Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

New Update ( Part 2 )

I spent way too much money on weapon upgrades and basically went back to Garbage broke. I decided it was time to head up to the Garbage Hangar and visit Seriy. I stayed on the road and chose not to waste time or ammo on nearby Mutants. I met Yurik and we raced down parallel tunnels to come out for the Bandit ambush. I made sure to get far ahead of him to prevent his death if you let him go first or arrive at the same time. The first run of this was a success.

Lots of loot, sold what I could locally. Stashed the more damaged weapons to sell to Sidorovich later. Met with Seriy who gave me the Zombie job across the street. Did that and was back for reward but still not ready to push on to the Agroprom. Yes, I knew there was a Sunrise suit there in the Underground but I wanted to get one now and upgrade it as much as possible, not pick up one without the upgrades and have to carry it back. Having Wolf's key, I decided to move on to the Duty Checkpoint.

I was not prepared for what was to happen next. I knew there was a Boar charge coming with the Dutyers, but I got way more than I bargained for. I decided to travel maybe about a 100 feet or so to the west of the road. I thought I was staying clear of the wildlife on the other side of the road and that far to the west near the level wall. As I approached a fallen tree, I heard the grunt of some Boars and before I knew it a herd of them charged me. I climbed as high as I could on the branches but they came straight up them and knocked me off.

I had seen a popular video on Facebook of an LADC Boar charge where the Player was overwhelmed and killed. I expected the same. The Boars were bashing into me and I was blasting away with my newly purchased and upgraded Chaser. Point blank to the head was killing them in a shot or two. Getting knocked down around the base actually momentarily shielded me as I worked my way around again. I switched to the Bison with it's 64 round magazine on single shot to save ammo. After this savage attack, I could not believe I survived as I counted at least 8 Boar dead around the tree trunk. The elevated height had not been enough to keep me from harm as I spammed a couple of Medkits while under attack. I had learned the hard way that Medkits are slow to apply. If you wait until you are very, very low on health, you will die despite applying one.

From there I continued up to the Dutyers where I got the scripted Boar attack. I was hoping I had killed off some of them in my previous action but did not. Again the use of the Chaser, Bison and my AKS-74U ( also on single shot to not waste ammo ) I fought hard again and survived. To my surprise, in the woods where they came from, I found 3 dead Dutyers and 3 dead Bandits who the herd of Boars decimated right before their attack on me.

The Duty Commander rewarded me but said I could not pass. I knew I had to go to the Agroprom like in SoC to get the documents to pass. I talked to him again and he gave another option to take on more Mutants. It was the Flesh and Boars I knew were there far to the west. Again I found a dead Dutyer by the stream. I killed more Mutants and finally made it back. The Dutyer said I could pass through the gate and on to Rostok.

I was so happy and decided to take the huge amount of Boar, Flesh and other Mutant parts I had to make money from Barkeep. Little did I know that was a huge mistake.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

New Update ( Part 1 )

My 4th and 5th day were very productive. I had continued to do Sidorovich jobs for money and discovered that Wolf pays the highest for used weapons. Sidorovich was best for mutant parts and the rare to find artifacts since I have a potato for a detector and have yet for it to find one other than those visible without one. I finally scrounged enough money for either the Sunrise or Merc armor but suddenly Sidorovich stopped selling them after going to Garbage. Repeated trips to Garbage did not help. Reloading a Manual Save standing right in front of him ( like all the Stalker Games and Mods I am used to ) did not help either.

I had made a couple of trips into Garbage, not going really past the train tracks yet. I just wasn't ready to go to see Seriy without getting more supplies and maybe a better armor. I had consistent ammo shortages due to the unrestricted A-Life. Mainly Boars and Dogs I had to watch out for or each time I did a Sidorovich jobs against Mutants-on-the-spot, it always ate into my meager ammo reserves. Not getting a change to Sid's inventory from trips to Garbage, I decided to do something radically different. I went south to Rostok Factory.

