fyi it is very possible to drive from Great Metal Factory (Bar) > Construction Site > Yantar or Agroprom
The trick is to drive carefully through one of the buildings in Great Metal Factory to exit south |

Its tight but you can do it in a small car.
It is also possible to drive from Agroprom to Bar Rostok/Great Metal Factory through Garbage, though it does involve quite a bit of off road work and crossing the stream in Garbage going around the tree obstruction on the bridge. |

DV has 3 jerry cans just to the left of the Monolith base middle entrance. Garbage and Bar have non that I have seen though the Traders will reportedly sell them more frequently once the next patch (dear god its taking time) is released. Fuel barrels do nothing for vehicles as far as I can see only jerry cans.

The area of road where the Red line is ? You can travel that area, just not on the road. You have to climb a few hills and avoid some trees on the 'left side' of the road. I've had to do it a few times. It's not easy but it is possible.

Made an update to the Yantar and Dead City maps
during my original testing I didn't think I could get from yantar to dead city transition because of the pipeline and trenches in yantar but I found out that thier is a bridge behind the bunker fence to drive over, so I was able to make it just fine. This will cut down on fuel usage on the later maps, I thought army warehouse was the only way I could get a vehicle to the northern maps but this solves that
Again I used the 4 door white sedan with yellow top, its my vehicle of choice cause its great offroad and doesn't have the issues that other vehicles had (like the bumper/wheel falling off the jeep which kills refuel, trunk, repair, and hatch falling off the niva which kills refuel, trunk, repair, also both are underpowered at climbing hills)

Hey Nite,
I haven't read this thread yet as I need to find a vehicle. I've been in freeplay for awhile now and have been collecting fuel and storing it at my fuel depot in Pripyat...see pic. I've found four different types of fuel containers...are they all usable with vehicles?

When I got my first vehicle at Dark Valley it got shot up by the heli, along with many others. I eventually found a jeep and was actually able to drive it from Sid's bunker, through Dark-Scape (staying off-road), Dark Valley and eventually parked it outside Bar-Stock. Later I found a car entering Dark-Scape and drove it to the hideout in the S.E., but while taking small arms fire I got out of the vehichle and took cover behind it, but the small arms fire destroyed the vehicle.
I've been looking for another vehicle, and it's still possible the tractor in Countryside is still there, but are there any more vehicles to find? It would be fun to drive around for awhile while we all wait for the patch.

I believe there's one off the left side of the road at either the western level changer of countryside, or the map that the eastern countryside level changer takes you to. I do know that on my system, using that vehicle crashed me.

There is a usable car at each end of Countryside. Unfortunately for me I used one when arriving at Countryside and got rescued. That car simply will not move though it has lots of gasoline. The other I drove to a spot off the road and for some reason it also will not move though it also has lots of gasoline.

Only the small square brownish/green cans will work on vehicles as far as I know, I don't think the others will? I havn't tried it. The red ones are meant for killing enemys near them due to exploding them with gun fire. The white round hazzard symbol ones I think are mission specific, not sure what they go to.

I'm kind of surprised nobody made a mod which allows using the two red barrel types for refueling.
It's only like 15 Minutes of work at most in the bind_car.script file for a moderately skilled developer/ modder . Did that for my game without having done much lua scripting beforehand.
First the "can_refuel" variable needs to be extended (there are two callbacks where this is used), so it get's set to true when you have "explosive_barrel" or "explosive_barrel_low" - currently it only checks for "explosive_mobiltank" which is the jerrycan.
Last thing is adding an if/ elseif ... clause to the function "refuel_vehicle" because currently it assumes you always have an explosive_mobiltank and it only removes that. The Swamps => Pripyat Outskirts transition is possible, although it requires LOTS of patience: drive as fast as possible in the water, and hope to reach enough speed and momentum to climb the swamp shore. attacking this climb with a side angle makes it easier. |

I tried the solution you describe when I received the task to move to Pripyat Outskirts. I encountered a problem: I paid the Monolith dude, and I began driving around to the Outskirts exit. I was driving my white NIVA, which appeared to be unable to climb the road at a precise point: the curve east of the Monolith base. It is to steep for such a car.
The Moskvich can handle it, but at that point of my playthrough, I was using a NIVA as my mobile stash. I had to go backwards and try the Swamps => Pripyat Outskirts solution that finally worked, after lots of tries and massive keyboard bashing.
As I'm using a Moskvich now, and as I don't drive around that much, I never tried the Swamp => Pripyat Outskirts with such a car; the result might be different. It should work too, logically: the NIVA failed at climbing the Radar curve, but it succeeded in the Swamps. So the Moskvich should be fine there too.
EDIT
Some other thing: it is possible to make Great Metal Factory => Yantar: drive through the train tracks (can be tough), and then head to the level changer: do a maneuver, to park the car along the grid, with the driver being as close to the grid as possible: you will then be invited to change level.
And once in Yantar, going to the left before the high walls, heading to the small house just south of it, will give you access to the main road that circles around the map.
So Great Metal Factory <==> Yantar can be done in both directions |

Yeah, I've restarted again to. So it's all academic at the moment. When you mention "...there are topics already for that", I'm sure there are but it would be nice if there was a central clearing house for that information. I don't read these forums religiously, and if I was to try to dig up that information I should get a doctorate in research. The search feature for this forum does not work for me. I use IE11 if that makes a difference.
Also, there has been a lot of discussion about how the Gamedata folder is no longer available for use with the new patch, but it sounds like it can be extracted using a db extraction tool. Maybe a sticky could be posted on how to extract db files, as it seems hit and miss.

You can drive from Bar to Yantar. Just need a UAZ to cross the train track, then park sideway against the gate and move a bit till you find the spot that triggers the level changer. From there you can also move to Dead City and back. |

Just a bump for this map thread. Thanks for doing the exploring. I was roaming about the garbage, looking for a way through with my jeep when I remembered this thread. I had been trying to go through the middle level changer to Dark Valley and kept flying through the air because of the anomalies on the DV side. Great fun, but got me nowhere! |

Yeah, thanks Nite, I've come back to this thread to get my bearings a number of times. Right now I'm working my way south to Rostock Factory thru Garbage.
