Original Weapons Renewal has been released for Lost Alpha.
It has fully animated bolt/knife/grenades/binoculars which you can add to the mod. |

Can anyone offer any advice on how i improve my experience, or even if it is worth doing now that i am (i think) well into the game?
Also to save looking through 223pages any chance the OP could be updated for other newcomers to this?

I'll give you an answer that will probably be supported by others. Or not, depending.
As it stands, Lost Alpha 1.3003 will play through to the ending(s) and most of the storyline crashes have been well resolved and now do not appear provided that the installation is made as directed and all of the paraphernalia sub programs are also installed before playing.
I came across an implementation of the S.L.A.M. pack when I played "Tourist's Delight" which is a mod of the LA (mod) and is a great deal of fun up to the point that it stops working properly.+
Now, I hope that TD gets developed further, but it looks to be a LOT of gruntwork above my payscale and I don't currently play it anymore.
The weapons look and behave more realistically for the most part (GP37 was a bit odd for sighting) and so what? If anything ain't working in the base LA installation - use something ELSE!!
The Zone is the Zone, and the LA Zone is as buggy as any other.
If you play, you run up against these limitations - and adapt.
I would love to run around with a Vintar retiring all and sundry with a headshot, but it isn't an option in LA.
I think some of the storyline subplots where you run across 7 levels back to the same place to win two bandages and a can of pop (or a main mission segment) sucked donkeyballs and need serious improvement or excision. But this just encouraged me to look for subversions - and.I.found.plenty.
That spiced things up. But only in the context of having played the game "according to Hoyle".
Bottom line:
Play the damn game without mods/addons FIRST.
Stop looking for shortcuts.
It's the ONLY way forward.
Exploiting 1.4007 DC as best as I can. I will NEVER, EVER use a "cheat pack" - a game lives or dies on its gameboard. Best of luck, stalker...

I really appreciate the effort with these addons. I use the Serious fixes addon, but had to delete the audio and textures addon (gamedata.dbx/y). These textures look oversaturated and gaudy, which unfortunately takes away from the STALKER atmosphere. The texture work in Autumn Aurora on the other hand is fantastic, although its desaturated and grim style wouldn't work with Lost Alpha. Wonder what the DC version of Lost Alpha will look like, with the HD texture packs...
The gameplay is unbalanced in some areas. Fighting soldiers with the same weapon I have takes a dozen hits to kill them from a distance, but they can hit and kill me almost immediately. This gets quickly annoying, and isn't very realistic. |