The only Military soldiers I had killed were those at the Cordon Bridge. I wasn't going to take on any at the level changers ( yet, that is ) so I entered RF ( Rostok Factory ) and quickly went to the center and started scavenging for supplies. Very meager amounts found. No artifacts. Met two Dutyers in the village in the north. No Leader. Met the two Scientists in the tunnel with a new ( to me ) Loner Guide who gave me a restricted menu of where he could take me. I found a single dead Bandit near the Marshes. However the best thing that happened, totally making the trip worth it, was finding the Basic Tool set. Just a lesson to search inside the most dilapidated building no matter how insignificant it seems. Back to the Cordon and Sidorovich. The two armors still did not appear, even though the Military armor, Bandit Trenchcoat and others were available.

I really, really didn't want to but I used the money to buy a Chaser shotgun instead. That was 9,000+ rubles. Almost as much as the two suits I was eyeing. It turned out that was the best decision I could have ever made. More on that in a moment. I also used some extra funds to do more upgrades on the Chaser, my AKS-74U ( short AK ) and the Bison. I did find a brand new Viper but I'm not coming across enough ammo for it to make using it or upgrading it worth my time. I'm not going to use a weapon I have to exclusively buy ammo for. Hence why I don't carry around the SKS I got earlier despite repairing it and upgrading it's magazine. The Bison I got off a dead Military soldier who fell over dead when the Blowout hit at the Cordon Checkpoint, was a perfect weapon. Plenty of cheap ammo. Large 64 round magazine.

One of the new changes ( to me ) about Lost Alpha that I wasn't happy about was losing the ability to run and change ammo at the same time. Really? Like I can't slap a magazine in an AK or pistol as I'm running? That's like saying you can't walk and chew gum at the same time. I understand the reason...to make the Game harder. Likewise you can't really outrun all the Mutants. However using the small magazine on the sawn-off shotgun means you're gonna die if you can't reload it on the run and a pack of Boars or Dogs are on your tail.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

The 2nd play through is going well. The hard work that Dez0wave put into the graphics and the creation of intricate, detailed levels is finally realized with the removal of the horrible "Extended Weather v0.20", now that I can see things clearly and in full color. Likewise my earlier complaint about the rain being shitty in LADC 1.4007 was not entirely accurate. The rain is actually okay in color. What I didn't realize is the "Extended Weather v0.20" was making it look like crap. With that dull, grey film covering everything, it made the white lines of the rain look like static snow on an old black & white TV. Once that Mod was removed, it looks good and normal. Please do yourself a favor and delete the "Extended Weather v0.20" Mod.

My replay of course allowed me to do things better. I found two artifacts in the Zombie Tunnel I missed. I was able to kill the Bandit Sniper. I was able to time my travel to Garbage with a blowout and repeated the scene where 3 of the Military soldiers dropped dead and I was able to loot them to score a Bison. This time I didn't kill the lone guard that survived and had returned.

At this point I'm doing the bare minimum of upgrades on my weapons. Mainly the extended magazines first and then the weight reduction next. What I really need is better armor but I don't like the description of the Stalker ( Sunrise ) and the Merc armor. They sound like sub-standard versions of higher quality versions to be found elsewhere. I guess I need to finish Garbage and see what Barkeep might sell. Just as well since I don't really have the money anyway to buy now.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

I uninstalled the "DC 14.005 Darker Nights v1.01" and the "Extended Weather v0.20" and everything looked much better. I think it warned me I had to start a new Game but I ignored that. Everything was okay in Garbage until I went back to the Cordon. Once back in the Cordon I immediately got the Bug Trap report of a crash. It was related to the Extended Weather. That meant my Game would continue to crash without restoring it.

I re-installed it and was instantly immersed in that hideous grey film over everything. I could not believe how crude and terrible this Mod was. A weather Mod should change the weather. It should not act like a visual filter where a dull grey screen is placed on top of everything. My hands in front of me should not be a dull grey. My weapon should not be a dull grey. I have never experienced such an awful weather Mod like this. Who in the world thought this was an adequate approach? The fog was also very annoying. A grey film on everything with a crappy fog atmosphere.

Call of Chernobyl uses an excellent weather Mod that you can adjust for sun, rain, fog and other conditions. It's fog was so much better but I'm really just not a fan of any fog but the bare minimum. I was so upset and disappointed with the "Extended Weather v0.20" Mod that I decided to give up all my progress, the weapons I looted, the tasks I completed and all I had accomplished just to be able to uninstall this shitty Mod and start a new Game.

