Byte Me:

Do you mind if I write up the GMF-Yantar levelchanger exploit?
full attrib to you of course, I always used the Construction-Yantar "jump" but yours could be easier very early in the game while the Wild Territory Controller hasn't spawned.

Just thinking strategically:
I could hit Yantar on day three mid-morning.
Bag the free OTs-14-4A 7.62mm and a PSO1 scope from some broken nearby bridge..
Hoof it to Agroprom via Construction.
Enter the Institute from the rear, take the roof, and pick off the Mils.

Won't work as well in PRM because the scope won't fit (you need ONLY some PO-4variant)

Byte Me

Sure you can credit me for that exploit. I was unaware that other people were not using it. It was always sketchy sharing earlier exploits in the Game, as Dez0wave would jump right on it and remove them. However I think we can expect little action in response at this time.

I was unaware that the PRM was the cause of having different PSO-1 scopes. That's a change I really hate and I was blaming Dez0wave. In fact due to the weapons I actually like to use, I see no reason to use the PRM Weapons Pack Mod as it gives more pain than pleasure.

Thanks for the additional information on the different versions.

If I'm not mistaken, I think it was 150 Posts needed to get an Avatar. All you have to do is post something here:

Will do. I already passed the info to a helpseeker who had unwisely "Joined Duty" and couldn't get to Yantar for a milk run mission. It will also end up on the "Badlands" page (equivalent to what you call Twilight Zones)

It isn't the PRM pack that creates all of the weird Warsaw Pact scopes - they are already in the game. What it does do is make it impossible to mount a bog-standard PSO-1 scope on that particular free Groza. It has to have the PO-somerubbishorother version. Highly infuriating.

But this is only the tip of the iceberg.
In 1.3003 that was the highly useful 3.2kg "Tunder" 5.45 that Barin had in SoC. Nice firepower. Used cheap, available ammo, took a standard scope.
Run to the end of the game with that jewel...

Now it has half of the firepower, uses rare-ish ammo, weighs 5.3kg, and if you play PRM (never again) you need a funny scope.

This sort of "balancing" really gets my goat.

So I forked my game back on Day three - and stashed it in Rostok (too heavy)

Played the game to the end again - and got very different results.

https://imgur.com/a/8JBCkki

All due to random arty spawns. If you wanted to "juggle your rocks" like some do, this "spawning balance" could seriously compromise your play.

I got very lucky with the earlier loadout. This one was good in places, mediocre in bulletproofing, telepathy...

Same game right?
Just different results.

+++++++++

LOL
Me get an avatar?
I will give it some thought. But is there an avatar daft enough?

I've even been known to extract "all.sav" and a few .sav and corresponding .dds files, but the all.sav is important, otherwise....

Byte Me

After reading this I got a bright idea. I took the all.sav from a new game I had started and replaced it with the all.sav from my re-installed Game that kept crashing. I launched my last good save and the Game didn't freeze up in launching and everything was working.

My Game was running smoothly. My Elite Detector was working. I saw water reflections that looked stunningly good and unfamiliar. I thought everything was back to normal when after about 5 minutes my Game froze. Task Manager told me my Game wasn't responding. I was unable to get any information why. No Bug Trap or anything.

When I used task Manager to close my Game, that left the Configurator still running. I noticed the little flag was highlighted yellow meaning updates available. I checked it and found 3 updates for all three of the mini-mods I was using including the PRM Weapon Pack. I realized from Dez's previous help, this was probably why my Game was freezing.

I updated the Mods and launched my Game. Sure enough my Elite Detector went back to being broken. The thought then crossed my mind, the reason I had momentarily got my Game to work was re-installing a fresh, new Configurator. Once I started playing, at the same time I am guessing, the Configurator accesses the internet, discovers the updates and intentionally makes my Game non-functioning ( crashes and/or freezes ) as a way of forcing the Player to comply.

This is the worst design I have ever seen. The forced updates are not tested. As I have had my Elite Detector broken for several weeks now, obviously others have not had this problem or the owner of the PRM Weapon Pack creating the update is unaware of his bad update.

