Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

There's another new post by me on the previous page.

* * * * *

Has anyone had trouble with Nimble's jobs? I started off with the double mail Bandit jacket that I got at the Factory, upgraded it and wore it for awhile. Then he wanted it and got it. Then he asked for a Viper that I would have never found if not for the Wiki and he got that. Then find the Anomaly Jacket. Again the Game gave me no clues where to go or find this and I stumbled across it by accident when I noticed a body on my PDA. After these Nimble went back to repeating them.

The Wiki said there was another double-mail jacket in the Forest Mine but when I went there it was ordinary and I was stuck with the job for some time. Finally I told Nimble I didn't want to do it and he went back to the Anomaly jacket and Viper jobs. What the fuck? Asking for items that only exist once. I accepted each of them and then told him I didn't want to do them and received a failure.

These two failures led to two new jobs. Find the IL-86 ( again I had to use the Wiki to locate because I don't know the Game, have not ever seen these missions before and I get no Game prompts on my PDA like the Wiki suggests I might ) I gave him the IL-86 and now have to find a unique Merc Suit. The Wiki says it's in Dead City which is very far from my Game Play progress. Another location might be in the Dark Valley where I need to go next. I don't understand the scripting on these jobs. Are they bugged? Why would the first 3 repeat? Is accepting and then refusing, resulting in failure, the only way to progress to the newer sets?

Where X18 falls into the Storyline

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Byte Me~

Thanks. That's exactly the kind of stuff I need to know and look forward to getting. More speed and being able to jump higher is right up my alley.

I've had a job from Seriy for over a month about finding Crow meat. I did see some Crows in Construction weeks ago but no luck shooting at them. Since that time I don't see any birds in any levels. I've read about people finding them after a Blowout or Psi Storm but no such luck for me. I finally decided to tell him I didn't want the mission and he immediately offered a job for a Zombie hand. I went over to the Vehicle Junkyard where the Zombies hang out but there were none there since I had recently killed them all.

After giving Petrenko all the documents from the Forest level, he asked me to find some document described as from outside the X-18 entrance. I recently read on Lost Alpha Facebook that this mission was not actually at the Monolith Base X-18 entrance but at the abandoned underground lab where the Bandit Jacket is. I thought great. I'll go do that real quick and give it to Petrenko.

I entered the Dark Valley from the Vehicle Junkyard level changer and hugged the fence to the north meeting some Cats & Pseudodogs. As I crossed the road by the sentry building ( level changer to southern Forest ) I killed two Izlom and one ran away. I spotted Boars and Flesh in the distance eastward and started to go to the houses nearby but I spotted a Bloodsucker and decided to steer clear and go south.

I thought I saw a Boar under a tree and got up right to it's face from the side and blasted it right as I realized it was a resting Chimera. First one I've killed in the Game. I continued south until I found a sand pit and then saw a Loner I didn't expect to find. We continued east and came to a Loner Camp by a Trailer. They were fighting Poltergeists and other mutants.

I went down in the abandoned lab entrance and found several dead Bandits. I looted all of them except the one with the jacket. Since there were so many looted weapons and other supplies, I had to leave again and sell them to the 4 Loners above. I went back and found the document and then took the Bandit Jacket but did not put it on. This activated the Blooduscker that I blasted a couple of times but it ran off. I found a lot of random supplies like ammo and bandages and finally decided to leave.

Above ground the Loners were scattered. One had been killed by the Bloodsucker that ran out of the underground and another was wounded. One Loner was down in the Anomaly pit where I recovered a lesser value artifact. Having the document and the Bandit Jacket, I decided to return exactly the same way I had traveled. On the way out I encountered another cat and Pseudodog and a Boar along the fence.

Arriving back in Garbage it was full of new Zombies. I killed a single one, got the hand for Seriy and left the others behind as I quickly went to get my reward from him. His next job was for an Izlom hand. What luck I had just killed some and had a single arm for him. He gave two more jobs but my next goal was to go north to Petrenko.

Petrenko got his document, gave me another Battery and now has asked me to go to Yantar. I was surprised as I figured X-18 was next. My question is, when people do the Bandit Base/Monolith Base scenario before Darkscape, do they do X-18 or is it locked for a later trip?

This Game sure does like the Player to backtrack and go places you may have been before but for different reasons. I'm undecided if I should do Yantar or Dark Valley next. I'm thinking about turning down my active mission from Nimble to get the double mail jacket since I did not find it in the Forest Mine but just simply an ordinary Bandit jacket. Maybe he'll offer next the job in Yantar or does that come after I get Borov's revolver? Any advice or tips would be helpful. Thanks.