I highly recommend NOT installing the "Extended Weather v0.20" Mod. This Mod absolutely sucks and is not worthy of being added to any Lost Alpha version, Directors Cut or not. This ranks as the worst Mod I have ever seen in almost 12 years of playing the Stalker Games and adding Mods.

So there you go. Starting over without that shitty grey film over everything.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

21:10:03 28 December 2018

Changes I have noticed is the Military Sniper at the top of the Cordon Train Bridge no longer has an SVD. Now he has an SKS. Not sure if that was a Dez0wave change or an added Mod by default. Likewise the Bandit Sniper in Garbage is not really a sniper. Before he had an AK with scope, hence he's a sniper. Now he has a Hunting shotgun. How does that make him a sniper? Can't shoot shit with that unless it's in your face.

I went to the Bloodsucker mission in the tunnel. Some Boars entered the tunnel and fought with the Bloodsucker, where it killed most of them ( about 4 ) and was weakened since I was able to get him with the sawn-off shotgun fairly easily. No complaint from me. The unrestricted A-Life, being Boars again killed the Loner I rescued from the 3 Bandits on the road. As soon as he entered the woods they got him.

Another thing I wanted to mention is the first time I approached the Military Checkpoint in the Cordon going to Garbage. Right as I did a Blowout hit. I started to go back to an earlier save where I had more time but I decided to see what would happen.

To my surprise, 3 of the Military soldiers dropped dead on the road with only 1 running away. I was able to loot 2 of them quickly where I picked up a slightly upgraded Bison shooting 9 x 18. The other one had a subbed AKS-74U. I was able to sprint after looting all the way to the Sin House. I was surprised I made it.

Later when I returned, the lone soldier was at the Checkpoint. I killed him and went to Garbage for the first time. I anticipate on the return they will probably be hostile to me.

I guess I have that added Mod ( by default ) with the unrestricted A-Life. Boars killed the Bandit Sniper in Garbage before I could even get to him. It's really easy for me to get killed by the A-Life. The one thing I don't like are some of the visual effects for weather. When it gets dark, the whole screen turns gray like a crappy cheap filter. Not really the type of darkness I prefer. Darkness should be darkness without feeling like a grey film is covering my eyes. Likewise the rain is shitty. It looks like the static on the screen of an old black & white TV. I wonder if this is one of the added weather mods by default.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

22:38:41 26 December 2018

After the Factory attack, I knew the vault door under the road where I met Petruha & Men going to the Cordon Underground would become unlocked. I had already gotten the automatic mission to attack the Zombies at the other end and had taken the "Find Nimble" mission.

What I didn't expect was to find him so easily behind one of the locked inner rooms that appeared to open after killing the last Poltergeist. Of course since I was a Dez0wave Tester for Lost Alpha two years prior to it's release, I already knew where to find the key to the wagon that will be asked of me to find at a later time.

Nimble ran away and I was headed to the back door entrance to the Zombie tunnel. The Zombies are way easier to kill than long ago. In Testing, it would take 200+ rounds to kill all the Zombies in the tunnel. That always sucked since the Game beginning doesn't offer that much ammo without exhausting every found round. I went back to Sidorovich and was unable to get the completion mission about Nimble from him.

I eventually discovered that Nimble was waiting for me in the underpass camp where I had entered. Despite having all the boxed checked except to get my reward on the PDA, I still had to have an additional dialogue with Nimble and escort him back to the Rookie Village and then I finally got the completion I sought.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

I decided to start my own thread on this to keep a running diary or thoughts as I play. FYI, I was a Dez0wave Tester for 2 years prior to it's release. I did play the first official release but once the patches started going out frequently requiring new Games, I quit playing as I was already burned out.

The Lost Alpha I played had the main mission but hardly any side quests. It had some anomalies and some artifacts but not the new range of armors, weapons and equipment I see. I'm really looking forward to this but I'm playing with the unrestricted A-Life which is a cool feature as long as it doesn't spoil my Game.

I'm going to move my earlier posts here:
