nimble gave jobs because I couldn't wake him up. I read on Facebook about Nimble jobs and prodded him until he gave them to me. I didn't do the Cordon Military Base until afterward too which should be done before the Agroprom. As you can probably guess, my 3rd trip to the Agroprom Military Base was to retrieve the 7 documents I had overlooked and only realized my error when the PDA task would not complete and the Lost Alpha Wiki helped me figure that one out.
I've finally reached number 19 on the always moving up Top 20 Stalkers list. Number one has reached over 2,000 while I'm in the 1,400 range. I've earned 6 points where I placed the first 4 points evenly across the 4 categories and have since added a point to "Bartering" and the other to "Survivor".
I think I've made 3 runs to Yantar and about to do the 4th. I always have to clear out the Wild Territory first and I have always used the Guide to jump back to Rostok. I guess that about brings things up to date.

Oh, well done.
Hunting for a PSO-1 scope is a bit of a pain at this stage of the game.
I also found that some looted PSO-1 lookalikes are not useable in the desired manner.
I like that the old "rifle sucker-trade" is still doing the rounds. Oleg's Sniper Obakan would probably be your best acquisition. Been to the end of the game with that piece... (you can also get it by getting the heli to strafe the Pig Farm, but it's difficult)
Check on the Eliminator. It's total crap. Don't know why players rave about it. Won one off a Mono somewhere on Oldroad level. Upgraded it and took it for a test toast...
You can die three times while reloading it. Went back to the tweaked Chaser after a few days. Muuuuch more useful piece.
Just for this game, I've left the Wild Territory infestation alone for observation purposes (sprint past everything in the axle-greased SSP-10)
Just stir them up now and then as I run to Yantar.
My 'combat suit' is a Heavy Tourist Suit that almost has mid-level creds. About to test that theory in salubrious Pripyat.
Gripes:
Anomaly Fields have a blocking arty, but do not function further (no arty spawns every 100 minutes)
Quick bandage / medkit slowing your actions and generally messing you around.
Exploiting 1.4007 DC as best as I can. I will NEVER, EVER use a "cheat pack" - a game lives or dies on its gameboard. Best of luck, stalker...

Yeah, getting the PSO-1 scope in Rostok off of a dead Duyter only to find out it was Groza only was a huge disappointment. That actually goes against the entire design of the PSO-1 scope made to go on many things. Just a cheap trick. Eventually helping the Dutyers in Garbage fight all the rampant Boars, where most of them eventually get killed, yielded an activated stash from a body, that was right next to Seriy in the Garbage Hangar. Inside it was the PSO-1 that at the very least Barkeep should have sold. However by default, my LA 1.4007 came with an added weapons Mod so I'm not sure if that Mod made the PSO-1 not for sale with the Traders. Also not sure if the same Mod made the Cordon Military Sniper lose his SVD for an SKS or if the Bandit Sniper in Garbage lost his AK-74 with scope and had it replaced with a hunting shotgun. Mod or change in 1.4007? I do not know since I have not done other DC versions.
There's no reason for the Eliminator to be crap. It's the best shotgun ever in all 3 retail Games. It's the best shotgun in every Mod that I've played when it's been available. Reloading it by hand inserting shells should be no huge difference than the Chaser or Eliminator. I recently picked up a brand new SPSA-14 from a dead Zombified Stalker in Yantar ( shot by a Dutyer as it approached their compound ) so I grabbed it and took it back to Fox who is the only Repair Tech I have that has the Fine Tools. It's ridiculous there's no Repair Tech in Rostok who will do upgrades unless you join Duty. Especially so since I had no idea not killing the Sin in Garbage meant I would be locked out from a whole range of Duty activities. Not that I ever joined Duty in my earlier LA Games but I always took their missions to prove myself which yielded good rewards.
Anyway, I noticed immediately the SPSA-14 loads lightning fast. It has good damage, shoots quickly and has a greater capacity than the Chaser. The only thing I can reason is one of the Dezowave people ( or again that weapon Mod I keep wondering about ) just don't like the Eliminator to turn it into a pile of crap. The strange decisions and whims of Modders never cease to amaze me. Perhaps there will be some unique Chaser to make me go back to it.
Which brings up another subject. Mole quickly died and I grabbed his upgraded pistol. I sold it. Then later Nimble started offering me jobs to retrieve special weapons and armor. They aren't "redded" out like you can't accidently sell them. In fact, the first armor Nimble had me fetch was the double mail Bandit jacket I got early in the Game at the Factory and had even upgraded it slightly. Good thing I didn't sell it. I just wish the Nimble jobs had more protection to keep the Player from selling/losing them.
I've heard there's a Tourist Suit in the Game, which was my all time favorite armor in SoC, but that it cannot be upgraded to improve it. Is this accurate? While there are a lot of armors in LADC 1.4007, I'm not impressed with the upgrade trees. The Sunrise 3, 4 and 5 are identical upgrade paths and only the initial stats make any difference. Making it so difficult to get the higher Tools and the suits so expensive, make 90% of the armors not worth the effort due to their poorly designed upgrade tiers. While the upgrade paths are a huge improvement over the crude and limited LA 1.3003 versions, they still lack the complexity and variety of upgrades found in Clear Sky, Call of Pripyat or the Call of Chernobyl Mod.