I don't know if it's "new" for 1.4007, but when I completed the 'Duty fork' in the Mines I came out of there with the second disc and VORONIN gave me the 5271 door combo for X18...

Well of course, I'd done all business there at least a week prior by a bit of forward planning.

I guess the intention was to have me travel back there and drill my way through the Mono Base for old times sake. Sometimes I think it's the "DLC gameplay" messing with things...

X18 is NEVER locked provided you know the code. You can actually complete it in a BJ if you avoid most of the cutscenes (you can't avoid ONE bloodsucker and a couple of puny Snorks) You SHOULD avoid the Pseudogiant and the Burer spawn that accompanies it. Basically it's a cakewalk. If your cover isn't blown, just walk into Mono Base in a BJ and run from any Mils. The Monos should be "hostile-neutral" and not attack.

For future reference, your route to the Sandpit gave me a laugh. It's about the hardest route you could pick! Fully infested with all sorts of crap. Next time try going around the other side of Bandit Base, it's much less hassle.

I recall that you sold the Double Mail Jacket. That shouldn't be possible and seems to be a bug. I checked using "FindObj" in the console and there's NO OTHER instance on the board. Your only option would be to do a small cheat and spawn it into your inventory ("SpawnObj" with 'outfit_bandit_m1' or m2 should give you a result. Quite an unacceptable bug that should not exist.

Nimble isn't bugged in a first playthrough. BUT he does issue that DblMailJkt mission again (and it still isn't on the board)

Double Mail Jacket workaround

Yeah, the work around WILL work and I have updated the wiki accordingly

https://lost-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Find_mail_jacket

That's your solution TS. It's a bit tacky, but you shouldn't have been able to sell it. You couldn't in 1.4002-5.

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

While I did find, use and upgrade the double-mail Bandit jacket, I had simply stored it when I switched to another armor. Later when it become the object of a Nimble job, I still had it to give to him. I only mentioned earlier there didn't seem to be anything preventing me from selling it.

There seems to be two type of quest items ( my favorite term I coined back when Clear Sky came out ) for when another NPC asked for a unique object. In Lost Alpha, there is a new-to-me demarcation of, I believe a yellow exclamation point and some other symbol to let the Player know the item is unique and needed. I believe these can't be upgraded. The other type, is unmarked and can be upgraded and appears to fall into the category of the Nimble jobs. They look like ordinary items but usually have a unique name and the common green upgrade wrench symbol. These appear to be able to be sold freely.

I'm certainly undecided on how I feel about all this. While there should be some protection to prevent the Player from selling these, otherwise the potential job could disappear unknown to the Player, I feel that if the Player wants to keep and use these they should be able to. That mainly applies to weapons and armors. Likewise if it's some cool gun or armor, it would be nice to be able to continue to upgrade these partially upgraded ( sometimes ) items.

Certainly the complexity of these items deserve accurate attention and up-to-date per LA or LADC version on the LA Wiki. While I understand LADC 1.4007 hasn't been out that long, from what I've seen there are huge changes between 1.4005 and 1.4007 that need to be documented.

Equally, there is an excellent case to be made that the "handbook" that comes with the game should have been just a little more comprehensive and a little less "cut" than previous iterations.

Instead, there are NO sections on even Anomalies or Artifacts and the Vehicles section looks like something out of v1.3003. But there's plenty of self congratulatory back patting and shout outs.

As for the wiki; I suppose that will gradually update, and here comes the muliti-level rub:

That depends entirely upon player input and for that to have relevance you need ---- players (surprise)

What I'm not seeing is very much traffic at the wiki. The 'bump' in interest after the initial flurry that accompanies ANY LA release was about a quarter of what was generated by the last one (1.4005) and similar to an oil well in that the metrics now seem well into "depletion"..

Similarly, the amount of traffic HERE about things LA is a trickle compared to previous interest. AND

I keep a "weather eye" on the ModDB traffic and comment sections:

The commenting there is mighty thin (that's the polite description) and SO FAR since 22122018 there have been about 20000 file downloads and if you're really generous about 1000 "addon" downloads.

People there asking for help are studiously ignored.

What would the observations above suggest?

