So I just finished the "weapon of the Dutyer" mission for Brome and am trying to pull off the trick to swap a NATO rifle for the Storming Obokan I gave him. Problem is, he has to equip it and have it slung over his shoulder for it to work but he refuses to switch out his old weapon. It's been 2 in-game days and I've been in all sorts of different areas other than the Bar but it still hasn't appeared on his back. How long does it take for him to equip it? Does this trick just not work anymore? I'm running patch 1.0006 and the only mod I am using is Autumn Aurora 2.05.
What are the odds that I just did this less than an hour ago in 1.0005?
Try the IL 86. If you are having trouble with him displaying the AN-94
on his back, try making a manual save right in front of him and then go
reload it. NPCs usually pull out their weapons and reload them when a
new save is restarted. This works in 1.0004 & 1.0005 in my experience. http://i.imgur.com/5RQVpAu.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XK9iv3c.jpg
Inventory on an NPC is a funny thing. What someone has on them alive
doesn't mean you'll get it dead. That's why someone playing the guitar
alive and then killed never gets you their guitar when looting. The best
way to describe this is a live/dead person's inventory will only show you
what they want to sell or give up. That's why you don't see Brome's
Storming Obokan. Another way to see this in action is to sell any NPC a
high end and a low end artifact. Try to buy it back and you'll only see the
low end available. Likewise if killed, the dead body will only reveal the low
end artifact. Not that this makes sense, but it is what it is that you learn.
---QUOTATION--- Just killed him to check his inventory and it's not in his inventory anymore. Will this still work if that is the case or is it too late? ---END QUOTATION---
In vanilla only the slotted weapons are preserved. Then a fake set of inventory including artifacts is generated. In AA2 you would have to examine gamedata\scripts\death_manager.script to see what is done in the keep_item() function for existing items and the create_items() function for new items, along with the gamedata\config\misc\death_*.ltx settings (faction, rank, level, etc. affect what is allowed).
As Tejas Stalker notes you can't get high-end artifacts in vanilla.
I went back and noticed Brome was not displaying his gun like you said.
I tried the advice I gave to create a manual save and reloaded it however
that did not help to get Brome to show it even though I heard him reload
it. If you have a manual save right before you did this, I would suggest
doing it like I did. Have both the "Storming Obokan" and IL 86 on you.
Give him the one he wants and immediately after doing so drop the
IL 86 on him to get back the unique weapon. This worked for me and
does not give him time to make it go invisible after leaving the scene.
Making frequent manual saves solves 98% of all game related problems.
FYI: Hunter dropped the Family Rifle ( not visible ) like a hot potato when
I dropped a TRs-301 near him. The Stalker closest to Brome had a AK-74
that he gladly dropped and took the AN-94 I was attempting to give to Brome. http://i.imgur.com/XpkWHuO.jpg
I did some experimenting and found it's not necessary for Brome to
be exposing the weapon you want to switch with. I got him to drop
his IL-85 for an SGI 5k quite easy. I think your problem may be in
the angle you are facing him. If you face him directly the weapon
you drop may fall behind you. Try standing next to him with your
right side touching him. Then try dropping the weapon from your
inventory that you want him to switch to. This should work for
you as it does for me on several people in the Bar I did with. http://i.imgur.com/2MkE166.jpg http://i.imgur.com/IzBsJ6k.jpg