The v1.4007 game has the "PRM weapon pack" hardwired into it. This is the source of many of our gripes. The creator appears to be a triumvirate of basement dwelling enthusiasts (I'm being polite) who introduced the world of LA to their agenda to quietly turn the game from an ambivalently received v1.4005 (I blogged it as the Misery Mod) to a final release.
To do this they invented a novel development cycle where they combined PRM with DLC gameplay (whatever that is) in a series of "addons" - changed everything and made sure that the recent release OVERWROTE what had previously been available at ModDB (no possibility of legacy verification...) at which point I put a moratorium on documenting their crap on the wiki.
(In the real world, this this sort of "change everything simultaneously" approach also worked really well for the McClaren F1 team)
If they couldn't make up their minds where a toolkit variation or a flashdrive was, that's one thing. But to play games with the availability of a mod - that's a Tark of a different colour.
Before playing 1.4007 I had a 'one-off' with 'v1.4006 PRM + DLC' just to bring me up to speed.
It was about what I expected, not much fun, "SKS" tripe on the Cordon and Bandit snipers. No PSO-1 scope off Barkeep early game.. Running Wild Territory to Forgotten and Yantar gate much more enervating than in v1.30013 - 4002, but the bloody SSP-99M was degraded to 16% bulletproof.
In v1.4007 it's been removed from the board....

Yeah, there's an unholy load of running here, running back, kill the other , cough (as you die) and come back for your three bandages and a bottle of water.
JOINING DUTY.
I haven't explored this very much, but in the early game the Sin House just loses its residents. They 'bug-out' inexplicably. No more bringing the doggies through the house to be blasted by Sin (while you watch from a chest of drawers - and who knows, maybe a Sin gets hit "grey on grey" as a sidie)..
So you think "No chance of JOINING DUTY for me then.." And move on..
Much later on, after repeatedly asking Martinet Voronin if he 'knows anything' -- a casual convo gives the "I want to Join Duty" option.
I THINK that I had completed the Expedition and Yantar documents subroutines. But I was mostly completed with everything MadDog like pre heliraid (which would have had Voronin do his own 'bug-out' and probably nerfed the jig. So provisionally, - it ain't the same.
On a positive note: the highly derided entry requirement for Joining Duty (unprovoked attack on neutral parties early in the game) appears to be moot.
ABT the Eliminator.
There's just no excuse for this other than SPITE.
The same applied to the Vintar BC up to 1.4002 (where it was fixed)
Shot like a bloody corkscrew.
TECHNICIANS
Some are more equal than others...
I leave Ivancov alone. I'll WALK to Cordon before paying his prices.
Fox is your main man. Always cheap. Always cheerful. Always open.
But at the bottom of the map....
Not inordinately expensive to 'guide' to him, but a nuisance use of resources.
Try to develop CHEF. Might be useful in the later game.
Doc, Herstel, Guide and Kruglov are all repairmen (you can leave Guide as a 'retainer' in the Sewers if you know your way. Otherwise he will bug-out from the map forever. Just 'meet him' - but find your own way...

LOL.
I just took it as more proxy-Dezowave BS and went back to my Chaser 7-shot. I never fitted the 100% fire rate mod. But it's a yuuuuge improvement on this crappy Eliminator (oh wait, THE PLAYER gets ELIMINATED during reload? Funny. Must be a virtual basement insider joke)
That pretty much is how you have to treat the current offerings from the devs: use what works. Take something better off something else.
Evolve or die trying.

My heart sank when I saw Nimble doing this Trade Tunnel to Rookie Village saunter that had been such a bone of contention in 1.4002.
But he only does it ONCE and then sleeps for a week (unless kicked) and doesn't die inexplicably. (Oh yes - ALL of this was observed in 1.4002-5)
He doesn't want Mole's shortarm. No mission as far as I know.
I don't understand why the gear that he wants isn't redded out. More dev humour??
I just make sure that that Mail Jacket (which I've been known to take to Dolina in the past) is seriously shagged by the time I hand it over. Same with the other suits (he gets the knackered SSP100/10 suit - I keep the copy)

There is a Tourist suit indeed. AND a HEAVY Tourist suit. I know this to be true because it's enough to get to the end (with a few support rocks)
See the other Oleg after your return from Dead City. The reward used to be a SEVA suit. Now it's a Tourist suit. Carries an xtra 20kg, runs like a duck, might be useful in liberating TWO copies of a SSP-100..
The Heavy TS, might be available after the Merc raid on the Bar. I'm a bit hazy on this so apologies if it ain't.
All four are upgradeable...
I found a forgettable 'preacher monolith suit' behind a sofa in a barracks beyond many mutants (-30 telepathy) I just dropped it there and then ...
Many others - for 'free' - equally unremarkable.