Lost Alpha Director's Cut 1.4007: Tejas Stalker Diary

Well, the Lost Alpha Facebook community is very active. People daily posting about stuff and many others offering assistance or commenting on similar experiences or problems. I can't really provide much comparison input since I've been out of the Lost Alpha loop and have spent the last couple of years playing Call of Chernobyl almost daily.

I did post stuff here at GSC about CoC but likewise it has trickled off to nothing and the ModDB CoC page is the place to go for any activity. That's where the remaining Team Epic people hang out. They've had a tendency to burn out and disband after each major cycle like 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4, with 1.5 still in beta for quite some time. I'm going to assume that for Dez0wave, the 1.4007 might be the last big version.

As far as the Wiki goes, it's people like you that keep that alive. All I can do on my part is continue to share something here at GSC like I've been doing for the past 12 years and hope somebody gets something out of it and if need be, uses my feedback for any Wiki updates.

Overall I'm very pleased with the LADC and it has enough action and good but not great AI to keep things going. I guess I really haven't been in any major firefights except for Bandits and they never were the most combat efficient of the various Factions. The first real test awaits me at the Monolith headquarters in the Dark Valley.

Overall, I like this version too. Far more than the 1.4005 predecessor.

We live in hope.

Nimble's Missions / Jobs

There seems to be a bug in 1.4007:

As was well documented on the wiki, a little mauve briefcase is supposed to appear at the various target locations.

It appeared for all releases between 1.4002 to 1.4006.

Suddenly it doesn't. Fortunately we logged the locations and they appear to be the same.

When you say mauve briefcase, I'm going to assume you mean on the PDA Map to guide the Player. That would definitely be helpful. I can't imagine trying to find any item cold turkey unless Nimble would decide to say more.

For example, the job to get the Groza being told the Major at the Agroprom Military Base had it was an easy enough clue that it should be in the main building. Likewise the current one to get Borov's revolver is a no brainer. However I needed Wiki help to get the IL-86 in Rostok Factory, the Viper ( I've noticed how sometimes it's called the MP5 in the Wiki or vice versa ) under the bus in the Cordon.

The other problem is I was totally unaware Nimble gave jobs because when he arrived back at the Rookie Village he just wanted to sleep and deterred my efforts to talk to him. As mentioned, only when I read on LA FB about his various jobs did I realize he gave some and went back being pushy until he changed his behavior. This was well after I had gotten, upgraded and used the double-mail jacket. Speaking of jackets, I was unaware of the location of the Anomaly jacket in Garbage and only noticed the white dot of a body in the Anomaly when I was killing Zombies and went to search it discovering ( and dying multiple times ) that the needed and sought after jacket was on him.

I'm more upset at getting the double set of double-mail-jacket, viper and anomaly-jacket jobs after completing them and only discovering through trial and error that taking them again and then rejecting them for failure was the only way to advance me to the next level get-the-IL-86 and get-the-advanced-merc-jacket jobs.

The only reason I prompted all this activity is I was attempting to get Nimble to give me the job in Yantar for the special suit near the Brain. Again I only knew about that was due to LA FB activity where people were having trouble with the apparent double set of the same armor and how to get both of them. Since Petrenko was allowing me to go to Yantar to get documents, it seemed timely.

I'm trying to avoid what happened to me earlier in the Game. I knocked off the Agroprom Military Base and made it to Strelok's Lair and found the novel. Then after going back to the Rookie Village I got Nimble's job for the Groza resulting in a second trip. Only when I noticed my PDA wouldn't clear on the Agroprom documents did I realize I needed to make a third trip to find the seven documents. Again the Wiki was helpful on each location. As I said I don't have the time as I did when I was younger to explore every nook and cranny and spend endless time in some levels.

It seems that you have to be a Player like you, playing every version to know better on what took place before to recognize any changes. Even if the Wiki isn't as accurate with all this, it's more helpful than anything else so I'm not trying to be negative towards it. Only to point out that the changes between 1.4005 and 1.4007 seem to be major. One can only assume that the changes to removing the mauve briefcases was an attempt to make it less easy. However not enough follow through thought was given with what to replace with ( if anything ) to help the Player. Only Dez0wave could answer that one.

Mauve Briefcases are the least of it...

It seems that Dez0wave take the McClaren F1 approach to technical problems.

Change everything at once. See if something sticks.

Location markers used to work just fine - until they didn't. Same with the "marker circles" in pearl for the bigger Nimble jobs, but they still work.

The repetitiveness of jobs is just a drag, especially if there's NO solution.

Has anyone thrown a grenade at you yet? (Another bug?)