So another idea comes to me. What if I replace my updated Configurator with another fresh one and then block internet access to my Computer as I launch the Configurator ( preventing it from knowing about any updates ) and then launching my Game with the working Elite Detector? Would this work? Would this solve my problems? Has anyone thought of or tried a similar work around?

Of course this would require me to ALWAYS cut-off internet access before launching and playing my Game. That would require a lot of discipline and patience.

If you have a third party firewall you might be able to block the Configurator in it.

That's exactly what I'm doing albeit manually. I'm using Zone Alarm ( Firewall and Anti-Virus ) so you are right, I could go in and adjust the individual settings for that program and not have to do it manually each time. Good idea. Thanks.

How forked is your game?? variation two.

As far as I am concerned utilizing anything on the board is fair game.
Using a cheat or hackpack isn't my fancy. I look for other solutions to my problems that seem consistent with the game. If someone digs running around in an exo with 2000kg of luggage, that's great! - for them.

I try to write some of this discovered crap up as well, because my memory isn't what it was, the handbook to the game isn't worth a toss TBH, and maybe I can find what I don't even remember forgetting (?) in another place.

So I had another look at the "Day Three Yantar" exploit that TS had dropped on me. And then I remembered https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Badlands (Twilight Zones to him)

And THEN I remembered that these are a serious exploit in LA.

Not the least of which is using what was a sniper tower in SoC to leap onto a platform roof, then another roof, a bit of side jumping and into the Badlands...

Even easier in LA or LADC.

And then run round to the BACK of this dodgy levelchanger:

https://imgur.com/gallery/Yz5uHvJ

(Obviously you make a save JIC you "overstep" and get defaulted back into the Wild Territory to be drilled by Bandits who wandered over while you trot over to the LC) In the minimap is that anomaly by the "pipe fireball" with my actor being the white dot. So essentially it works out as an approach from a diametrically opposite direction from that described by TS.

You just have to appreciate the symmetry of level design like that. Well done Dezoder.

But wait - there's more..

Being out here in the Badlands on the "wrong side of the tracks" has other temptations than going to Yantar.

A pastoral run with ZERO other wildlife drops into Construction Site.
A similar run with a walk into the back of the levelchanger gets the player to Military Warehouses.

On Day three.

Running along the fence past the Gang Hideout drops the player into Dead City.

(The Radar LC is "blocked"

Running through DC is hilarious. There's a Trader, but the Secret traders have not yet been revealed. So he's "incognito".
All of the Mercs are just on patrol... wtf?

Levelchanger to Swamps is ... OPEN! (Defuse Heli nonsense out of habit)

Interestingly, these "opened" LCs become bidirectional for future use.
And it's still early afternoon on "Day three"

Looks like this game is totally forked.....

I suspect this is what happened to me too.

Started LA last night after month or so away, and launcher crashed, Started re-install, finished it this morn (original saved downloads), still crashing, found link to updated launcher on a Steam conversation. Works now, but Developer mode gone, and the re-install wiped out my tweaked-n-peaked gamedata....Is there some kind of Cum Guzzler newly excepted that is trying to be lord of gameplay?

@DarkMinds

I don't know why but there are two shortcuts to 1.4007 on my desktop.
One has the following appended to the target:

"-external -noprefetch -nospawncheck"

The other has:

" -external -noprefetch -nospawncheck -developer mode"

The second one has full dev mode.
HTH.

Nevermind, between Here and ModDB threads, It's the launcher someone stroked their dick over. Using -developer mode on a shortcut to XR_3DA.exe works fine. Latest Launcher ~Early Oct, No workee. Some Jackass at Dezowave is trying to control play style.

Changes..

Nope, doesn't work..Copy/pasted -external -noprefetch -nospawncheck -developer mode, And no worky.
I am using a configurator update I found through the steam forums dated around Oct. 7th, I think, that fixed the start-up crashing I had, which I now suspect had to do with starting the previous launcher while online.
